We enjoyed our 3-night stay @ artistic comfort. It was a great place to relax after day-long hikes in the beautiful cascades. Terri was a wonderful host and easy to contact. Thank you
Terri's home is a lovely place. We felt we were in a retreat center. The sustainable practices are noble, and we learned some things about decreasing our footprint on earth. Terri brought fresh veggies and beautiful flowers to the house for us. The home has many seating areas for dining, hanging out, crafting, creating, and relaxing (the tub was fabulous). The expansive front porch was perfect for breakfast and dinner and the circle porch area made a great outdoor yoga studio. The house is close to many hikes and Diablo Lake which we enjoyed very much. A wonderful stay for all of us!
This place is a unique get-away, offering tranquility, comfort, and memories. We enjoyed the uniqueness this place offered, from the tub bath to the view from the upstairs deck, we enjoyed our stay. I had the large upstairs suite, and I slept like a baby. The kitchen is well-equiped, there are lots of games for entertainment, and the yard is large with lots of flowering plants. We just enjoyed everything. Terri is a gracious hostess, and had some fresh fruits and veggies in the fridge when we arrived. Thanks for everything, Terri!

wasn't what we were expecting. - other people on property, a little musty smelling, and some of the eco stuff was too much for our tastes.

Hmm, we are pretty clear about our eco practices and people being on the property if you read our listing. Let's meditate on whether practices that protect the planet are a matter of "tastes".
Four of us stayed here for a week while day-hiking in the North Cascades. We really appreciated the eco-friendly emphasis -- the ability to compost, recycle, and set aside food scraps for the chickens; the encouragements to conserve water and other resources; the fresh, homegrown produce; the synthetic-fragrance-free zone. Terri even permitted us to try charging our electric rental car overnight. While the electrical system ultimately proved unequal to the task, the experience was emblematic of Terri's warm efforts to be accommodating.
The house is full of character, and we found it nice and cozy when we had a fire going several chilly nights. Those with mobility challenges should be aware that the stairs to the top floor are quite steep. Distances to some of the North Cascades NP trailheads are long, but Rockport State Park and Sauk Mountain afforded some nice options nearer by. Overall, a lovely stay!
This VRBO was a great location that allowed us access to many of the hikes we wanted to do in the North Cascades park. The park itself is only about 15 minutes away and our favorite hike, Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm Trail, ended up being about 1 hour away.
The cabin itself is 3 stories and the second and third story are quite spacious, about the size of a condo each. We had everything we needed and the place was really clean.
The location is unique and our host, Terri, is a wonderful person. It is a large property with others living on the grounds tending to a large, natural garden. While staying there, Terri gave us a tour which included exploring natural berry bushes, munching on hand picked snow peas, and feeding the chickens. The kids really got into it by helping to hunt down and remove thistle, which is an invasive species. They also learned about sustainable farming practices along the way.
Make sure you read the property description and understand the requirements, as they are different from most stays. That being said, if you have an open mind and a willingness to experience something different, this could be a fun stay. As noted, Terri is a great host with a big heart, so I would definitely recommend this location.
Beautiful house very close the the North Cascades NP. This was like living in someones house, which contrasts so often the current bnb experience of a corporate run place with the absolute cheapest crap furnishings and a 1/4 roll of toilet paper for your week long stay! We (our litte one mostly) loved the chickens and ducks. Rental cat was not particularly friendly. Overall great place.
Now, I'll say the following gripe having been raised by hippies: per the if it's yellow, let it mellow sign by all the toilets, look, I paid 400(!) a night to stay here, I'll flush the toilet all I want. You can afford to have your septic serviced regularly at that rate.
Also, the downstairs smelled heavily of bacon when we arrived, and didn't really ever clear up. The house is chimney shaped with the kitchen at the bottom, so if you cook up a bunch of bacon, you'll smell the whole joint up promptly. The oven needs a vent fan above it, period.
A couple other items that could be better: The dishwasher it not screwed into the cabinets (the two tabs with holes in them on the top of it get two small wood screws drilled up into the underside of the cabinet). So, the thing tilts dramatically. Please fix. Also, I didn't notice, but laundry was not available for us to use. For this much per night, please let the guests use the laundry.

