Welcome to The Happy Hen!

Stay in the entire upstairs of a charming, fully renovated 100+ year-old farmhouse-just 10 minutes (8 miles) from downtown Gettysburg. With cozy decor, modern amenities, and wine country right around the corner, it's the perfect blend of historic charm and comfort.

The Space
The Happy Hen offers 4 bedrooms, 1 bath (with a stall-style shower), a well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable living space filled with antiques and local charm. Outside, unwind by the fire pit or enjoy a quiet evening under the stars.

Located within minutes of The Historic Cashtown Inn, Pennsylvania's top wineries, two state parks, ski slopes, and the historic Gettysburg Battlefield, this home is ideal for exploring the region.

The Hen is the entire upper level of our two-unit farmhouse. The lower level is The Rested Rooster. Each unit has its own private entrance, but the yard, fire pit, and charcoal grill are shared spaces.

Historic Charm
Built over a century ago, the farmhouse was thoughtfully renovated in 2016. The original wood floors, antique doors, and vintage fixtures remain, preserving the home's authenticity. Expect creaky floors, cozy corners, and character in every room.

Note: Due to its historic nature, the bathroom is compact, and there are a few low-clearance doorways (tall guests, duck!). The home sits close to the road, and traffic-including orchard trucks-can be heard. If you're sensitive to sound, we provide white noise machines and earplugs.

Sound carries between floors, much like in a hotel, but most guests are respectful of each other.

Important Notes

Departure procedures include: cleaning dishes, and taking out trash.

A signed rental agreement is required.

High-speed WiFi with unlimited data is included.

Pet Policy
We welcome pets with a $75 flat fee for the first and $25 for each additional. Our "Top Dog Package" includes:

Dry shampoo and paw wipes

Waste bags

Food/water bowls and placemat

Microfiber towels

Endless treat jar

The home is professionally treated for fleas/ticks and cleaned thoroughly between guests-including black light scans for accidents. Pets are not allowed on furniture..

Family trip

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Happy Hen. Close to everything we wanted to do, but still very much out in the country, quiet, cozy, and had a great time at the fire pit under the stars.

The Happy Hen was the perfect spot for my wife and I and our two children, aged 10 and 6. Minutes away from the battlefield, with a very convenient Dollar General just down the road, the HH was cozy and delightful. We intend to stay again in the future.

Restful and Peaceful escape

It is a simple and beautiful set up on the 2nd floor. We enjoyed saying hello to the goats each time we arrived and everything was very smooth. The only oddity is that there are very few light switches several of the ceiling lights are turned on at the light. I would definitely stay here again. It was very convenient for how close it is to Gettysburg.

An adorable historic home!

My sister, friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay at the Happy Hen! It was clean, had all the amenities we needed (plus more!), and we had fun admiring the home’s historic accents. Danielle was very responsive to any messages/questions. There were many both indoor and outdoor activities in close proximity to the house, and we hope to come back in the near future. Girls’ Getaway

Perfect meeting place for four girls to meet up and reconnect! Lots of space , comfortable beds and living room furniture. Only issue was ton of stink bugs trying to stay out of the cold inside with us! Nothing an exterminator couldn’t fix! Would stay again! Loved the friendly goats in the yard!

Comfortable and convenient

Great place for exploring the area. We attended a show at Totem Pole and the battlefields of Gettysburg so this place was ideal. Needs a new smart TV as the Chanel choice is extremely limited and the tv was old so unable to stream from iPad. There were six of us so although enough bedding the bathroom facility was extremely cramped and kitchen likewise. Great for the two nights we stayed but with six of us I would not have wanted to stay longer.

6 night stay/late night arrival

Beautiful apartment. Everything was clean and the rooms were bigger than i expected being 4 bedrooms and an older house. We got a late start to our trip, as promised when i let her know, the main lights were on for us. We also adored the welcoming committee. As a misplaced country girl, I loved being greeted by the goats when we came and went. The only negative things there was a lot of semi traffic and the shower was quite cramped, but overall very nice place!!

Wonderful decor and space inside the property. Would have been nice to have a pot and pan provided. Ideally a walking trail around the yard would be great for future. Goats outside were adorable and lots of amenities were provided such as tv, internet, other kitchen items and everything was good quality. Can definitely hear the neighbors well. A bit high of a cleaning fee for still needing to do a fair amount of cleanup before leaving. Otherwise wonderful place and would stay again if I had a group and a pet.

Very comfortable and homey. House has plenty of space. Loved the yard and the fire pit! Wish the weather was a bit warmer so we could have enjoyed it. The intersection with 30 was a bit busy. Children and pets need to be watched very carefully.

Fantastic location to Gettysburg

A great place for home base when exploring the area. A little tough if you’re tall (over 6’) many head hazards. But cute and dog friendly. Only true complaint was the road noise. If you’re from the country, you won’t get used to it.

Perfect situation!

We rented this adorable farm house for our family the weekend of our daughter ‘s wedding at Hauser Hill. It is 2 minutes from the venue, perfectly clean and stocked with all necessities. So spacious and plenty of parking. For the first night we had neighbors downstairs and would have loved to share the fire outside but simply had no time. Danielle went out of her way to communicate and make sure our stay went smoothly on this incredible weekend for our family!
