Me and my friends really enjoyed staying here for spring break. Location was perfect and communication with the house owner was awesome. Would 100% stay again!!!
Zane didn’t enjoy his stay because he -and his teenaged friends trashed my house, we’re charged for the damage they did, refused to leave at checkout and we had to threaten them with law enforcement to make them leave so
We found repair the damage and get the home ready for the next guests.
After me cleaners arrived at 10am to
Clean for the 4pm arrival - his guests decided to go back to bed. It took us 90 minutes to get them out and they left 11 garbage bags full
Of trash.

MANY issues for first three days of our week long stay. Owner was receptive to getting issues resolved but we shouldn’t have had to be put in a position of not having access to what we paid for for even one day.

Guest lost her mind on us because we had an algae bloom in the pool after a tropical storm. Her husband told our professional pool guy he didn’t Know what he was doing. She called screaming at me. Literally screaming at me like I was a peasant saying the neighbors had taken over the pool. When I inquired I discovered it was 2 people and we share a pool with them.
We employ professional cleaners, professional pest control, professional pool management and a trash service in an effort to make each stay stress free. We can’t control tropical storms diluting our pool any more than we can control the way people treat us when they rent from us.
What we can can control is who we rent to again- Covid has made people act insane and we will never rent to this guest again.

This place could be fantastic
Aug 2021 Rental
I will start with the Pros which is the location and proximity to the beach, lagoon and all the local hot spots such as the Hangout. The pool was well maintained and clean!
Unfortunately the Cons outweigh the Pros. The Cons include the dangerous and numerous steps leading from the house at each duplex down to the pool area. The owner needs to put some money into redoing the deck areas and the stairs. The deck area was not level and did not feel sturdy and was missing railings. The steps were numerous, felt unsturdy cause they were not level, the wood was worn and needs replacing. Both the deck areas in the front and the back of the house looked like there were plenty of code violations and a potential lawsuit for the Owner if those stairs and decks don't get repaired.
The reason why we rented this place was because of the space so we rented both duplexes. The owner claims that the duplexes were just remodeled but we couldn't tell. On the right side of the duplex, the microwave didn't work properly and did not heat up food. On the left side of the duplex, there was a hole in the wall in the stairwell and numerous marks on the walls. On the left side of the duplex the dryer didn't work properly and took all day to dry anything. There were 16 people sharing both duplexes and not enough towels for everyone so we were constantly washing towels and with the dryer not working it took time out of our vacation having to dry the towels all day. These duplexes need new pots and pans because some of the pots were dirty and not properly cleaned., so I don't know where the $350 cleaning fee is going. The place smelled musty when we first arrived. Some of the beds were way too high off the floor and some of us literally had to jump onto the bed at night for bed, so beware if you are elderly or have a physical condition that prevents you from jumping onto the bed. The carpets in both duplexes looked dirty and dingy. The couches looked dingy and the dining table chairs were hard. There was not enough seating on the deck areas in both the front and back of the house and the "lounge chairs" in the pool area were wooden and hard so no one wanted to sit and "lounge" on them.
We could not enjoy the bottom area at night because there was no lighting in the area towards the back of the house where the grill and pool were. We tried all the light switches and even tried to put a bulb in an old worn socket but we still didn't hav

It’s astounding that the entire house was inspected by gulf shores building inspectors and none of your “dangerous and numerous steps” was a Cassie for concern. Nor was it for the guest who stayed jne
This home is beautiful. Owner kept a open one of communication even made sure my family had what we needed. Very spacious home with a beautiful view. I highly recommend renting this property

overall my experience renting this property was good , we enjoyed the space , especially the split children had their side and the adults had their side.
The location of this home is wonderful! We took full advantage of the pool and pier, with the weather being awesome. We were able to rent a pontoon for two days to park at the private pier and cruise up/down the lagoon! The home has a ton of space which was perfect for our large family, 11 people can spread out and have their own private space. The double doors that connect the two homes is very cool. Keep in mind the first floor bedrooms do not have their own TV, but that is not a big deal, just an fyi. We loved the fact that we could utilize both kitchens, laundry rooms, first floor bathrooms and family rooms. The guys watched football in one family room while the ladies cooked and chatted in the other. The lagoon views are amazing. The very close and easy walk to the beach is fantastic as well. Also, the walk down the bike path every morning was perfect to tire the pups out and also gave us all some exercise. Not far from eateries and all the wonderful things to enjoy in the Gulf Shores. Because of the pros of the location and size of home and etc., I only deducted one star because the house does need some work and is in need of a deep clean. The beds are very comfy but could use some new bedding and better pots and pans for cooking, if you are cooking as much as we did, as the ones there are not in great condition. Otherwise, the owner, Mr. Bill, struck me as very kind, enthusiastic and super communicative. He was so helpful and knowledgable of the area. He answered all of my questions and addressed my concerns very quickly. Makes all the difference! We had a great vacation.
The stay at West Lagoon was great for a large group of 19 girls.
What wasn't on the description was how great the area underneath the deck by the pool was for games and hanging out in a shaded or covered area during rain. They two sides of the house are also connected which was fantastic if having a large party.
Future guests should know
- The house is note equipped with basic needs such as toilet paper, dish soap, paper towels, trash bags, etc. So if you do plan to host a large group for more than a day, do add these items to your shopping list
- The pool is not enclosed by a fence or private -- so the next door neighbors do have access and can also see all that goes on underneath the house area, likewise with the dock area
- EASY walk to the beach! Access is straight across lagoon, which is not as busy as it looks if you were to google earth it.
This host is a great location with a pier on the lagoon and an easy walk to the beach. The beach area near the house is so much less crowded than the beaches just a little to the east. Owner was very responsive and easy to contact.
The owner seemed to understand that there were previously broken appliances all over the house (i.e. broken garbage disposal -> backed-up sink, washing machine, and dishwasher) and acted like he would fix them after our stay. However, another rental was scheduled directly after us and there was NO way they tried to fix these to make the next groups stay better. Also, there were holes/ streaks in the walls/ceilings and missing fire detectors. Finally, this property was advertised with a private pool, but we had to share it with neighbors. These problems were more annoying than anything else as we weren't expecting them, but the stay was good regardless.

