Ideal location for exploring Bayeux and for driving out to surrounding sites. The property manager was very nice and helpful. The apartment has everything you need for a nice stay.
Very nice stay in Bayeux. Property is close to historic centre and a beautiful park. Ideal location for visiting Normandy WW2 history. Kids enjoyed the city Scavenger hunt. Beautiful rose garden.
Lovely property, perfect for a quick weekend with friends. Close to everything, with plenty of space.

A perfect property for our family of 6. The apartment had a well stocked kitchen thatvwe used for most all our meals. It is a 10 min walk to the train station and 5 min walk to a bakery, 10min to small grocety store and down town area with lots of shops and bakeries.
Nice apartment. Great location, walk to everything you need, and clean. Things to note: if you have any leg issues, the stairs are steep and there is only a rope used as a hand rail, could be unsafe for some people. Also I think this is a "French thing". There are few things like paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, napkins; you are asked to supply your own, also only 1 towel each for a 3 day stay. All in all we did enjoy our stay.
From the listing description and pictures we thought the property was up only 2 front steps. When we were finally able to get ahold of the manager to set up a check in time, THAT was when we were told there was 15 steps up to the bedrooms. We had one handicapped person in a wheelchair in our group and two adults with bad knees. The description was “bedrooms located on the first floor.” There weren’t ANY pictures where stairs were EVER shown. We NEVER found out about any stairs UNTIL we were on our way there. Then we cancelled with the manager with him telling us we’d get our cleaning fees and taxes back…only to find out the NEXT night from the manager that we had to cancel through Vrbo (the manager NEVER told us that in our communications the night before.) When we TRIED to cancel with Vrbo, they wouldn’t because our stay was already supposed to have started. When we contacted the Vrbo support line, they told us they had to wait until they had a response from the manager. We STILL haven’t heard ANYTHING from Vrbo. BEWARE of renting this space— it is TOTALLY misleading and the manager is impossible to work with!

We are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations, however your review is factually incorrect and requires clarification.
First, the listing description clearly states: “Le Monastère dispose de trois chambres situées à l’étage” (the property has three bedrooms located upstairs). At no point does the listing indicate that the accommodation is accessible for wheelchair users or persons with reduced mobility. The interior layout of the apartment, as well as the entrance of the residence itself, is not designed for PMR access and includes steps.
Regarding the stairs: the bedrooms are indeed located upstairs, which was communicated during our phone conversation. This information was not discovered “on the way,” but discussed when you contacted us to arrange check-in. Unfortunately, we were only informed of the presence of a wheelchair user and mobility issues on the day of arrival, several months after the reservation had been made.
It should also be noted that prior to this phone call, we did not receive any messages from you despite several attempts on our side. We had to call multiple times in order to obtain confirmation and discuss the check-in arrangements.
The written description clearly mentions that the bedrooms are upstairs, which is the reference information travelers are expected to rely on when booking.
As for the cancellation and refunds: during our conversation, you confirmed that you did not wish to keep the reservation. We explained that cancellations and refunds must be handled directly by VRBO, as hosts are not authorized to process them outside the platform. This includes the refund of cleaning fees and tourist tax, which are automatically refunded when the guest cancels according to platform rules. Once the stay had technically started, VRBO’s policies applied, and the process was entirely in their hands.
We regret the misunderstanding, but we strongly disagree with the statement that the listing is misleading or that we were “impossible to work with.” All information was provided transparently, and we acted in accordance with VRBO procedures and policies.
The location of the property suited our needs very well, but locating the property was difficult. Even neighbors didn't know where it was. I would suggest sharing a picture of the street view and entrance gate to help with location. Also, being from the USA, I didn't realize that "first floor" is actually upstairs. The stairs to the bedrooms were steep for carrying luggage. The kitchen was very well equipped and living room comfortable. While there are technically two bathrooms, one toilet is separate and located downstairs. Property was very clean and I would still stay here again.

Hello Sherry,
Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a review. We are very happy that you had a good stay here. As I explained to you, there were already pictures of the building from the outside. Unfortunately, we did not notify the neighborhood of your arrival. We are sorry to read that you misunderstood that there was a ground floor and an upstairs floor. Even if we propose our help any time that we can, you can transfer your remark to VRBO, which has done the english translation of the ad.

Honestly, we expected more than we received. The positive points include a great location, good parking, a unique historical building that been renovated and a safe area. However, the comfort and utility of the building were extremely disappointing. We used the two upstairs bedrooms that didn’t have the bunk beds. The stairs were narrow and steep without a functional handrail ( a rope was attached to the wall) making moving luggage and accessing the bedrooms a challenge. Our bedroom was poorly lit, making finding things or reading at night very difficult. Our shower/ sink room was micro sized with an enclosed shower so small that an averaged sized adult had difficulties picking soap and shampoo up from the shower floor. Privacy to the shower was provided by a hinged half cafe door that had a very tight closer that managed to hit me in the back every time I stepped up to enter. The room had a great window, but no fan to circulate the hot air. The property advertised a clothes washer that worked but had no clear instructions on use. We resorted to You Tube and after extensive searching, found instructions to fumble our way to wash clothes. The kitchen is sparsely equipped with useable utensils for cooking. The dishwasher did not work well and we had to hand wash some of the dishes. The living room was comfortable with a nice TV which also failed to have instructions on use. We are from the states, not fluent in French so we resorted to the property website which was inadequat.

Thank you for your comment.
First of all, we would like to assure you that we take your feedback on the accommodation very seriously. It has been rented for over 3 years and we have never had such a negative feedback.
We would like to inform you that the staircase banister is currently being replaced in order to better satisfy our guests. Regarding the bathroom you describe, it is a private bathroom adjoining a single bedroom, so privacy is total. You have a second, larger bathroom that is shared between the rooms. Your comments about the swing door are inappropriate, as you can see from the photos.
Concerning the various points relating to your lack of understanding of French to use a television, washing machine or dishwasher. Shouldn't you have contacted us during your stay so that we could have helped you?
We're constantly communicating with our travelers, so it's important to tell us all this directly rather than venting in a comment.
In future, make the choice to communicate, be positive and look at the photos.
Take care.
