Simple and not very modern but clean

The property was very clean, It is conveniently located. Parking is on the street which posed a bit of a challenge. Mrs. Olsen was very responsive.

Great neighborhood about 30m Lyft from downtown

Rose and her husband were extremely welcoming. They were there to greet us when we arrived and were very hospitable. It felt like we made friends in Chicago. The space was cozy and met all our needs. If you stay here, keep in mind it’s an older city home and it’s right next to a bustling bar. That means people and sounds. We enjoyed the music and still managed to sleep in late. Lots of stuff within walking distance. And was only about 20-35m drive downtown depending on traffic and what part. Lyft was about $30 to downtown River tours. We’d stay here again if we ever need a place in Chicago.

Sufficed

I debated writing this review, but want to give people the truth. Rose was very nice, but the stay was not. We had issues from the very beginning with some sort of glitch in the app with the directions bringing us to a different house like 6 blocks away. We had to call Vrbo because we thought it was a scam. After finally getting a hold of Rose, there were issues with the lockbox code and getting into the house. The backyard that was pictured was nicely set up and looked nice. But in person it was all torn up like it was under construction with trash and junk everywhere. Entering the landing/stairs there was trash and junk everywhere as well. The smell was horrible. Entering the porch to the actual unit the cleanliness was a little better, but even had a box with writing that said "mom's, don't throw away". It seemed like the house was left to the family after a parent's death. All the junk should've been completely cleaned out before renting it out if that was the case. Not even just based on the appearance, but it was also a tripping hazard. The unit itself looked like the pictures for the most part, but it smelled bad aside from the bleach in the bathroom. We even bought incense to burn along with a candle that was already there. There was no coffee or much of anything that was mentioned we could take advantage of as a perk. The blankets on the bed were just throw blankets (1 for each bed) which were tiny and then had sheets. Luckily it was only 1 person in each bed. There is a bar next door that plays music on speakers outside from morning to very late night. Being night owls we didn't mind it, but when we were trying to get our rest in the morning, they started playing it and woke us up. Location was decent, but that's about it. We tried making the most of it, but it ruined our trip. I actually would like a refund, but didn't even want to bother dealing with this experience after leaving that last day. Just wanted to forget all about it, but I keep getting these notifications to review it. I'm sorry Rose, but it was terrible.

Hi Alyssa and Guest, we see you stated you started at the wrong address: 1167 Gunderson... With having video cameras. It looks like you both made it in okay and a 2 night - short stay. This propetry has annual tenants on the main & bsmt floors... Hence they maybe moving items in and out on their own time plus no garage is on this property. Pls note, the comforters were stored under the beds to be used as needed- necessary. Also, many sized blankets were available as well in the unit. The coffee Keurig cups were in the drawer, directly under the Keurig machine. Plus, coffee was in a mason jars, bags and other Guests could have relocated it? We are still trying to understand your comment about "Mom's don't throw away"? Not sure what this is? Maybe mixed up with another location? For all new possible Guests: Pls look at our almost 200 reviews on Airbnb. We made Superhost status for many yrs! Sorry, you've both felt this way and did not know... and again just seen this review. We hope you both have a nice fall & winter season... Take care ;-)

Fantastic communication and accomodations

I stayed at this property due to a delay in the closing on my new house. The hosts were exceedingly accommodating, quick to reply, and I honestly can't say enough positive about my experience. Experience. This is the first VRBO that I have rented. And if I ever have the need again, I will go directly back to VRBO. I've moved across country so unfortunately I can't stay at their property again. But I would in a heartbeat.

Hi, I'm Rose, your host. I am happy to share my home with you. I do not live on-premise but am there at times. I am a recycler and try to be as energy-efficient as possible. We are under some construction, making improvements, and soon working on the old classic coach house, to revamp for short-term renters. I am an animal and nature enthusiast. We have many plants, trees, birds, and a greenhouse on-premise (please help yourself to the herbs, spices, and food it produces). We also adopted a feral cats that lives in our shed. The patio and zen garden were created for your enjoyment and sharing. You can use the tiki bar and cooler while enjoying the outdoor music permeating from FitzGerald's on comfortable outdoor furniture or around the fire pit in the zen garden. There are many restaurants and music venues nearby and within Chicago proper that I can direct you to as well (Including a few hidden gems). I try and provide comfortable environments for my guests, including comfy beds, quality furniture, cooking gear, and a variety of toiletries and amenities... Please feel welcome to enjoy, thanks ;-)
