Kiawah Home with Private Salwater POOL & Short Walk to Beach!
We are thrilled to tell you about this beautiful, 4 bedroom home on Kiawah Island! Located in the exclusive Vanderhorst gated community of the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, this recently renovated, cedar-plank home features a private saltwater pool and scenic wooded views of the maritime forests surrounding the home. Situated on a quiet cul-de-sac, this home is just a short walk or bike ride over to the beach boardwalk which leads out to ten miles of pristine sandy beach along the Atlantic Ocean.
Entering the main level of the home, you'll be impressed by the open floor-living room, which is highlighted by tray ceiling, white beadboard wainscoting, and hardwood floors throughout. The massive windows allow in an abundance of natural light. This main living room area has comfortable, modern furnishing which face the 55" plasma television and fireplace with built-in shelving. Between this area and the kitchen, you'll find a large wooden dining table with seating for 8 guests. Just off this area are glass doors that lead onto the expansive rear sundeck.
Moving into the renovated kitchen area, you'll appreciate the upgraded cabinetry, granite countertops, stylish backsplash, stainless steel appliances, and large pantry area, all which add to the contemporary feel of the area. The large central island provides a great spot for prepping meals & entertaining, and it boasts four additional stools for seating at the breakfast bar. From the kitchen area, you can access the lovely screened porch area.
Three of the four bedrooms can found on the first floor of the home (one king, one queen, and one full bed + bunk bed). Each of these rooms have their own private bathrooms, closet space and televisions. The queen bedroom also has direct access to the pool deck.
There is a half bathroom off the main living area and a spacious laundry/mudroom with full washer/dryer unit and a utility sink on the first floor for your convenience.
Moving to the second level of the home, you'll find the generous master suite, which enjoys the privacy of it's own floor! It boasts a king bed, walk-in closet, TV and a private balcony overlooking the pool. It has a spacious en-suite bathroom with dual vanity sinks and custom walk-in shower with built-in bench.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the home, however, is the outside back deck area. Spend your days taking a swim in the large saltwater pool or relaxing in the teak lounge chairs on the renovated ipe pool deck with cable railing. Imagine yourself enjoying a cup of coffee while taking in Kiawah's unique wildlife or reminiscing over late night card games with friends and family on the cozy screened porch.

The pool, proximity to the beach, space of the kitchen and dinning area was ideal for children 5-9.
Very comfortable.

We're thrilled to hear you had a great stay and truly appreciate you choosing our property. We’d love to welcome you back anytime!
Nice home, plenty of room, and a nice location for walks, easy bike path access and a short walk to beach. Slightly outdated and little repair issues but very comfortable. The property management was convenient as well.

We're glad you enjoyed the spacious home and the short walk to the beach. We’d love to host you again.
We are regular annual visitors to Kiawah for our family beach vacations. This is one of our favorite homes by far. The pool is really nice to have when the grandkids have had too much sun and sand at the beach. Highly recommend!!
My kids and I had the most magical vacation on Kiawah Island. We had to pivot from our planned Florida vacation due to Milton and we feel like we couldn’t have picked a more incredible week. The house is beautiful and accommodated everyone. The surroundings are stunning and the beach access is perfect. 100 stars from our family!

Thank you, Amanda, for your wonderful review! We’re so glad you and your family had a great vacation on Kiawah Island. It sounds like the house and beach access helped make the experience truly special, despite the change in plans. We’re delighted that everything worked out so well, and we appreciate your kind words.
We spent a week at this lovely property. It could not have been better. Beautiful spacious home, well stocked kitchen, short bike ride to beach and the added bonus of a pool. Owner was very responsive. Thank you! We hope to be back.
This property was very clean and spacious on the inside. Deck furniture could use some new cushions, but we still enjoyed our time by the pool and the trees provided a beautiful setting. I made a mistake and forgot to request the pool to be heated, but the property managers were very accommodating and fixed it for us ASAP. We would happily return. Thanks for a great stay!

My family enjoyed this house for Fall Break. The location was fantastic. It was quiet and private. Easy bike ride to the beach. The kids enjoyed the pool all day :)
The deck is definitely in need of some attention but it was comfortable and easily usable. This is truly the only negative I could offer and is something that could be easily addressed.
The house was very clean and clearly prepared for our arrival. Communication with the management company and check in/out went very smoothly.
The layout of the house was perfect for us. The master bedroom felt private and quiet. All of the furniture was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to grill out/cook daily. The rooms were spacious.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay here very much and would consider returning in the future.

Thank you, Emily, for sharing your experience! We’re delighted to hear that your family had a relaxing Fall Break and enjoyed the quiet, private location and easy access to the beach. It’s great to know the home was clean, well-prepared, and suited your needs with its spacious layout and comfortable furniture. We also appreciate your kind words about our communication and check-in process. Thank you for staying with us, and we’re glad to have been a part of your getaway!
The house space was what we needed and worked out well for our family . We did have a leaking sink at around the bottom in the bathroom off the kitchen. Also a drain pipe came loose under the kitchen sink with water all over the kitchen floor. I did call maintenance and they did fix both issues. My big disappointment was how the front and pool are are not very well taken care of. The front has dead branches and piles of leaves by the front steps and along driveway. Front bushes and grass need to be cut. The pool was not cleaned with a thin layer of leaves on the bottom. I did call and they came out on Wednesday the pool guy said the pool cleaning on Saturday was skip he did not know why. The pool deck I had to sweep off do as not to drag leaves in the house. The pool was the biggest reason we rented the house.

