My husband and I chose this property for its proximity to the river and centrality to parts of Montana we had yet to explore. Most important though was that it was remote! We enjoyed listening to the large wind chime gently play in the breeze at night and the bats that came out to feast on the bugs at the river. It's a great home away from home.
I live in MT but my sons came from Spokane and NY to visit and this was the perfect meeting spot.
3 bedrooms plus 2 recliners if needed. Very well stocked fridge and cupboards, plus an amazing view of river and mountains… this was a great VRBO! Thanks, Sue!

Glad it worked out for you and you were able to enjoy a fun holiday with your family. Thank you for coming and hope to see you again.
Fantastic home equipped with everything you could need. The location sits right along the bluff above the Flathead River with access down a flight of 40 stone steps so not easily accessible for everyone. Great views of river and mountains on the back patio.
Close to Buffalo Reserve and Hot Springs and Plains for groceries.
Sue, the owner, is great and easy to communicate with.

Wonderful vacation home!
We had a wonderful time in this well-equipped home right on the Flathead River. Our children enjoyed playing in the water, fishing, looking for crawdads and snails, and exploring the shore. We spent time at the Bison Range, the local hot springs, the Amish area, and just general exploring. This home was a perfect base for those activities. Beautiful big kitchen and living room area. Nice bedrooms and bathrooms. Very clean! We will be back for a longer stay next time
We had an amazing stay at the Perma Cabin. This is the Montana living I love; an abundance of big natural beauty, in a small friendly community. The home was wonderfully stocked and furnished. Our dogs loved the big fenced yard and our kids loved swimming in the river. Sue was very kind and attentive (we had a small issue with the fridge leaking water). To be fair and balanced, I will say that our family members, that stayed in the second bedroom (on the south side), were not fond of the trains at night (they like to sleep with the windows open and are light sleepers). Overall, an astonishing Montana experience.
We stated in Perma for a work trip, and Sue was very accommodating! She worked with us on our funky situation/schedule, and the property was amazing, right on the river. We had a great stay.
The house and property were perfect for our group. In the area for a wedding in neighboring plains where lodging was limited. Only 25 minutes from the venue and 1 hour from Missoula airport. The house is beautifully decorated and situated right in the mountains, with the river steps from the backdoor. Sue is beyond accommodating and couldn't have asked for a better host!
We loved our stay at The Perma Cabin! My husband, myself, and our 19 year old son drove here from Washington state and met our other son and his girlfriend here for 4 nights. They live in Great Falls where he is stationed in the Air Force. Perma was a great meeting point and this house met all of our requirements (on water, 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms).
We had the BEST time! I loved the layout of the house, having a master bathroom, and the comfortable living room. We enjoyed meals under the covered patio, watching hummingbirds and the river. We played games nightly, read, relaxed, and enjoyed being together. We fished, kayaked, and spent time on the river. We visited the Bison Range, which was fun too! Inexpensive and tons of Bison to see. We spent one day at Rainbow/Dog Lake (30 minutes away) and basically had the lake to ourselves and it was great for paddle boarding and kayaking. The river at the house was great, but a little fast moving - keep this in mind if you have young ones or people not experienced with river recreation.
We really appreciated this home being open to dogs (with approval and a fee). Our chocolate lab, named Kayak, LOVED our trip. From a pet owner standpoint I really appreciated the fenced yard. Our son and his girlfriend were so happy that we brought Kayak and they could spend time with her too.
A few tips for future renters...tribal use/fishing licenses can be bought online. We did this ahead of time and it was great arriving and having this handled. If you are at all picky about drinking water, plan to bring your own. Not sure if we are just used to city water, or what, but we ended up buying lots of bottled water due to taste preferences. I hate doing that but when it is in the 90s and you are outside lots keeping everyone hydrated is important. Regarding the trains, they did not bug us at all, but we also live by train tracks and don't mind hearing them pass by.
My husband and I have rented well over a dozen VRBO properties and this one was really well stocked! The access upon arrival was easy, with clear instructions, and the home was very clean. The Wifi worked fantastic which was appreciated too! The cell phone reception is basically non existent (but the owner left tips on where the best access was), so having WiFi was great.
