The house is perched on a slope over a pond on 10 acres with a dirt road in the front and conservation land in the back. While it is quiet it is not entirely remote: our home is close to the center of the town of Worthington in the Berkshires, 30 min from Northampton, 2 hours from Boston and 3.5 from New York City. Nested in nature, the property abuts looping trails that will take you through the woods from green lush summer to multi color fall, to winter when snow covers the hills. You can actually ski out the back onto to what used to be cross country trails, most of which are still skiiable. This is a mountain wetland and the Fall season with the diversity of trees and strident colors is particularly spectacular.
The house is a comfortable, rustic farm house with all the necessary amenities (heating system, dishwasher, laundry washer/dryer, smart TV, broad band WIFI internet, etc.). At its center is a wide kitchen with cathedral ceiling and a wood stove. The long counter and a butcher block allow you to cook as a team. This is where we spend most of our time in the winter. The dining room with its elegant fireplace competes with the "panorama room" and its large bay window and a view on the pasture. There is an office space with a desk, and a "three season room" where you are invited to write your memoir. It is more of a one season room a summer room with a view on the pond and birds. Two rooms upstairs, two bathrooms downstairs make it easy for two couples to share the space, or for a small family to feel home.
You can access the whole house, its vegetable garden, its 10 acres of land, as well as the 70 acres of forest behind it. The barn is off limits. The pond is not deep enough to swim or sink in. You are welcome to help yourself in our vegetable gardens, but please stay away from the terraced garden for it's easy to slip and fall down the stone stairs. The pond freezes in winter and can be skateable if swept.
A dog lives here part time and while we clean very very thoroughly if you are extremely allergic to dogs this house is not for you.
While you are close to the center of Worthington, there is only one small store there, a post office, a library, two restaurants and one bar, a farm store and the historical archive. The Golf club is also at walkable distance.
We have a separate driveway which makes parking and turning around easy. We recommend renting a four or all wheel drive in the winter, from December to April, for the road may not be plowed every day.
Please note that we give priority to dog owners - because we love dogs, and in order to avoid competing with the wonderful Goldenrod Inn at the end of our street.
