We had a very relaxing week. The island is wonderful with just enough to do to keep you occupied. The house was very nice and you instantly feel at home. The communication was excellent and even when we mistakenly forgot a bag of trash they were very nice about it when we messaged them on our drive home. I would recommend to not forget your bug spray during the time of year we went (middle of September)
The house was clean and well cared for. However, we specifically rented this house based on the description that it was a "11 min walk" from the beach. We carpooled from out of town, only to find that the closest beach was a 30 min walk. We contacted the landlord/ hosts because we couldn't find a beach within 11 min of the house on the map, the temperatures were in the high 90s, and our group wanted to come and go from the beach instead of coordinating transportation. The landlord/ hosts wouldn't give me a direct answer, and kept skirting around the false advertising about the 11 min walking distance from the beach, by giving us driving times. It made us wonder "what else they are not being truthful about?"We could have rented another, cheaper, place that had a closer and more accurate walking distance to the beach. For that reason, we won't be staying there again, and will not be booking any more VRBOs without receiving the actual accurate address. We followed all the instructions for cleaning the house and were out of the house by 11 am. Our group was saying goodbye to the other half of the group in the driveway when the cleaners? Employees? arrived, and they were very rude to us.

Something came up and I had to cancel our stay. I canceled about 5hrs after I booked it on the same day. It was almost 2 months before we would have stayed. The website says 100% refund. I have not seen a refund and they emailed me to say they do not refund. Everything on the site says they do. They are crooks and I would not do business with them. They stole 1,300 from me for nothing.
As always the Cottage in the Pines was a pleasant stay on Dauphin Island. The five of us (including RouxBen, the Boston Terrier) had a wonderful, relaxing time while attending the bird banding. The house and furnishings are comfortable, the rules easy to follow and the stay pleasurable. We only wish we were told what day to put the garbage cans on the street for pick up. We hope the house is available again next year.
Highly recommend! We thoroughly enjoyed our week stay. Everyone was very nice, polite and friendly. Many things to do with family. The home was accommodating and we had no issues. Will definitely use them again in various locations. JJ
The house was spotless. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. They don’t have an icemaker— bring your ice. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of towels. Our dogs had plenty of room to go out both in the front yard and the back. My husband has mobility issues so the short walk from the car to the house was very good for him. We didn’t take pictures because the weather was foggy most of the time.
This is the second year we four adults stayed here for the week of bird banding on the island. We love the screened porch on the back where we can bird watch while playing card/dice/board games. It is quite a convenient spot to all the activities on the island yet in a quiet setting. We love this little house and all its amenities, it fits our trips perfectly. The host is attentive but never intrusive. Thank you for letting us stay here.
A lot of attention to the comfort of the guests. Beautifully decorated. I had a question and I was contacted quickly with the answer. I would recommend this place.
We were four adults come to the Island for bird watching and relaxation. Cottage in the Pines was perfect for us. The screened-in back porch was our favorite place to sit and watch the birds, especially Bluebirds. We enjoyed watching bird banding, a Market in Green Park and a plant sale. Always a good time on the Island. We hope to stay at Cottage in the Pines again.
We came for 2 nights. The house was cute and well laid out!! It hade new floors and furniture!! Great quiet neighborhood. I even had room to park my 26ft boat and truck still attached. Highly recommended!!

Thank you Matthew, so happy you enjoyed your stay!
We had a great time staying in this home on Dauphin Island. There was plenty of space and it was easy to find. We also appreciated the kitchen had everything needed to cook at the house so we wouldn't need to eat out for every meal. If you have a bike, it's very close to a path that will take you directly to any beach (although there is not an easy way to walk to the beach directly). We even got to enjoy the firepit in the back! I would highly recommend this house as a nice place to stay on the island.
Coffee maker didn’t work. When I informed Shane he first said housekeeping would bring one the next time she came. I insisted he send one, said he would but didn’t. Couldn’t connect to WIFI, contacted Shane, he said to try again despite my already having done that. So no WIFI. No complementary soap, shampoo, not even salt in the kitchen! Shane tried to charge me 169 for pet fee despite ad saying it was 50 for a small dog. My dog is 27 lbs. Home reeked of dog smell
