Danny's property is absolutely gorgeous, and he was a great host! My boyfriend and I, along with a few of our friends stayed here for a weekend of skiing at Jay Peak and it was the perfect spot to come back to after a day of skiing. Danny even helped dig us out of a snow bank when we were on our way back one of the days the weather was bad!We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
We had a great time during our stay. One of the best parts had to be the spontaneous visits from Rosie, the very friendly Golden Doodle. Would have loved to check out some hiking trails/ backcountry skiing but we had 4 young kids and the snow was rather deep! Very clean, had everything we needed “- including fresh local coffee beans that were a savior when we realized we didn’t back coffee. ! Host was friendly and helpful, made sure we were cleared of the never ending snow so we could enter and exit safely or leave the property if need be. Thanks for a great time!
The home is located less than 10 minutes down the road from Jay Peak, making it ideal for ski vacations. There are plenty of bed for a big group, though (as the pictures show) they are somewhat oddly located. The floors in some parts of the unit are heated, which is delightful! My kids kept laying on the floor to get warm. The hosts were welcoming and helpful throughout the visit. One notable complaint is that the stairs leading down to the unit were pretty treacherous in the snow. My parents were with us and I was constantly worried about them on the stairs...
As a landing pad for a ski weekend at Jay Peak, it would be hard to do much better. Good access, friendly host and everything you could need to recharge to do it again tomorrow. Would do it again.
We stayed here for our sons hockey tournament. We needed a pet friendly option which led us here, and what a find. There are two properties- we stayed in the one on the main floor of the hosts house. Two queens, full sized bunks, great kitchen and sitting area for breakfast. Views from the living room area are unbelievable. The host was great. I Would definitely recommend and stay again. You won’t find many, if any, places close to Jay Peak- I think my average drive to the rink was 8 minutes, that is set in such a beautiful wilderness setting all on its own.
Gorgeous location and property. Host was very accommodating!! The basement apartment style rental was nice. We would recommend heating up the rental before guest arrive in winter (didn’t get warm until 3am our first night) and it was very dusty on all surfaces in the kitchen as they informed us that they just made repairs. Overall sufficient but photos could be better in the advertisement.
The host and staff were extremely accommodating in getting my bags in while I needed to get out on an adventure. The place was charming and comfortable. We all had a great time and deep rest. We will definitely be back.
Danny was a perfect host. We had a wonderful stay at his place and felt cozy and comfortable during our stay. His dogs were friendly and enjoyed playtime with our pups. We will absolutely look to stay with Danny again when we go back to Jay Peak. His place is perfect for couples, small groups of friends or family and would be great in any season. Super close 3 mile drive to Jay Peak base via the main road.
Beautiful place to stay. Views are incredible. Danny was very kind and accommodating. So close to the jay’s peak water park which was the primary reason for our visit. Will definitely book again next time we are headed to the area.
I was just up for a quick day at Jay Peak and needed a reasonable overnight option. This fit the bill. Close to the resort, comfortable, and beautiful setting. There was more than enough room for two of us and the beds were comfortable.
There seemed to be an infestation of lady bugs. Harmless, but they were prevalent throughout on the floors and walls. Hence only 4 stars on cleanliness.
I would stay again for a family ski trip and bring the rest of the gang along.
We stayed in this cabin for a week of family skiing at Jay Peak. This is a very cozy place with picture windows and fantastic views of a wintry forest and mountains (the pristine side, not ski slopes) and sounds of a burbling stream (which was really burbling after a heavy rain). The temperature outside was around 10F most of out stay, but the cabin was very warm, including the warm tile floors throughout. It is meticulously kept. The gas fireplace is cozy and we enjoyed it every evening. The internet is fast enough for streaming TV. The mattresses are extremely comfortable. The host, Danny, lives in the same house on the upper floors, and he took care to plow/shovel the snow as soon as it fell - we were lucky enough to get a lot of snow and it was easy to get out in the morning. The Jay Peak ski resort is within a few minutes driving (but note the nearby roads are steep and not salted as much as some of us from warmer places are used to, so it's best to come with AWD in winter).
Our group had a great stay. We rented both the first floor of the main house and the guest house. The property is in such a great location to Jay Mountain. Accommodations were everything we needed.
Great place, beautiful surroundings, incredible hosts.
The surrounding mountains are gorgeous and the apartment is very clean and cozy, but it was our hosts who made our stay truly outstanding. Be it answering our every beck and call, buying a hiking guidebook when they realized one went missing from the apartment, advising about/shoveling//lending us equipment to go sledding on the property, or, as others have mentioning, bringing down homemade cookies, each action contributed to elevating a great stay to an exceptional one.
We were up for a few days to ski Jay Peak and had an amazing time. The property was exactly how described in the listing. We had some snow while we were there and each morning the walk and drive were cleared for us to get to the mountain. I highly reccomend this property if in the Jay Peak area.

About the host
Hosted by Danny Richardson
I’m Danny Richardson. I was raised in Vermont & Costa Rica among other places. Our parents took us on hikes from the Appalachian Trail to active volcanoes as well as full day bike rides on dirt roads in Vermont. I started to ski at age 7 (with a hiatus while in Costa Rica). I started mountain biking in 1992. In 1998 I moved to New Hampshire and started backcountry skiing Tuckerman Ravine. Soon I was guiding others to share the magnificent experience. (My youngest first skied Tuckerman when he was three.)
Taking children backcountry was a great lead-in to guiding. Soon, all my sons’ friends were going too. It really brought out my appreciation for caring for people who are not as fit and experienced. It is rewarding to see people build a passion for the outdoors. I enjoy taking people of all levels to the backcountry.
My sons and I have always loved Jay Peak for the trees, the snow and the general vibe. I lucked out with two beautiful homes on one magnificent property surrounded by 6 mountains all hikable/skiable from here. Every day is a gift — one that I love to share.
Why they chose this property
Nestled between Big Jay, Little Jay, Buchanan Mountain and Domey's Dome is our comfortable mountain home. You will be staying in the entire first floor. While our guest house is a great place, the 1st floor is simply beautiful. The view from all windows is magnificent (see photos).
There are double/full size bunk beds in the 1st bedroom. The two other beds are queen-sized wall beds. They are all in different rooms giving everyone there own private sleeping space.
Jay Brook's relaxing sound can be heard from your covered patio. Guests comment on how all beds are nicely nestled in their own private spaces. The view of the mountains from the living room, bedroom and dining rooms is stunning even when it's cloudy and snowing. The starry skies are amazing and wonderful to view while sitting by the fire pit. Dry wood is right there for your use.
What makes this property unique
A beautiful and remote home in the Green Mountains with a fantastic view and a trout stream running just below. The night sky is magnificent because no one else is around. You get all the benefits of a solitary property yet are only 2.6 miles from the nearest restaurant and bar, 3 miles from Jay Peak and 5 miles from groceries and downtown Montgomery Center.