Odd review 30 days after your stay.
We were made aware a dishwasher was malfunctioning and the washer and the clogged garbage disposal which was repaired immediately. We had spring breakers in before they arrived and they beat the house up pretty good but there were no holes anywhere in any walls.
They asked to wait until they left to make repairs which we did promptly as you can see from the guest who checked in the day they left who left us a 5star review.
“Sheila S Thu, Apr 28 – Sat, Apr 30, 2022 VRBO. 5/5. We enjoyed our stay. Very clean.”
Also- the house is advertised as sharing a pool and a pier. Perhaps they didn’t read the listing properly?
We just had the interior paint touched up from the spring breakers and we have 24/7 handymen who service everything from AC units and appliances to pool maintenance and trash can removal.
We don’t mind an honest review but we are being painted as lazy owners who ignore maintenance which is simply untrue. We are sorry for the disappointment but we would have gladly made the repairs during your stay had you asked us to. They were all quick simple fixes and you never indicated any issues when you all left. It seems odd we would have a guest arrive the day you checked out and receive a 5star from them if we don’t handle problems as they arise.
Perfect location, lots of room, pool/pier set up fantastic, quick walk to the beach! This is exactly what we had hoped for during our time away my child's 10u soccer tourney. 6 players, 1 coach and representatives of each player's family all stayed together...wonderful memories were made here that our kids will take with them! Mr Bill was a great host and very quick to respond to any communication. Would highly recommend!
Host was great , location was great & the property was amazing .

Location and rental lay out were very good. The home needs a deep clean and several items need to be repaired. There were items mentioned in an August review and yet they were not taken care of. The internet had difficulty keeping TV on. All items of concern have been sent to the owner.

No good deed goes unpunished!
I let Karl and his family check in early and Karl was kind enough to go through the home like he was a home inspector looking for issues.
He accused us of not addressing issues from August- completely baseless as we have 2 handymen and stay on top of maintenance issues (see the 5star review from the guests who left the day before before Karl Arrived).
Karl complained about the neighbors pier needing work (we don't own it so he was trespassing), the beds were too tall (yep-cant make this up), a microwave that didn't work (I personally checked it and it worked fine), a dryer that did not dry to his specifications, some nonsense about missing dining chairs (they are not missing- the table has 4 chairs), the legs not being assembled correctly on our tables and both garbage disposals not working properly. He never gave my maintenance people an opportunity to inspect, confirm or repair anything- he just decided to "fix" things that he didn't like.
He also complained about the home not having bar stools because he couldn't seat 20 people for thanksgiving dinner. Seriously- who has a table for 20?
We use a professional cleaning company who will come back and clean anything missed and we utilize 2 separate maintenance companies to address issues quickly. As an owner- folks complaining about things after they leave is irksome when they never alerted you during their stay.
Covid has made being a host a lot more challenging the past 12 months than ever before and Karl was no exception.
My family and some of our close friends had a great week in this house. There were 14 adults, 2 teens, and 2 infants, so we utilized both sides of the duplex. The kitchens were some of the better stocked out of all the rentals in which we have stayed, and it was nice to have two laundry rooms. With the duplex doors open, we had a large space where everyone could pull up a chair for games or visiting, but we could also shut them off when the babies needed some quiet time.
Two items I viewed slightly differently than the listing: beach accessibility was not great (had to walk several blocks and cross a busy road), and the house next door (and their 10 loud children) had access to our pool, which we thought was private for our unit. Otherwise, pretty much as described and the owner was very friendly. The small fence around the pool was nice, because we brought 2 dogs and it helped provide some containment for short times that they were outside.
