Cana Pointe Lake House rests on a peninsula overlooking Lake Michigan surrounded by the protected Boreal Forest of Baileys Harbor and a stone’s throw from the iconic Cana Island lighthouse. The immediate area can be enjoyed during all four seasons. Our guests enjoy the changing moods of Lake Michigan depending on light and wind conditions. Sunrises and moon risings are spectacular from every room. Northern lights and the Milky Way are often visible from the crow's nest when conditions are right.
Guests actively explore:
- The historic waterfront villages of Door County offer dining, shopping, art and culture. Dining options are many. Shopping is varied. According to Door County’s tourist bureau, over 100 art galleries and studios are scattered throughout the area. Several award-winning theatre groups perform during the season.
- Our location provides easy access to all the Door County attractions without the endless summer traffic of the bayside - a difference only appreciated with experience.
Outdoor activities are a hallmark of Door County and include:
- Boating – rental options on all types of boats as well as charter cruises are located throughout the county.
- Golfing – there are 8 courses on the peninsula and 4 miniature golfing for the small children
- Fishing – a top Midwest site for bass, walleye, perch, brown trout, and salmon – on your own or with one of the dozen charters. Ice fishing is available for the seasonally hardy. Note: A 32 pound brown trout was caught locally in April 2021.
- Hiking – there are 5 state parks, 19 county parks, and numerous village hiking trails. The Boreal Forest hike begins just steps away. Note: The autumn leaf colors in Door County vie with New England in annual surveys.
- Biking – through the state parks and along the rustic roads.
More extreme sports include wind surfing, scuba diving the over 100 shipwrecks along the coast, and zip lining.
- Guided nature walks at the nearby Ridges Sanctuary.
- Taking a ferry over to Washington Island to experience where the settling of Wisconsin started.
- The solitude of winter with cozy fires and the ability to enjoy winter sports like tubing, snow shoeing, ice skating, dog sledding, pond hockey, and cross-country skiing

About the host
Hosted by Bill DeVitt
We have hosted over 80 groups since my wife Monica and I bought this property in 2021. I'm a native of Wisconsin, but lived for forty years in California. We recently moved to Door County full-time after using it as a secondary home for 20 years.
I am interested in nature, history, sports, travel, and business and am a docent at the Door County Maritime Museum.
I am interested in nature, history, sports, travel, and business and am a docent at the Door County Maritime Museum.
Why they chose this property
This is family-owned and designed by a local architect. We recently purchased it to be an occasional home near our Milwaukee and Minneapolis grandchildren and to share its ambience with guests like you throughout the seasons. Monica and I have several decades of seasonal Door County living experience and have a personal commitment to improve your getaway here in Door County. We love the quiet solitude yet active lifestyle of Door County so much we have moved here permanently.
What makes this property unique
This home was re-designed by an architect to take advantage of the unique geography of the property. This is a luxury accommodation right on the lake, away from the hustle and bustle of Door County towns, yet close enough to enjoy all they have to offer.