Disappointing Experience
Booked this property for a wedding on the island asking the pool be turned on the morning of our arrival, a Thursday. When we checked in at 4 pm., the water in the pool water was quite cold but figured we needed to give it time and headed out for dinner. Contacted the management company Friday morning as the pool was still not heating up and told them the water coming from the jets was cold. They said the heater is turned on remotely via an app and they would check with whoever manages that. A bit later they contacted us to say that they confirmed it was turned on, that it takes a while to heat up, that it was not a hot tub and the water temp would would only be 10-15 degrees warmer than the air temp. It was much cooler than the air temp so no swimming Friday. Saturday morning the pool still was not heating up and we again contacted them. Shortly thereafter, the pool heater turned on - we could hear a motor running under the deck and coincidentally, within five minutes a man came up onto the deck to clean the pool. The water coming from the jets was now warm and warm air was coming up through the deck as the heater exhaust must be under where you sit. However it was now 11 a.m. Saturday and the pool was JUST turned on. We knew from the management’s previous comments it takes a while to heat up. As we had to leave for the wedding at 3:30 p.m. and check out by 10 a.m. the next morning, we contacted the management company requesting they turn the heater off as it was not going to be any use to us now. We asked that they refund the $450 we paid in advance for this service. They said they needed to reach out to the management company about this - I thought they were the management company! No further communication from anyone, and we have had to initiate a dispute on our credit card to get resolve this. Very disappointing as the pool was supposed to be part of the stay. Also the house does have a mildew odor. We opened some windows to air it out which helped but had to be closed up in the evening because of the mosquitoes. As another reviewer pointed out, the property is a bit tired which we find typical of rentals but can overlook that if everything else is a good experience. And in this case it wasn’t. Don’t rent this property.

Hi Ned - I'm very sorry to read this. :( We do believe there is some confusion around the situation. We did speak with you during your stay regarding the pool heat. Although it was up and running well during your entire stay. The homeowner has an app where they are able to control it and read the temperatures. From our records the pool was anywhere from 86-88 degrees during the three days you were at the home. When you called we explained this as well - and even sent a pool tech a couple of times just to double check all was working and that our reading was correct, which they assured us it was! As a gesture of goodwill we did refund the pool heat fee since you were unhappy, so we were sad to see that the charge was disputed even after the refund. I'm sorry for any confusion and that you had a negative experience. We wish you the best!
We were so excited to spend a week with our older parents and kids in Kiawah. This is our 12th year renting in Kiawah and our 4th year with Sweetgrass. We are very adept at reading and interpreting online listings. The property does not at all reflect the listing- first, the place is is moldy. It has an awful mold smell when you walk in and my husband and I immediately had allergies to the mold- my first time ever, with watery eyes and trouble breathing.
It is also very small- essentially a shotgun house with a bedroom upstairs. Perhaps one nuclear family can use the house but if it is 2 families you would literally be on top of each other as the living room is next to all the downstairs bedrooms (so no TV at night if kids are sleeping).
The description of the house is inaccurate as to the upkeep of the house- all but one of the bathrooms were not "renovated", with mold in the bathrooms and old modular fittings and the furniture in the house is all worn, nicked in places along with the paint in the house. The kitchen is newer but is also pretty run down when you get close to it.
The outside pool area is very nice and it is in a good location for Kiawah with easy access to the beach
We immediately contacted Sweetgrass. The property manager insisted that the house reflected the listing and made no accommodations. Our only choice was to try to relist the house and he would comp us some money back. Due to the fact that I could not breathe in the house, we were forced to move out the next day and lost all of the money we had spent renting the house.

We are sorry to hear that you felt the property was not up your standards. We feel that the description of the layout and condition of the property matches what is offered and describes what the vacation home has in regards to amenities as well as limitations. However, after speaking with both the owner and the property manager, it is to their understanding that there was, and still is, no sign of mold inside the house whatsoever. They believe your comments discussing this are inaccurate since they have cleaned and inspected the property several times (before and after your stay) and have not found any trace of mold.
We are obviously taking this matter very seriously, since mold is a huge health concern for guests. However, as many travelers have stayed prior to your visit, we have not received any other complaints about any sightings of mold or any other health related symptoms that may have occurred.
Nonetheless, we do apologize that you did not get the vacation that you deserved. We did want the chance though to discuss our side of this instance so there is not any confusion with future guests involving this. We would love to discuss this problem further if that is something that interests you. We feel that we may be able to resolve matters in a conversation about this rather than on the property's review page.
Sincerely,
Sweetgrass Properties
As other reviewers noted-- property is very clean and kitchen is well stocked. We loved that the house is set on a small cul-de-sac, off of another dead-end road that meets Bufflewood Dr. It's a short .4 mile on quiet roads/Flyway Greenway. VERY safe for kids.
The house is just fine- it’s not a luxury home by any means. That being said, it was very clean and everything worked. The pool was nice. The deck furniture was very uncomfortable- no cushions provided. There is a big box on pool deck which is where we thought the cushions were but it’s full of junky pool toys. The neighborhood is very nice but it’s a bit of a hike to the beach. The property manager was very responsive.
The home was in great shape, very clean and very well stocked. Our kids loved the pool (so glad we had it heated at this time of year); the access to the beach was very easy on foot or bikes. We would highly recommend staying at this home.
Great location, beautiful updated home - just as pictured! Our group spanned from ages 11 to 79, and everyone had a great time. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking at home, but the local restaurants are so great that we only did that twice during our visit. Beautiful pool, and just a short walk or bike ride to the beach (which was virtually empty - nice open spaces to spread out!) We had a minor issue come up and the homeowner responded immediately and resolved it that day. We will definitely come back!
We loved this Kiawah home away from home. The house is beautiful, spacious and well maintained. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to feel at home. The beds were comfy. Everyone loved the pool! Can’t say enough good things about this rental.
This house is a terrific find! It has an easy layout with the kitchen and living room opening into a great pool deck. The location is great. It’s a quick walk to the beach and to the miles of bikes trails etc.
