The Kala Beach Cottage is an authentic Kekaha Sugar Plantation Managers Cottage. Lovingly restored with integrity by a professional interior designer, this cottage gives you the obvious sense of classic Hawaii living. Other amenities of this charming cottage include a private enclosed back yard and covered patio, giving the option for outdoor entertaining and/or sunbathing. Enjoy OCEAN VIEWS from the front lanai, and a brief 1 minute walk will take you to the ocean and stretches of sparkling white sand for 15 miles without a house. Here the reef comes onshore and provides protected pools for calm water and swimming. This is an ideal place for children to safely enjoy the water.
At the base, and within minutes of the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific', the WAIMEA CANYON offers sunny cool weather which is ideal for hiking the many miles of trails through varied native forests and canyon views. You can hike to the cliffs of the NA PALI COAST, often reaching 4000 feet, and see spectacular views of the jagged shoreline and deeply carved valleys where the first Hawaiians lived.
Another option is a 5 mile drive to POLIHALE BEACH STATE PARK, where wide stretches of sand for up to seven miles meet the Na Pali Coast. Here you will find a beach, framed with dunes of up to 100 feet and some of the most beautiful blue water you will see in Hawaii. At end of the beach, near the Na Pali cliffs, you will find showers, bathrooms, and pavilions. This is the place to escape and dry out in the sun on those days where clouds and rain obscure the sun, especially on the north and east shores in the Winter. This is an uncrowded treasure for beach and nature lovers.
This is the sunny westside of Kauai, where rain rarely occurs, and sunny mornings with cobalt blue skies are common. Why gamble your vacation by staying on the North Shore, where rain is constantly replenishing the lush green forests, and sunny days can be infrequent in the Winter months?
Why stay at the Waimea Plantation Cottages, where a 'garden view' cottage starts at $275 per night, when you can have the ultimate privacy of your own beach cottage within a few steps of white sand beaches that go on forever? This side of the island guarantees you an amazing end to each day, offering the opportunity to see a SIZZLING SUNSET over the Pacific Ocean. You may even see the 'green flash'! This is a sweet spot that is affordable when compared to other Kekaha options. Bring your sunscreen and an umbrella.... you will need it...... because the sun shines here!

This was a fabulous little cottage. The beds were comfy and it was nice to have AC in both bedrooms. The shower is one of the best in my lifetime. You could see the beach from the lovely front lanai. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip
Wonderful house with everything needed for a quiet base camp for Loved the hammock and mango and lime trees. The plumeria tree in the front yard was in bloom and we had fresh flowers every day!
Just what my family needed. A bit off the beaten path, an excellent home and yard with walking to quiet beach. Easy access to excellent hiking too. Great rental!
This was our first Vrbo experience, but definitely won’t be the last!! Kala Cottage was perfect in every way!! We had a wonderful stay. Everything we needed was right there for us!!
We really enjoyed our time at this nice little house. It was very thoughtfully stocked and nicely maintained - which can be hard when so close to the ocean. Like others have mentioned, it's on kind of a busy corner but certainly wouldn't stop me from staying here again!
We loved this place. Lots of nice personal touches that didn't make the house feel institutional at all. Beds were comfortable, great backyard, cozy. Felt at home here. Highly recommend.
I stayed here for a two week work trip. The house was in close proximity to the base which was really nice. The backyard was a little oasis with a hammock. The house was very comfortable.
Perfect place not touristy. Clean, well stocked including beach chairs and towels. Close to Waimea Canyon, Napoli coast boat tours Lihue airport, Polihale Beach. Awesome sunsets a block away! Perfect location and house!
Lovely little spot just one block off the beach in Kekaha. The town is quaint and quiet, and great for folks looking to disconnect and relax. The house has all of the amenities you’d want, comfortable living area and the beds were cozy. Would recommend staying here to anyone who wants to spend some time on Kauai’s west side.
House was very clean. Check in was easy. Inside was very nice. Ocean views from front porch and living room. Stocked with basics. Host communicated quickly. Checkout was a breeze. Overall great stay and would highly recommend.
The home itself was so cute and clean, with the little extras that make the stay special. The host was responsive and helpful when it came to questions about the home or recommendations near by. Close to Waimea canyon but far from most attractions that you think of when you think Kaua’i. If you don’t mind a little drive for restaurants etc this place is for you!
We loved this little house! It was the perfect sized beach house with a beautiful back yard, equipped with an hammock and an orange tree but we saw a few spiders so keep your eye out!the geckos were a fun addition and such a short walking distance to the ocean, that you can see from the front porch! I sat and had coffee listening to the waves every morning! Our host was very responsive and the lawn/garbage man was very nice! I would definitely stay here again!

