The best part was absolutely the yard and trail access. We were there during a large snowstorm and being able to play in the snow and go for walks in it was so fun!
Really cozy house with a beautiful trail right in the backyard. The location is gorgeous and very close to the zoo. The neighbors are friendly, and communication with the owner was excellent—they were very accommodating with my special situation and always responded quickly. Overall, a great stay.
The host is great and super easy to communicate with. I've stayed in many homes in Big Bear and can say the check in process was easy. The place is as described. Of all our places booked in this area this one gave us more of an older cabin vibe and the location was beautiful and so peaceful. Our favorite part was the access to the trails behind the home. Our dog had so much fun playing back there in the snow. The yard itself is fenced which is a plus for the pups. We only stayed one night so didn't use kitchen but it has your basic appliances needed, all clean as well. The flooring downstairs was a bit creaky which made my dogs a bit nervous to walk around. Just wasn't something we're used to but otherwise it was nice stay

The place was great for our family and dog. Definitely recommend it.
This is a late review, but wanted to make sure we shared our experience. We had a great stay at the Rustic Mountain Retreat! It was dog friendly, with plenty of backyard space for the pups. Bed was comfortable and it was nice to have a balcony off the bedroom. Livingroom was cozy and the fireplace kept the place warm. I would say the major plus of this VRBO is the multiple hiking trails that you can access from the backyard and the direct access to nature. Love it!. We will be back!
We only stayed one night but everything was clean and neat and we had a really nice time. If you wanna go somewhere to eat, you would need to drive but it’s a nice neighborhood to go for a walk in. We met a neighbor and she was very nice
Cute little cabin with great location! Everything is exactly as described - we stayed here for a week and felt very cozy and comfortable. Trail runs right behind the house, so you can just step out and step into nature. Moonridge coffee company and zoo are both a short walk away. Village is about 8min drive. Perfect little hidden gem in big bear lake!
Absolutely loved this place. When we walked in my son said “it smells so good” this was one of the best cabins we have rented in years. Quiet neighborhood, very clean, our dog loved the fenced backyard. 3 separate patios that I had my coffee while listening to the trees. Will stay here again. Thank you to the host
The property was fantastic and felt like a home away from home. Exactly as described and very homy and comfy. The fenced-in backyard is wonderful too as we were able to let our dogs out off leash to explore and do their business. The property owner was very friendly and responsive. We are already looking at our calendars to figure out when we can go back. We plan to come back at least annually and make it a family tradition.
Good spot to stay with dog, backed up to forest. Nice hiking trails.

First off the house does not even feel safe as there’s chords running everywhere for any and every light you wish to turn on. I don’t know why the electrical is exposed like that. The smoke alarm in the upstairs bedroom has been removed. The bed count is designed to accommodate a maximum of six people. Two queen beds and two twin beds yet the furniture in the living room seats four people. The one recliner is all torn up with stuffing hanging out of the arms. The backyard swingset is not even functioning. The backyard photos do not look anything like the current state of that yard. There are literally no swings on the swingset just deteriorating rope hanging down and plastic chairs tipped over underneath the swingset laying and standing water.Going back to the not feeling safe aspect, when we checked in and scoped the Home out my husband asked if we should go get a hotel instead. We actually would have opted for that, but we had our dog with us.When we first pulled up the snow that had been removed for the driveway path was so narrow that when you stepped out of the car, you’re standing in snow. Nothing was shoveled for a safe entry into the home. My husband immediately slept, trying to carry luggage in and fell. We ended up shoveling the driveway ourselves for a safe entry and exit out of the car.Not an enjoyable stay at all.
Thank you for this awesome experience we really enjoyed the house and backyard, we love that the house is near the woods and that their is a trail, we saw lots of wild life including coyotes, squirrels, and birds of all sorts. Would recommend to everyone.
Such a perfect location for a great mountain biking weekend. The zoo was a short walk away, it was an easy ride to the mountain, and the cross country trails are right there out the back gate. The house was fun and comfortable for two couples and one kid. Our son LOVED the play structure in the back and could have spent his whole weekend on the swing! Thanks for a great stay.
Took the two kids to the snow for the first time and this location did not disappoint. It was everything we expected. Close to local stores but backs up to open mountain area. The snow was amazing ! Will look to stay here again.
The cabin was really cute and the perfect size for my small group. Proximity to Bear Mountain was great too. Things I liked about the space was it’s charm and quirky details. Also the heater in the ceiling in the upstairs bathroom was a nice surprise. Some odd things were no light in the downstairs half bath. Making trips to that bathroom weirdly in the dark or having to have the door open to the kitchen for some light. The beds weren’t the most comfortable but that could also be me falling down the mountain all day and just being sore overall. I would stay again.
Cozy cabin in a great location. Stayed here 3 nights with a small group of friends and our dogs. Clean place with all essential supplies you need. Loved the fenced in yard and backyard with quick access to trail and sledding hill. Quiet street with little traffic. Short distance from parking lot shuttle service for ski resorts. Property owner very responsive and helpful. Only feedback to owner I would provide would be updating some lighting throughout the cabin so there’s less need to use extension cords. Pull out couch in living room very small and uncomfortable. Best to bring an air mattress if sleeping more than 6 people.
