Clean and roomy. It had almost every amenity to make it a comfortable stay. We were able to dock our boat on the pier which made things convenient. There are numerous restaurants in the area. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves.

Property was fabulous. Communication was great and close to Western Michigan University
Our families (including kids ages 11-14) had a wonderful stay. The house is very clean; the host is clearly thoughtful in taking care of the details. The biggest hit for our group was the kayaks, enough for all 3 kids to go together, and they all kayaked non stop. Great location too as it feels remote yet close to Kalamazoo and shopping amenities.
We didn’t enjoy the lake cause of the fall weather! Make sure you bring your own kcups if you’re a morning coffee drinker! We loved the inside of this place!

There was plenty of room for all. It would be lovely in the summer! Thank you!
Property was exactly as listed/pictured. We used the cottage as a home base for WMU graduation weekend. House is well appointed and equipped and reasonable close to downtown Kzoo and WMU campus. Thanks!
Very clean house, great property, and Owner was responsive when the door code wasn’t provided (not Owners fault, rather VRBO).
House was exactly how it was portrayed online. We caught tons of fish and enjoyed the kayaks and our time there!
We had a great time! We enjoyed the house with our four children (ages 1-8) and my in-laws, and everyone had a comfortable room to sleep in. The walkout basement is a great area to gather for meals and games. It was too cold for us to swim in the lake, but our kids enjoyed fishing. The family's lake access (in the backyard) seems like a great swimming area for kids. Shallow water and a small beach with sand. We had a great time!
Great location, easy access to the lake and great for sunsets. Appreciate the kayaks and paddle boards. Rented a pontoon boat from someone nearby which was a plus. Well stocked with useful items in the home, details such as sunscreen, appreciate the healthy cleaners and soap. A few lightbulbs were out, which would be my only complaint. All the fish caught were small Bass, couldn't find Bluegill anywhere, unfortunately.
We had a group of 5 moms for a Galentine's weekend. There was ample space for us to spread out and everything was very clean. The living room was cozy and was perfect for playing games or watching movies (or nostalgic music videos). The kitchen had everything we needed and then some. There are no complaints - the owner was incredibly communicative and we had a wonderful stay.
Great view of Eagle Lake. Sunsets are awesome. Cottage was clean with plenty of sleeping beds. Very quiet surroundings, particularly because the cottage was located off of main lake roads. Lower level meant family groups could have quiet zones and other groups could be noiser. Very easy to find a place of solitude and read. Would recommend the use of this rental.
We really enjoyed the house and the lake. Our kids were disappointed that the trampoline float was not available when we arrived, and it would have been nice if the owners had given us a heads up about that. Also had an issue with the thermostat, but were able to resolve it. Overall, a good lake house rental experience.
Home was comfortable and clean. Owners were quick to respond to our concerns. The stairs to the dock were a work in progress, didn’t get finished until a few days before we left. The handrail to the lower level was missing.

Thank you for being great guests and the communication. I apologize for the work in progress and appreciate your understanding due to labor/supply issues the dock project had taken much longer to complete than expected.
Drove from Minnesota to spend Thanksgiving weekend with our daughter who is attending WMU. It was so nice to have a home away from home to stay instead of a hotel for 4 days! Great location and close enough to town, easy to get to! We will definitely be staying there again!
We had a fabulous weekend visiting Kalamazoo. The cottage had everything we needed and we felt right at home. Super cute, comfy place to stay! Would book again!
We have 7 people in our family and the Zootopia lake cabin had plenty of room inside and outside. The water toys were fantastic, we utilized them all and the fire pit - eating outside with that view was a favorite!
My husband, five kids and myself had a wonderful family vacation. The house was so welcoming and beautiful! We had a very relaxing vacation there. So much to do with all of our kids and they just loved being on the water all day!! The neighbors were also very friendly to all of us!! Thanks again for helping my family and I make wonderful memories that we will never forget!!

Uncomfortable host, uncomfortable stay
This host is not comfortable accommodating 10 guests, as the listing states. She threatened to cancel our stay the day before we were due to arrive. The listing encourages guests to bring a boat, but the host is uncomfortable with guests docking a boat on the pier. The host attempted to contact us during our stay, making it known that we were under her surveillance. Also the neighbor exposed himself to the females in our party several times. Just a little uncomfortable overall.

Neil I am disappointed to hear your review. I asked how many adults you had in your party as the reservation states 6 adults maximum and up to 4 children.
Owner was amazing! They offered use of their water toys and beautiful home. Newly renovated and the downstairs was an awesome addition. Even though we used our own detergent and cooking supplies, they offered use of all things in the home.
The only time we didn't hear back from the owner was upon leaving to make sure she knew everything they asked was completed.
Parking was the only downside for our family as we were only allowed 2 vehicles for a 4 bedroom home. Would stay again if we have the opportunity and if we could possibly find parking closer.

About the host
Hosted by Heather Derickson
Our family loves to travel and have adventures but one of our favorite things to do is be at the lake, whether it is in the summer spending our days and evenings fishing, water sports, BBQ and having fires in the evening or during the winter we love to play some pond hockey and ice fish as well as hit up the local ski resorts.
Why they chose this property
The Cottage of "Zoo"topia reminds me of my childhood and spending some many summer days/nights are friends cottages. It is the perfect size to relax in at the end of the night because we spend most of our days and evenings outside. We also love the location. Kalamazoo is such an amazing town with great restaurants, family friendly activities and breweries plus it is equal distance to Chicago and Detroit.
