This jewel of a Puget Sound island, only a 20-minute ferry boat ride from West Seattle or a ten-minute ride from Tacoma, is a paradise getaway from the bustle of urban life. The house, comfortable but elegant, features a wide deck where you can relax and contemplate the breathtaking, panoramic view of the Quarter Master Harbor inlet crisscrossed by sailboats, kayakers, paddleboarders and rowers as well as powerboats of all sizes. The deck provides a magical location for sipping a glass of wine at sunset.

A luxurious hot tub, with a view of the inlet, resides on the patio off the main bedroom with privacy guaranteed by Secret Garden. Follow the 50 stairs down to the beach where the gazebo is the perfect place for a picnic, reading a book, sipping a glass of wine or seabird watching. Take the kayaks out into the Harbor as dusk settles on the water, and you may be surprised by a sea otter. The two-acre garden is filled with trees, bushes and plants that thrill the most ardent gardeners.

Identified a top Pacific Northwest summer vacation spot, Vashon Island offers fishing, biking, kayaking, horseback riding and hiking as wells as art galleries, bookstores, coffee shops, restaurants, free concerts and a movie house. Hunt for seashells on the beach walks or just sit back and enjoy the quiet, the solitude and the view of water and sunsets. A fast foot-ferry will deliver you to downtown Seattle. Vashon Island is a hidden secret that will draw you back year after year.

Please Note: Because of Covid-19, we stipulate one day between the departure of a guest and the arrival of the next guest to allow our housecleaner adequate time to safely clean the house. Unfortunately, the VRBO policy and algorithm allows guests to book their arrival for 4 p.m. on a day when the prior guest must depart by 12 Noon. Consequently, our new policy is that the new guest cannot arrive until 4 p.m. the day following a guest’s departure. We will communicate directly with you to explain our policy if needed and try to work out mutually agreeable arrival and departure dates and times.

Peaceful Quiet Family Escape

Wonderful family home tucked into a quiet and peaceful part of Maury Island. Beautiful sunsets from the deck, and we had fun venturing out in the kayaks from the beach. Close to everything to explore Vashon island, and a short ferry to visit down town Seattle. The home was fully stocked and comfortable. One can tell the home has a lot of family history and is a special place. Our hosts were very helpful. We would definitely visit again.

A slice of Heaven

We have stayed in this beautiful home multiple times throughout the years. We can hardly wait to get there and always hate to leave. Kayaking with the seals and Jelly fish blooms is so much fun. Walking on the beach collecting shells, BBQs on the deck....everything is so perfect.

My parents loved to garden. We lived in Yakima, Washington but as my Dad neared retirement, he and mom wanted a place where they could garden year round and where plenty of rain made growing easier. They bought 2 and 1/2 acres in 1976, built a lovely small house that looks out over the water and created magnificent gardens. We live in Denver but came to Vashon every summer for family reunions and vacations. I see my parents' love for gardens from every room in the house. My brother said that the new kitchen (2010) brought my parent's gardens indoors.

Why they chose this property

My parents are gone now but they have created a place that is unique in its beauty. We love sharing this magical place with renters who like to watch the sun setting from the deck at night, explore the beach, have morning coffee in the hot tub, roam the gardens and pick vases of roses or curl up in the living room with a fire and a good book on a rainy day. A gourmet kitchen fully stocked with utensils, appliances, spices and everything any cook could need was added in 2010.
