We welcome you to our mountain home getaway, “Moose Tracks”, in the high country of Colorado and just five minutes from the historic towns of Fairplay and Alma (Check us out on IG @moosetracksfairplayco). It is conveniently close to everything you need (groceries, restaurants/bars) but also feels far enough to be the getaway that your family or friends desire. In Fairplay, you can enjoy a historic walking tour, grab some local meats and bakery items, shop local mercantile, or schedule a horseback ride at nearby ranches. The beautiful resort town of Breckenridge is a short, ~30-minute drive away. Buena Vista can be reached in ~40 minutes, offering access to horseback riding, hot springs, the rapids of the upper Arkansas river. Historic Leadville is a 1.5 hour favorite day trip via car for a deeper look into another historic quaint town of Colorado.
Moose Tracks is located a half mile off-of Highway 9 on a county-maintained dirt road that is plowed in the winter. However, there can still be a lot of snow on the road and in our driveway, so during the winter AWD and snow tires are mandatory, you will get stuck. Having your own transportation is recommended as the town of Fairplay does NOT have access to Uber/Lyft.
The home sits in a quiet remote cul-de-sac, on a one-acre lot, with mature aspen trees and evergreens surrounding the home. The front deck overlooks the Mosquito Mountain Range, Mt. Sherman, Mt. Democrat, Mt. Bross, and Quandary Peak, all of which are popular 14er hikes. If you’re looking for a more leisurely hike, the Beaver Creek or Limber Grove Trails are close by. Additionally, Hoosier pass provides a mixture of remote backcountry options for the thrill seekers in your group or just a leisurely drive through sweeping views and curvy mountain roads. Those who enjoy fishing will be in paradise with nearby gold stream waters coined, “the dream stream”, while those looking for an overlanding/4x4 venture will find challenges abound from Mosquito Pass to Wheeler Lake to Breakneck Pass with gorgeous views and waterfalls. For a 30 min to drive to Breck, you can travel off-road via Boreas Pass. For rock climbers in your group, Eleven Mile Canyon and Mt. Royal are accessible within an hour, offering a selection of sport and trad. climbing options. And finally, the Arkansas Valley will appease anyone's eagerness for rafting and kayaking. Be sure to check those resources, trail maps, and driving conditions to grab your ticket to adventure. After a day of recreation and exploration, you can pull up a chair for the beautiful nightly sunsets from the deck or enjoy a glass of wine by the wood-burning fireplace.
Inside, you will be surrounded by modern amenities and restful charm. High-speed internet, Roku TV, WIFI, and DVD player allow you the revitalization you need after a full day of playing hard in the mountains. The wood burning fireplace is the focal point within the vast vaulted ceilings and exposed wooden beams. The open living room offers the perfect chance to gather for board games with your friends, or cozy up on the couch or recliner to watch a movie. The living area opens to a wrap-around deck where you will enjoy Colorado’s 300 days of sunshine birding, and fresh mountain air.
The open dining room sits perfectly next to the kitchen/living room which is bordered with a wall of windows looking out into the stunning mountain view and beautiful fluttering birds. Granite countertops accent the kitchen island where unforgettable home cooked meals are waiting to be fixed and whether sitting at the kitchen island or at the dining room table you can comfortably seat 6. This invites you and your loved ones to come and enjoy the well-deserved home cooked meal after a day on the slopes or miles on the trail.
If you’re in the mood for relaxation, cozy up with a morning cup of coffee and a book in the upstairs loft, which provide views and comfort for a relaxed morning or afternoon. Next to the loft, the master bedroom contains not one king size bed, a leather recliner and a small workspace with a computer monitor. Want to cozy up in bed for a movie? the monitor doubles as a monitor for the DVD or your laptop hookup. The large ensuite bathroom has a spacious walk-in shower with two shower heads.
On the main floor there are two guest rooms which contain queen-sized beds. These rooms have been decorated with their own themes, bringing modern mountain charm to the forefront of your stay. The guest bath on the main floor also features a full tub and shower.
Each window in the home offers wonderful views to visually soak in all the mountain wilderness has to offer. If you want to soak in more, head outside to the rock path leading you to benches and a hammock nestled in the trees to sway and enjoy your stay.

We absolutely loved the cabin. We were impressed with the quality of everything from the beds, to the linens, to the kitchen utensils. We had everything we needed. The view from the cabin was amazing and it was so peaceful and quiet. We usually visit this area every year. We love the people and places to visit around FairPlay and Alma. We hope to stay here again!
Lovely place to stay. Kitchen was well stocked and we ate most meals here. There was plenty of room to sleep all the adults (5), a small child and an infant. The view was wonderful too. AWD needed for the winter, but we were able to trade cars with a friend.
Great location, beautiful view from the deck and main part of the house. House was great but outdoor items (screens, outdoor furniture, grill) need some TLC.
Our family loved the cabin, especially the views from the deck. The check-in process was simple and the cabin was very clean. Would love to have blackout curtains upstairs to sleep in, but that’s a personal preference.
The elevation got to a few of us, so be prepared.
Property was great, very comfortable. Great view of mountains. Close enough to main road to quickly go places yet far enough way to have seclusion. Very comfortable beds! Thanks for great stay!
Wow! What to say…my husband and I loved every minute of our stay.
The views are spectacular….I am sure I took 50+ Pics of one sunset! The cabin is literally between two great towns where we enjoyed the local bars and eateries. It was perfect 😍 We will definitely request to stay again! Thank you for sharing your home!

Mandy was an excellent guest and we would love to have her come back and stay with us.
Very clean, communicative, and followed all the house rules. Outstanding 5 stars all around!
We took a mini family vacation in the mountains and stayed at Moose Tracks it was a great central point for many activities and to see different towns. Also the house was not too far off the beaten path but far enough for the kids to get to play outside in the wilderness and ride bikes. The house had great views and was very nice inside with a beautiful deck.