Thanks for your suggestions. We will label our kitchen vent fan more prominently. We do openly share and encourage the ecological practices that our community uses. Unfortunately we found we could not promise people that the sheets and towels we provide would be free of artificial fragrances and toxins if we let guests use the laundry. There are just too many products that people use that contaminate the wash.
Terri's large home was absolutely lovely in every way. The location made it perfect to explore North Cascades National Park for a few days of great hiking. It was a wonderful place to come home to at the end of the day. The steps to the upper bedroom floors (particularly the wonderful master suite on the third floor) were not an issue for us, but worthy of consideration if you have mobility issues. Terri lives on site and was a marvelous host. Absolutely, we would stay there again.
Beautiful and spacious home. We stayed here to be close to hikes in the Cascades. We enjoyed our stay very much. Laundry facilities are not available at the house, but there is a laundromat in town.
Thanks to Terri for an excellent stay. The house and property were gorgeous surrounded by forest and mountains. The house was spacious, very cozy and a perfect space to relax after a day exploring the Cascades. Terri was a great host showing us around the property and providing excellent recommendations on what to do in the area. Thanks!
It's hard to put into words how wonderful it was staying at Terri's property! The house was just fantastic, it's so full of character. Beds were comfortable and we slept so well, which was nice after spending all day hiking in the North Cascades National Park. We were fortunate to be greeted by Terri when we arrived and she gave us a tour of the magnificent garden. Raspberries were ripe and we enjoyed picking some!
I really appreciate Terri's commitment to toxic free/clean living. I do to a point, but she has inspired me to do even more!
I can't recommend staying here enough!
I hope we can return sometime in the future.
This property is in a beautiful location where it is hard to find lodging. The surrounding area of hikes in the Cascades is delightful. Terri is a wonderful host and the property is an inspiring work in progress towards sustainable living and cooperative living.
Great spot to stay for recreating or working on the Skagit River. Very friendly hosts, and beautiful property. Lots of homey amenities such as local produce, a well provisioned kitchen, and a wood burning stove.
Spacious and charming custom house in a quiet setting, with gardens and forests surrounding, Host was very gracious and accommodated all our needs provided fresh garden produce and herbs from their on location permaculture gardens. Close to North Cascades hiking and scenic beauty. Overall a very pleasant stay, highly recommend, would return.
The 12 acres of the site are both fascinating and stunning. The gardens, the critters, the magnificent trees, the creek, the views, the sound of the wind in the forest. Just being here transports you to a feeling of wellbeing and calm. The bathtub is superb, the kitchen is set up just right, the breezes at night feel great for sleeping. Close to North Cascades Nat Park for adventures. You feel welcomed in to a uniquely creative and lyrical place.

Such a delight having your family bless this land with your presence!
About the host
Hosted by Terri
I am so grateful to steward this beautiful property. After studying sustainable agriculture, herbal medicine and native ecosystems for years, I am finally able to put what I have learned into practice here. I stay in a remodeled bus behind the rental house and enjoy sharing my knowledge and passion for plants with others. If you are interested in a native plant walk or a tour of the permaculture farm here, I would be happy to arrange it with you.
Why they chose this property
This land hums with life. The gentle south facing slope, creek, and wooded hills hold lots of special little places. The house was designed by architect students and has been lovingly cared for and creatively enhanced over the years. It is very unique and beautiful.
What makes this property unique
We are so close to incredible natural treasures, yet able to enjoy all the comforts of home. There are hiking trails nearby including through Rockport State Park's old growth rain forest. Steep mountains, waterfalls, glaciers, blue rivers and sunny meadows beckon.
