Lovely country farm house with beautiful surroundings. Plenty of room for a large family, a wonderful place to escape to and relax! Lots of farm animals that the kids and adults enjoyed interacting with!
The property is off the beaten path and was larger than I expected. Chickens, turkeys and a peacock all roam around the grounds...goats, cows, pigs and donkeys are there as well.
The property is 10+ minutes off of any main roads and has very nice views of the surrounding area. This was perfect for our family as it was a 25-30 minute drive to Blacksburg for the game. The property has games for kids to play. Beds were comfortable and rooms were spacious.
Our group of friends always looks forward to our trips together and this met every hope and expectation!
The road in seems like it can be a little tricky and some group members had some trouble with their GPS, but that's to be expected in the mountains, so you may need to allow extra time to arrive. Bringing printed maps of the area might be a good idea, but several carriers seemed just fine.
We have a couple group members who use canes or chairs, and the only concern was the path from where we parked into the house. The path is flagstone. It's about 25 ft or so to navigate, but the chickens were a bigger obstacle than any unevenness. Once into the house, there are no thresholds on the first floor. The bathrooms and even the showers are all reasonably accessible on the first floor.
The top bedroom can be a little tricky for some people, it's a spiral staircase into the loft upstairs. The home and all of the rooms were clean and bright and extra blankets and towels were easy to find. The host had kindly turned the heaters on before we had arrived and we were thankful for her consideration. The Wi-Fi connection was very strong throughout the house which made it fun to stream music or even videos.
The back patio is perfect for looking out over the valley, it's gorgeous to just sit and watch the chickens, turkeys and guinea hens run around in the yard.
The hosts were so gracious with their time and expertise, answering all of our questions about the animals. It's clear that they really love what they do and the home that we stayed in.
We would absolutely rent from them again without hesitation!
We were up for a VT game and the house had plenty of room for our large family to spread out. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. The farm was so fun - we loved all the animals running around and enjoyed the lovely view. The upstairs bathroom needs some updating but otherwise house was great.
We stayed at the Blue Horn with two other families, kids ages 3-14.. had a blast! It truly is a working farm and animals are roaming all around.. bring old shoes/ slip on boots or crocs... you will need them.
The house was stocked with everything you need. Lauren provided linens, extra toothbrushes, plenty of cleaning products, etc..
The house was cleaned thoroughly before we arrived, but it’s an older, well-loved home as advertised so be aware of that.
You will lose cell service when you turn at the Exxon, get the directions up and ready. WiFi works great so no issues once we arrived.
Lauren is very quick to respond to any questions. She has cozy touches to the home that make it very welcoming.
We gave it 5 stars for the experience!
The residence was beautiful and area was secluded and peaceful. The animals were a pleasant treat around the property.
The hostess was very responsive and available.
We really enjoyed our stay! Laura was quick to respond and greeted us upon arrival. The house was very spacious and perfect for graduation weekend with family. We LOVED all the animals running around and the added benefit of getting to feed them :)
Super straightforward location off 460 and close to Virginia Tech. But a hidden gem! Would definitely stay here again :)
This place worked well for our 10-person, 3-family, multigenerational gathering. Plenty of space, beds, everything neat & clean. People with allergies or sensitivities will appreciate the use of natural,
unscented cleaning products. The animals were a plus!
This place is beautiful. It has everything you need. The wifi was good. We used this as a home base to take teens on a college tour of VT and to go to a game. Easy access - its a short 30 minute drive.
Sunrises over the mountains, and visiting the animals were highlights at the property. We loved it and would definitely return.
Lauren was an amazing host. She was very quick in answering all of my questions. The land was beautiful and feeding the chickens was an added bonus. We had a lovely stay for a Virginia Tech football weekend.
As if that wasn’t enough, we had left some stuff in a closet and she shipped it promptly at no additional cost.
We would highly recommend a stay at this lovely piece of property with an even better host!
