About this property
Chestnut House: private luxury log cabin with mountain views, trout stream, WiFi
This unique cabin has a large front porch with awesome mountain views, hand-hewn logs, chestnut cabinets and paneling, hardwood floors, a vaulted great room with a massive floor to ceiling stone fireplace, a gourmet kitchen with an additional wood-burning fireplace, 4 bedrooms (2 king, 1 queen, 2 twins), 3 full bathrooms, and a large terraced front lawn. It is ideally located less than 500 ft from the pristine trout-filled waters of the Pigeon River with private access to river, a large mowed grassy meadow, and a separate fishing pond; 2 miles to Lake Logan; 9 miles to Waynesville; 15 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway; and 30 miles to Asheville! Access is easy along paved roads, with a very short stretch of level gravel. And there is parking for 5 vehicles! You won't need AWD or 4WD unless it's icy in the wintertime.
This is a perfect place to unwind and relax: sit on one of the six rockers on the front porch and just watch the clouds roll over and between the mountains while listening to the sounds of the river; or linger in the kitchen, sitting in a comfortable glider while drinking a cup of coffee or tea. If its chilly, you may even want to build a fire! If you like to cook, use the fully equipped gourmet kitchen to prepare a fabulous meal and eat it at the porch table with seating for six or at the custom-built dining room table while taking in the ever-changing views and watching the hummingbirds dart about. In the evening you may want to gather in the tastefully furnished living room and watch internet TV or a video, read a book, build a fire, or just visit with friends and family. You might even want to build a fire in the huge outdoor firepit and stargaze.
When you are ready to venture out, there are tons of options for adventures. Asheville, with the Biltmore House, Grove Park Inn Spa, RiverArts district, and fine dining is a short 40 min drive; Waynesville, with multiple grocery stores, farm markets, boutique shops, and galleries is even closer. Cherokee's casinos are less than an hour's drive away.
If you are an outdoor enthusiast, you will surely fall in love with this area. It’s surrounded by NC state-owned lands and the Pisgah National Forest. There are several hiking and mountain biking trails within 5 mi of the cabin, and there are numerous trails and waterfalls located closer to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Great Smokey Mountains National Park with its elk herd at Cataloochee is only 30 miles away. The pristine trout-filled Pigeon River is just a short walk downhill from the cabin, and there are many gorgeous fishing spots. Nearby. Last but not least, you will find whitewater rafting, gorgeous golf courses, and even downhill skiing all within a short drive from our cabin.
And don’t worry if you need to check-in at work while you’re here. We have great, reliable internet access and a small, private desk located in an upstairs bedroom.

About the host
Hosted by Karen Ford
When we're at Chestnut House we typically spend our mornings sitting in the rocking chairs or gliders, drinking coffee on the covered front porch or by the fire in the kitchen (depending on the season), watching birds at the feeders and staring at the gorgeous mountain view. Most days we go for a hike and picnic lunch, then return in the afternoon to relax and prepare a gourmet dinner. We fall asleep at night listening to the river and breathing cool, clean mountain air.
Our primary residence is in St. Augustine, Florida. We are always invigorated and refreshed when we spend time at Chestnut House either by ourselves, or with family and friends. We enjoy hosting guests at Chestnut House because it is such a special property and we want others to appreciate the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains.

Why they chose this property
After searching for several years for the perfect vacation home in western North Carolina, we purchased Chestnut House almost 5 years ago because it is private yet easily accessed from a well-maintained but not heavily-trafficed road, and is located in a small residential community.
What makes this property unique
Chestnut House is ideally located near mountain trails and streams yet is only a short drive to shopping (antiques, crafts and fine art) and restaurants in Waynesville (15 minutes) and Asheville (30 minutes).
Chestnut House was built using century old logs. It is private, lovingly landscaped and decorated with comfortable furnishings. It is a truly "one-of-a-kind" gem!
