Very clean and and beautiful cabin! We very much enjoyed the privacy of this location with a beautiful forest view. There was a charming woodstove and clawfoot tub. We definitely plan to return. The road its on can be a little rough so be prepared for that.
Sugar Mountain provides a lovely and peaceful respite from the outside world. A cozy and super comfortable home away from home. Close to Brookings Harbour, hiking at Scenic Corridor, and quaint Gold Coast. Unique spot and super welcoming hosts! Can’t wait to come back!
The location of the cabin was beautiful! The clawfoot tub and amenities included to make a relaxing bath was amazing. My best friend and I had a great time.
Cute little house. Loved the deck and the feeling of seclusion. The house was well supplied and beds where comfortable, as long as you like soft beds. Enjoyed our stay.
I stayed here with my mother and two kids. We all loved the coziness of the cabin, including the wood stove and claw foot bathtub. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay during a very rainy time at the coast.
This is a beautifully made cozy and a bit quirky cabin. I loved everything about it...the drive up the mountain to it, the deck cantilevered over the edge of the mountain so you are up in the trees, the cozy inside with the handmade door latches. It was a wonderful getaway.
We enjoyed our stay in this cabin. It's cozy, quirky and rustic. We loved the peacefulness of the forest, yet still close to a small town. The spiral staircase is a great addition and the craftsmanship and quality of work was obvious. We recommend this place!
Super cute gem hidden in a private serene location. The cabin is unique, rustic and magical. You felt like you escaped to a whole another place! Loved the doors and bathroom. Clean, comfortable and cozy. I didn't want to leave. The hosts are amazing! I hope to be back
This place was exactly as expected and then some. Right down the road from the absolutely stunning Samuel H Boardman Scenic Corridor. The cabin is beautiful, peaceful, and perfectly located. The hosts were wonderful. They checked in on us to make sure we didn't need anything. They had a music system that really made staying in a great option. I would stay again and again ❤
Very rustic but nice. We had a great time despite the torrential rain. The only suggestion for the listing would be to mention the 2nd bedroom with the larger bed, is a loft with a very steep ladder . ( Too difficult for my husband who gets up several times a night to use the bathroom).
This is a great spot if you are looking for a quiet charming place to enjoy some down time. It’s best probably for a couple, but will sleep more. The cabin itself is marvelous. It’s small and very efficiently laid out. The builder handmade much of it and everything is wonderfully crafted. You can feel the quality of the hand construction. The location is a bit tricky to find on arrival especially at night, but follow the directions and it’s not a problem. It becomes easy once you’ve been there. It’s surrounded by neighbors but you don’t see or hear anything, it has a secluded feel and you can enjoy the coastal woods surrounding you. Close to Brookings and Gold Beach is 20 minutes drive. Hosts are great.
The hand-crafted cabin was exceptionally beautiful and cozy; the atmosphere of the place gave my sister and I a comforting feeling. We loved being tucked away in the back of the community where we saw wildlife deer passing through, and listened to the rain in the early morning pour over the cabin. The fireplace was also a wonderful addition to our stay. Johan was responsive and helpful in communicating that there was a large puddle outside the cabin that is difficult to drain when that area sees heavier rainfall. My sister and I took necessary precautions. One thing I might add for property improvements would be a non-slip rug outside on the porch entrance before the mudroom. It was quite slippery, but we managed. Overall, we had a wonderful stay! I would definitely return and extend the invite to other friends and family. Thank you!

Pros and Cons
Pros:
Quiet, nice tub, nice deck, in the woods, everything worked.
Cons: Place was dark-needs more lighting, the ground floor bed is a double-my partner and I squeezed into it. If you want a queen bed, it's up one either a ladder or an attic stairway-I wouldn't want to have to come down either in the middle of the night to use the toilet. Also the queen bed was way too soft for us. We sank into the couch and it was too small for two adults. Would be better to get rid of the small table next to the couch and get a longer couch.
Place is maybe better suited to one person than two.
Also, it's not so easy to find, especially at night.

Sugar Mountain is a one -of-a-kind experience in a charming and cozy cabin - but 'small' does come up occasionally..
While the cabin can accommodate groups of four, it is more ideally suited for a couple or solo traveler.
The bed upstairs is actually a King size, downstairs is a double/ full, and both have always been reviewed to be very comfortable. ☆There's also a full-size bed in the loft that we don't advertise as we don't want to encourage groups ☆
We do say in our listing that the loft is accessed by a ladder or pull-down stairs that may not be ideal for everyone, but we are planning an upgrade to a spiral staircase coming next year :)
Finally, Sugar Mountain isn't really hard to find; its the second to last house on a dead-end road, with a sign pointing the way down the driveway. It is private and a bit remote- above the clouds in Cape Ferrelo - but close to the ocean and town of Brookings.
The cottage is set in a very nice wooded location, it has everything you need, and is just right for two. As has been mentioned before, you do need to have some remaining athletic ability to access the king sized bed “upstairs” either via the “ladder” on the wall, or via the more traditional drop down “attic” stairs. If you use the latter, anyone who has a large frame, will struggle to access the only bathroom should you need too while the attic stair is lowered,. The living area is both artistically rustic and well equipped. The WI-FI worked well enough for me to stream live TV without hesitation. Brookings is a short drive away with a well stocked grocery store, so while this location feels a little off the grid, the truth is you are close to all you need. Overall it’s a lovely location, peacefully nestled amongst the tree’s.
This was the perfect getaway for the two of us. Close to both town and the beautiful Oregon coast, but still feels like you have the world to yourself. The cabin is cozy and charming and has everything you need. It was great!
We had such a great time at their little cabin tucked away in the wooded hillside. The cabin was so cute and cozy we hated to leave. They did and excellent job describing the location and even found it with google maps. Their cabin was exactly what we were looking for. We hope to visit again in the near future.
The cabin was clean, beds were comfortable and location worked well for local activities (Jerry's Rogue River Jet boat tour and Barnacle Bistro in Gold Beach, hiking, beachcombing, exploring the 12 mile scenic corridor). We enjoyed seeing the neighborhood deer. It is a gravel road getting here, but not bad. Internet was excellent.
Excellent home base for a trip to the south Oregon coast. Comfortable cabin in a natural setting with easy access to nature (beaches, redwoods, kayaking, etc) and nearby towns (restaurants, stores, etc).
Quiet place. Well stocked. Everything in great working order. Home owner checked in by email during our stay in case anything was needed. Check in was super easy. And earlier check in was offered as well. Seamless stay. Hope to return to this property for another stay.

Why they chose this property
Sugar Mountain is truly a one of a kind cabin built by an amazing artist and architect Douglas Purdy. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is exceptional throughout the cabin, and we love cozying up in front of the woodstove or soaking in the glorious claw-foot bathtub.
What makes this property unique
Situated just above the Samuel Bordman Scenic Corridor, there are spectacular beaches, viewpoints, hikes and more all within two miles of the cabin. While not an ocean-view home, you can hear the ocean and enjoy the coastal fog that makes the Oregon Coast unqiue.
