About this property
The Pink Door - Walk to Downtown / Super Clean !
“Best Vrbo I have ever stayed at!” - this, plus “the cleanest” fill reviews for our 1900 home, with an easy walk to shops, restaurants, the Castillo, St. George Street, the trolley, and everything else. And you're just a 5-minute drive from the beach!
IMPORTANT! - When requesting a stay, you MUST provide the names of all guests and where you are from. We will not approve any request without knowing who wants to stay with us Thank you!
You’ll love our comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen, new Keurig (with frother!), gas grill, firepit, cozy front porch, and complimentary wine. So join all our other 5-star guests and make The Pink Door your new home in Saint Augustine.
Due to the number of family heirlooms and antique item in the home, we no longer allow children under 13 years of age.
*****************************
Built in the final year of the 19th century, this house possesses old-style charm with modern comforts. When we bought it in 2015 it had been unoccupied for 15 years - and it showed! But now there's all new electrical, plumbing, and AC, with beautifully refinished original wood floors, a HUGE kitchen island, modern bathrooms, and super-comfortable beds (1 king, 1 California King, and 1 queen).
Once you book we'll send our curated recommendations about the area plus where (and when) to by food, and which wines from the locally famous San Sebastian winery you may request as your complimentary bottle. It will be on the counter or chilling in the fridge when you arrive!
More about the house...
We've retained many features from the original house, built when William McKinley occupied another, perhaps better-known, white house! Such as... hardwood floors, original doors with all their hardware, and the old (wavy) leaded glass windows. Since we opened things up a bit, we even turned one of the old doors sideways and made it into the front side of the granite island!
The AC works great - very important in Florida! There's a front porch with comfortable chairs and a fan above, plus a back patio where you can grill (propane provided), eat, or enjoy the fire pit. Plug in the lights strung around the patio and you are all set for a relaxing outdoor evening with family and friends.
There are ceiling fans throughout, and plantatiion shutters on all the windows except for the back bedroom, which has blackout curtains.
The larger bath has a tub/shower, while the other has a walk-in shower. Both offer hand grips for anyone who might be a bit shaky getting in and out of tubs and showers.
Please note: there is a $30 per night charge for guests #5 and #6 if you have more than 4 people in your party. This gets calculated automatically when you book, but if you book with 4 or fewer and later decide to bring more people (up to two) you will be asked for the extra payment.

About the host
Hosted by Steve & Sandy Jacoby

Steve and Sandy Jacoby have lived in Saint Augustine since 2015. Steve was born in Jacksonville but mostly grew up in New Jersey. Sandy is from Pittsburgh but mostly grew up in Venezuela and Wilmington, Delaware. Along the way we spent considerable time in South Carolina, Ohio, and Chicago.
In 2012 we started a 501(c) (3) non-profit, Sheep Not Goats, to help people in Nicaragua, the poorest country in Latin America. We built a farm and have focused on providing employment in a small and very poor town called Malpaisillo.
More recently, Sandy taught women there to knit beautiful baby blankets that we sell here in the US, returning all the profits to the knitters. This venture is called Sheep Dreamzzz. We invite you to check out these amazing handmade blankets and lovey security blankets and hope you will consider them the next time you plan to give a baby gift. Our site is sheepdreamzzz.org and we’d be happy to show you some blankets in-person. Just ask!

Why they chose this property
This house was built in 1900 - the very last year of the 18th century when William McKinley occupied another, slightly more famous, white house a bit up the road! While major systems like electricity, plumbing, and heating/air are all new, we made sure to retain a historic feel in the house. Beautiful refinished floors, plantation shutters, original doors with their hardware - even the huge kitchen island has one of the old doors at your feet as you sit at the counter stools!
You'll find plantation shutters throughout, and we've retained features from the original house from when William McKinley occupied another, perhaps better-known, white house! Such as... original doors with all their hardware and the old (wavy) leaded glass windows. Since we opened things up a bit, we even turned one of the old doors sideways and made it into a side of the granite island!
We're an easy walk to most of what Saint Augustine has to offer. We live right across the street and that's exactly what we loved about moving here.

What makes this property unique
"Unique" means "how is The Pink Door Different from other nearby short-term rental options?" The honest truth is that many rentals in town are a short distance from the major attractions. We love our house at 42 Rohde because it is spacious, has a historic feel, and it's easy to get to where you want to go while having a comfortable place to call home while you are in town.
Read the many 5-star reviews and you will see that many people say it's not only the cleanest rental they have every stayed in, but also "the best" they've ever experienced.
It's a great house to "crash" in, with a huge TV, new & solid AC system, and plenty of hangout area on both the front porch and back patio. And there's a firepit and propane grill for your use if you so desire.
One special touch we've added is the complimentary bottle of excellent wine from Saint Augustine's San Sebastian Winery - a recommended local attraction (and free to visit).
