Managment made this stay unpleasant
The property is quite lovely. The power was out our first two nights (not the owners fault) and we had no candles or flashlights in the home. Contacted property manager who had owner bring over three decorative candles. The property is on a well and without power the water doesn’t work, we were unable to flush toilets, wash dishes or have drinking water. The power went out the 2nd day as well and when we contacted the property manager to get more candles, a flashlight and water and were told that it’s rural Montana these things happen, they were not responsible. We are not asking them to be responsible for the power going out, but being responsible for having emergency supplies available. The basic response was yep, we feel like we have done all we need to, it’s rural Montana. We rented this house because we needed a space where a wheelchair bound member of our family was able to stay, due to the power and water outage she and her care taker had to find other accommodations at significant expense - we asked for a partial refund, or a reduction as we now didn’t have as many people staying at the house and got told we were welcome to leave but no discounts would be taken - we had a wedding we were in, we were not able to pack up and leave! The owners wife was fantastic at trying to get us all we needed on the third day and we didn’t lose power again but the property manager and her responses to us and our concerns left a sour taste on our trip.
Room layout was not as expected - 4 rooms - two with double beds, one with a double bed and two twin beds and one with two double beds and one twin bed - be comfortable with who you are sharing the house with!
.It is disappointing when expectations aren’t met. We work very hard to make sure that the people who share our place have a wonderful stay. Sometimes no matter what we do we cannot meet those expectations. When this client arrived, my husband was informed that two people in the party had made other arrangements, and that there were fewer in her party. The client saw that a non-operating, outside pane of a double pane window was broken and requested a discount for the broken window. It happened, the window was being replaced and fixed right after the discount was requested. The weather had been hot and beautiful right before the client check in. In Montana it is not unusual for the weather to change, it became rainy and cold. I am sure it was a disappointment for the client as they were here for a wedding. The clients first night on the property there was a rollover accident that knocked out the power for about 2+- hours 9:30-10pm until shortly after midnight. Our manager (mgr) called us saying the client called and was upset because they could not flush the toilets and could not find candles and flashlights. My husband took over some candles and later some bottled water. In a conversation with the client the next day they expressed with exuberance that they were experienced campers and raised on a farm and come prepared for those excursions but the power being out was one they weren’t prepared for. They said they were looking at the breaker box etc. They were using their cell phones as flashlights. They expressed that they managed for the two hours +-. The next night was a major power outage. Power was out from Livingston and surrounding areas all the way to Big Timber and surrounding areas. This happened at night, in lightening and rain, from 10pm to 2:00-2:30am. When they next texted our mgr, they said that two people had to make other arrangements because of the power outage. They must have forgotten that they had already told my husband upon arrival that the people had made other arrangements before the arrival at our place, they thought it was imperative to flush toilets they asked for a discount. Our mgr said that these outages are out of our control, and that we would not be offering discounts at this time. The client then started sending her texts citing Montana Law. She then referred the matter over to my husband who is a lawyer in Montana. The next morning, I went in and explored where the flashlights and emergency candles had been stored and the client was correct in that there were none. We sincerely apologize for this oversight. (Sometimes items are used up or borrowed, we are not always notified. We do not become aware until we do inventory at the end of the year or in an instance like this.) While looking for the candles I noticed that on top of the refrigerator was a case of water in addition to the water my husband had taken over the night before. I also informed them that there were two large pitchers for water in the cupboard. And the client offered that he would not have filled them anticipating a power outage. The client was very generous with advice and criticism about our mgr . Over the last 13 years our mgr has done an exemplary job for us. We couldn’t be more pleased having her on board. That very morning, I provided them with two large buckets, emergency lantern, flashlight, a box of emergency candles, two pillars, in addition to the candles my husband had given them. We offered to go against our policy and offer a refund for the remainder of their stay and that they could take their time checking out. This was not adequate resolve. They chose to stay. The VRBO site provides description and pictures showing each bedroom set up. The client stated that they had looked at the site. I do not know what they expected as it is laid out in the property description. We are on site and readily available to all who stay with us.
This was our second stay at this location where our entire family (dad, mom, children & spouses and grandchildren) all gather from 3 states for an entire week. Such a beautiful location and home. Plenty of activities to keep all ages occupied and happy as well as much needed relaxing time. I'm sure we will be returning in the future.
We had relatives in from out of town and wanted a place on the river where we could all be together....this place was perfect! Owner was a delight as were the dogs! We enjoyed the river and the house was homey and comfortable. There was plenty of room, the beds were very comfortable and the landscaping/outdoor areas were amazing. We hope to stay there again!
The property was great. Well maintained and provisioned.
Location was stunning right on the Yellowstone River with easy access to Chico Hot Springs, Yellowstone, Livingston and all other surrounding activities.
Owner was friendly and helpful.