Okay, nothing fancy
Our stay for 5 nights was ok, clean and tidy well equipped kitchen.Beds are squeaky and seemed slanted, the sprinkler system comes on about 8am and is super loud, the house is on a busy 4 way intersection so be prepared to hear loud vehicles stopping and going alot.Walking distance to small beach with no lifeguards.Stubbed toes several times on the threshholds between rooms be aware!Other than that air conditioner was working well. Not walking distance to any shop's.
Great place to stay on the “west” side of Kauai. Short walk to Kala Beach which is very relaxing with nice mid morning shade, fine sand and beautiful sunsets. The water was nice for wading and wave play but would definitely recommend only experienced swimmers venturing out. Kekaha Beach with a lifeguard is just down the road. The house is comfortable, nicely decorated and has everything you need for a stay. You will be the only tourists staying in the area as it is set in a local residential neighborhood. The locals we met were very friendly.

Thank you for the review of your stay. The ocean and beach are very changeable, so it is often calm, but during the winter months it can be prone to periods of swells coming down from the north.
The beach, about 1 mile west, is the best place to walk, swim, and generally enjoy one of the longest white sand beaches on the island.
We hope to see you again.

This property was amazing. There literally wasnt anything that wasnt supplied, everything worked perfect,it was decorated nice, was very clean upon check in and was an all around great place to stay. There wasn't a list a mile long of things to do before check out and everything was ready to go when we got there. The location being right across the street from the ocean was an added bonus! If you want to get away from a charmless, brand new construction condo or house and stay somewhere with some character and charm....this is the place!
House had everything we needed - 2 adults 9 yo 2.5 yo and 8 mo old.
It was nice to be in a neighborhood away from the main hustle and bustle, with access to Waimea just minutes away. Driving to other places around the island was simple and it was nice to come back to a cozy place.
The road noise and neighborhood noise was minimal - some chickens and dogs as to be expected and the occasional loud car but nothing like other "city" living I've done.
Communication with the hosts didnt need to be done while there, but every communication before our arrival was prompt and helpful.
I would definitely stay here again if given a chance.
Great location for adventures and away from resorts, this cottage was the perfect place. After hiking in Koke'e and Weimea Parks and getting pummeled by waves at local Kekaha Beach or stunning Polihale, kids would wash off in the warm outdoor showers (while mom was in the clawfoot tub). One block walk to the beach to watch sunsets, and a front porch with view of the ocean for bringing in and out the day. Backyard including orange tree that we fresh-squeezed into juice every morning. Beach chairs, umbrella, snorkle gear, body board, guide books, blender, toaster, ice maker, AC in bedrooms, etc... Just perfect simple neighborhood place.
Low key location in a small Hawaiian town in a real neighbourhood. Just a block from the ocean.
We’ve never stayed in a vacation rental that was so well appointed in terms of furnishings and kitchen needs, and well stocked bathroom cabinet with everything from Advil to Aloe Gel.
As someone who loves to cook and bake, I appreciated the quality of the pots and the quantity and choice of bakeware. Once we figured out the gas range, very impressed with its reliability!
Good reading selection ( “Aloha Rodeo”!), as well as cards, tennis racquets and balls, even 5 lb weights.
Quiet place from which to explore the beautiful island of Kauai.
