Second time to stay here. Enjoyed our stay and look forward to future stays. We were very comfortable and the weather was well below freezing. Great host!
Our family of 6 stayed for a weekend and the accommodations were comfortable and clean. The host of the property was easy to get ahold of and communicated with us quickly. We recommend this property.
We enjoyed our stay and the newly remodeled bathroom. Beds were comfortable, chickens woke us up, who needs an alarm? It was nice to be able to cook a few things in the kitchen because eating out on the road gets old. I do wish I could have found a hot water kettle though, we normally use one for the teapot and pour over coffee and sometimes to let a pot or pan soak before cleaning it. Pouring hot water out of a pan (no spout) isn't fun, so we just went out. It was clean, quite and comfortable, and we enjoyed to proximity to Helena. Sorry we missed any visits from the cat!

Disappointed
There was a lack of care & pride of the home: front screen door was falling apart; dusty on furniture; a used hand towel was left hanging in bathroom; a lot of clutter; 1 bed had the feet end higher than the head. It was clearly noted that the host had chickens; but a note should have been made that there was also a rooster who was vocal 3/4 of a day.
I expected better, for the cost.

Thanks for your review. Nothing about the screen door is “falling apart” however I will agree it needed adjustments to have it shut softer which I mentioned to you when you reached out about not being able to close it once you had put it the locked position to stay open. I even responded to you that adjusting it would be the first thing on my do to list because I also noticed it was not closing as gently as it should. Having it close softer is a simple turn of a knob on the mechanism and is not due to anything “broken” with the door. Your inability to close it after you had it propped open also had nothing to do with the doors quality, all you needed to do was open the door as far as it could extend to release the locking mechanism, which is a common feature of storm doors. There’s not much that can “fall apart” anyway it’s just a frame with a screen in it. The screen doesn’t even have a single tear.
I also will have to disagree about the beds not being level, the frames are very basic and don’t even have the ability to be adjusted to different heights. This comment was so bizarre to me that I went ahead and checked with an actual level to make sure I wasn’t missing something even though I’ve slept in every bed and they are nothing but normal level. There were no issues discovered here. I have had 100’s of guests and never once has this issue come up nor even a complaint on any aspect of the bed or bedding quality. They are all fairly new frames and mattresses.
A dirty hand towel is again something I will have to deem invalid. I personally did all the cleaning and laundry before your stay. I don’t use hand towels to clean the bathroom. I wash all the towels hanging up regardless if I think they’ve been used or not, they all get taken down and washed. Curious how a dark gray hand towel could even be visibly dirty.
In the description of this property it mentions the owner lives in the home. This is not an uncommon thing for vacation rental homes and was the original idea for this type of rental service. The only “clutter” that could be noted would be in personal drawers and closets, which should be expected of a home that is being lived in, it’s not a property used solely for rental purposes. Every counter and useable surface is clutter free. Nightstands have a lamp and a sound machine, kitchen has appliances, bathroom has a soap dispenser. I don’t agree the minimal amount of picture frames or books on non usable surfaces should be warranted as clutter. The photos listed in the property description match what you get.
I will agree the rooster should be posted in the description and the reason I haven’t added it is because he is a very young rooster who just began to crow and is not going to be around long. Most streets in this town have a resident rooster, you would be hearing one either way though I will agree he is quite loud right in the backyard. Each room has a fan, an a/c unit and a sound machine to give a few different options that actually do block out the crowing and chicken chatter in general which is why they’re provided. I can understand if those types of white noise are not a personal preference for some people and so given this feedback he will not be around for future guests. However, I cannot agree a rooster crowing during the day is worthy of a bad review.
As far as the cost I simply cannot charge less per night and have it be worth it for me to rent. This is a three bedroom home that can host 6 people. You can’t find a decent one bed hotel room for less per night. You also have to take into account VRBO makes money off these stays as well, I don’t profit the entire cost of your stay. $200 a night is beyond reasonable for an entire three bedroom home, I can’t lower the price for smaller groups. You chose to rent a 3 bedroom full size house for two people.
Given this was your first VRBO experience I went out of my way to provide extra phone numbers if I could not be reached so you would have plenty of resources to reach out to if needed. I also left you alternative ways to get inside the house if you had trouble with the main key code entry. I find it incredibly rude to leave a bad review for someone who has opened their home up to you and even accepted you in the first place as a guest with no reviews. I was very attentive and quick to respond to every question you asked, which was more than the average guest, and I was happy to do so to make your first VRBO stay easy and smooth. You weren’t even sure if bedding and towels were going to be provided in the first place after you booked and reached out about it and then you complain about these things not being good enough? I suggest you stick to vacation rentals that are not homes people actually live in or perhaps a hotel would suit you better.
Overall a two star review for your list of complaints and to say there was a lack of care and pride of someone’s very loved personal home is extremely disgusting and rude. Between two rental sites I have over fifty reviews rated at 4-5 stars and not a single one under until you. I would not recommend any host accept you as future guests.
We felt safe at the location. The owners personal items were at the house which was odd. We did our best not to use or distrube any personal items. House was nicely decorated. Very comfortable stay.
