The surrounding area is very quiet. I like to keep the outdoors sound down after 11:00 pm on weekends, earlier on the week nights.

Beautiful home and location. Loved that everything was available for us to use. Only complaint is that the Times Square puzzle was missing 12 pieces which made completing it very frustrating.
Wonderful house. Wonderful communication with host. The house is pretty isolated. It’s a bit of a drive to other things to do. I didn’t have a good sense of the geography so I didn’t realize how far everything is. Totally on me. The house is perfect.
We stayed here a couple of years ago and were excited to return. Not too far from north Hampton and enjoyed some nice hikes and time with family. Perfect spot for relaxing.
The house is beautiful and contains everything you need for a fun weekend with family (including young kids) and/or friends. Laura was always quick to respond to messages and was wonderful to work with overall. Great stay!
The property is incredible in its unique location and dwelling’s construction. The timber frame build is one that I for one had never witnessed in person. The space offered within its walls was perfect for our family of five. The serenity and peace offered by the surroundings was wonderful and just right for each of us. We gathered there to lay to rest my Mother’s remains to rest and we all had the quiet to reflect and grieve individually. Laura is a wonderful hostess and provided great communication from the reservation throughout our stay. The structure is fabulous and while projects remain in progress, it serves my family and me perfectly well for the seven nights we were privileged to spend there.
We spent the weekend between hectic college visits and it was the rest we needed. I felt my blood pressure fall as soon as we walked I. The house. It has just snowed and it was so quiet and beautiful. I heard an owl in the evening. WiFi was excellent. The kitchen was well stocked. The beds were super comfy. The beams of the house were so cool to look at. Laura responded quickly to our few messages. Would definitely stay again!
I really loved the property and the location. Beautiful, comfortable and peaceful. The home is clean and spacious. Lots of character and natural light throughout. Hope to visit again!
We've rented a lot of houses over the years; this is exactly what you look for in a rental house. Everything was at least as described verbally and visually (but in most cases, better). The house was very clean; comfortable and cozy, beds very comfortable; kitchen well-appointed with everything we needed. Excellent communication & attention to the kinds of details that make a difference. Thank you very much, Laura; our family had a fantastic time!
Very nice rural retreat. Perfect for those looking for a get away from it all location. Stunning A frame with awesome view of forested surroundings. Super quiet😊. Clean & cozy.
Such a cute house, the owner was lovely and easy to communicate with, check in and out was effortless, and property was beautiful. Loved every minute of our stay and was ideal for a family with dogs!
My wife, I and our dog have stayed here for several years in a row. We love the location, privacy and the house. Everything you need is provided for you and close to all locations.
This is the third time we have stayed here and it didn’t disappoint. This is the most well supplied and equipped house that we have rented. Laura is an absolute sweetheart. We will for sure be back!
We drove up just after New Year looking for the quiet winter holiday that can be hard to get with family, and this rental provided exactly what we were looking for! The building is a treasure and fun just to hang out in. Our group of old college friends took turns cooking meals and playing card and board games, plus walks down to the beaver dam and back. The toddler had a blast sledding down the little slope in the back yard. We hope to come back soon!
We loved our stay in Peru. It was a bit far away from our wedding without local ride shares but we still had a great time. Beautiful home and setting. It’s very peaceful and quiet.
Beautiful setting with a gorgeous house that was perfect for our family! We enjoyed exploring the local mountains and visiting our daughter at Smith College. The house was located in such a beautiful and serene setting. We can’t wait to stay here again!

About the host
Hosted by Laura Kolb
My husband and I built this house ten years ago. Much of the finishing materials and many of the fixtures were recycled from many NYC condo renovations since we are in the construction business. The house is a work in progress- this year we plan to work the grounds with blueberry bushes and more trails through the forest along the creek.
Why they chose this property
The best part about this location is the quiet peaceful location. It is near the country towns ('hilltowns') where there are many small farms and artisans. And it is in the Berkshires with all the cultural activities they have to offer. We find it is an oasis for our family compared to the city life we lead. Now that our daughters are grown, I find it was helpful for them to have known a different style of life our life Brooklyn.
What makes this property unique
My first idea about building this house was it would be similar to camping in comfort. The timber frame of the house was designed and built by a Swiss Company in British Columbia, Canada. The timbers are from douglas fir trees. At the time it was one of 3 built with the same design. The same company also built many Chalets in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