Thanks for sharing your home with us! We would love to book it again sometime!
I needed a place to stay with my family while looking at homes in the area.
The Perma Cabin not only felt like home, it had everything needed for daily life with a family, and it had a lot of loving touches đź’•
The house was suitable for my family of 6, and the well fenced and gated yard made wearing out our dogs worry free, even with the highway and railroad tracks in the vicinity.
The river, the mountains, the snow, the train were all spectacular bonuses and beautiful. We are extremely grateful for our time there.
We took a break from sleeping in our large RV to spend a couple of nights here and fish the Clark’s Fork. The house is clean, organized, and in a lovely spot on the Flathead. We loved that we didn’t need to bring a thing. We also enjoyed the fire pit and stable stone steps down to the river front. The only possible drawback is the trains that come through in the night. The track is only about 200 yards from the house. Otherwise, a wonderful stay and highly recommend.
What a great way to get away from everything. We all have kids from 2-16. So it was very nice to just relax by the river. Or on the porch. No city noise. Very peaceful
My mom, two of her sisters, one cousin, and I traveled out to see another if my cousins for a mothers and daughters getaway. Grilled, dipped our toes in the river, and played Scrabble on the patio. Tana was great with information information ahead of time regarding COVID restrictions and a fire burning nearby prior to our arrival. Funny thing....we are all pretty short, and all of the counter tops, kitchen island, and the one bathroom sink practically required step stools so we could reach.
The perma cabin is an awesome place to stay! It feels super private when you are in the backyard making dinner on the bbq or hanging at the fire pit. It’s a short drive to the Clark fork where the trout fishing was really good. The Clark fork is also a great river for a leisurely float. I would highly recommend staying at this property.
Our stay was overall great. Photos do property no justice as it's truly beautiful inside, clean & decorated nicely. Property is right on river so your views are incredible. Layout is great, has all you need for kitchen use etc. Yard is fenced but expect to temporarily add chicken wire to gates for small pups. We brought our own then gently removed when we left. Purpose of our visit was specifically for family vacation/wedding anniversary which is 4th of July!! We hadn't been on any vacation for 5 years at all due to caring for my Dad who passed away last fall:( So this was huge deal for our family. After several back & forth conversations with Tana we decided to book! The VRBO listing says Fish, Swim, light fireworks etc just out back gate to river which was HUGE for us to be able to spend entire vacation not having to drive around & have our pups safely with us while we did those things. Unfortunately we went into town to get our Out of State Tribal Fishing & land use permits but were informed Tribal lands are closed to outsiders for the past month:( Meaning no fishing, hiking, swimming or any recreating on Tribaly owned lands. Tana only told us we needed permit for tribal land not that it was closed. Not saying she was malicious but it was definitely frustrating as it somewhat ruined our time forsure. I had researched permits from Home before we left but never saw posting that Tribal land closed. Especially upsetting for our 15yr old that was elated to have this access & be able to fish with his dad finally. Also frustrating for my disabled son because he was excited to swim & fish also. Anyhow if Tribal Lands open house is perfect for fishing off back. No beach just stairs to River but after chatting with locals sounds like waters are very high right now so maybe it goes down. Boat launch just across river by bridge would be easy to drop boat in and bring right to your steps. But again on Tribal Land. So we had to spend our entire time trying to find fishing spots for my son & I to fish on State Lands. Husband couldn't join us as it was to hot for pups, him, Disabled son & hard to relax while managing dogs in public areas hence reason we were elated about fence yard right on perfect river spot! Beautiful drives into Plains, Thompson Falls, Hot Springs & Lonepine. Local folks are super nice. I like off beaten path places to visit so I met some incredible people.
Overall I'm grateful for visit to Montana!
We enjoyed our stay! This property has beautiful views! Everything was clean and comfortable. Directions say turn at “Perma Way” but is actually “Perma Lane” and easy to miss. Suggestions would be wifi and TV update. Fantastic vrbo...we would stay again!
We stayed with family and friends for the 4th of July. It was a great location and not too far from town and the hot springs. I would recommend getting new bbq utensils & better bedding. Other wise the experience was great for being my first time in Montana. Would definitely come back!
