Welcome to a uniquely remodeled 1300 square foot guest house above the detached garage. Enjoy your mountain vacation in this modern, fully furnished, quiet getaway. This is a private, end of the road retreat with everything needed to have a comfortable stay near Durango. Located ON the Florida River approximately 7 miles Northeast of downtown and a short drive to Lemon, Nighthorse, and Vallecito Reservoirs.
Your own private spacious deck has dinner table four four with a couple extra spring chairs and tables to take in the quiet mornings and enjoy an evening dinner outside. Grill anytime of the year. The deck has an amazing view of the river and the surrounding mountains.

The open living room has a WIFI smart TV, electric fireplace, two sitting chairs, coffee table, and sliding glass doors that open to your deck overlooking the river. There is a sleeper sofa can be used for extra guests and has a very comfortable self-inflating mattress. The open U-shaped kitchen has beautiful granite counters, stainless steel oven/ gas stove top, dishwasher, microwave, and coffee makers. It comes fully stocked for those that like to cook and seating at the large island.

The large master bedroom hosts a comfy queen bed made with quality linens, a down and or synthetic comforter, extra blankets for cold nights, a large closet and armoire. We have placed a smart TV in the armoire for watching TV under the covers. Adjacent to the bedroom is an office space with a tall mirror, extra dresser, desk, and sitting area.

There is one stocked bathroom with tub, shower, sink, and toilet. All you need to get ready for a night out downtown. A separate laundry room contains new, high quality, large capacity washer and dryer, as well as lots of room to hang clothes. Up the ladder is a comfortable loft for reading a book, taking a nap, or watching the sun drop behind the pines.
We have space for two vehicles in the large pull through driveway.
Due to the proximity to water we do not allow pets, or children under the age of 10.
Owners are on the same lot but not in the same dwelling.

Great River Retreat

The best family stay ever!

So clean, very modern..the sound of the River was constant as well as nature,; deer, bear, fox. We will always stay here when visiting Durango. The owners are amazing , personable and there to help and advise on adventures around the are.

Perfect nature retreat

Wonderful stay! Our home was lovely, the surroundings were lovely, and our host were the best we’ve could’ve asked for. We especially Enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and the bear cubs. Of course the hot chocolate chip cookies weren’t bad either. We had a wonderful stay and would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you so much for your hospitality.

Quiet, convenient, and beautiful

Beautiful scenic property and facilities. After meeting Cyndi and seeing the cabin, we knew we picked the right property. We felt right at home, it was really hard to leave at the end of our week. Quiet area if you want to relax, short drive to Durango with its many places to eat and things to do. >

Awesome location & host

Cyndi could not have been a more pleasant or accommodating hostess. Just enough distance from town for convenience, but still quiet and peaceful. Wonderful location and river. The rental was very nice, cozy and clean with everything one would need. Thank you for a great stay !

Couldn't ask for more!

This property was exactly what we were looking for. The rental was immaculately clean and everything we wanted. There are two chairs right next to the river that we enjoyed our wine from every evening. We like staying outside of Durango, and we were only about 10 minutes from town! Cyndi was very responsive to my text messages and a wonderful VRBO host. We will definitely stay here again!

River paradise

Beautiful property, in and out. Kitchen stocked with all we needed. Comfortable bed and even pullout couch was great. Easy trip to town. Owners on ground in case we needed anything, but you’d never know they were there. We’d come back in a heartbeat. Great bang for the buck.

Durango River Teyreat

We really enjoyed this stay. Property was clean and well stocked. Our hostess and her son were a delight. It was nice to come back to this quiet place at the end of the day and relax on the large deck. We really didn’t lack for a thing, and would love to come back!

Perfect Space

My fiancé and I stayed at Cyndi and Steve’s place for the week while we were in Durango. We were there for our wedding and the stay couldn’t have been better. We loved Cyndi and hope to come back soon. The Retreat was perfect for the two of us. Definitely a 10 out of 10 for every part of our stay at the Retreat.

Wonderful place in the country

The property owners were wonderful from the beginning of our stay to the last day. Steve brought us chocolate chip cookies when we arrived. The accommodations were perfect. We enjoyed our stay and hope to come back again. Kudos to Cyndi and Steve. They treated us like family. The accommodations were outstanding.

Great home and location

Great home for a stay in Durango!! It is located on the Florida River with a great view you can enjoy from the large porch. Home is exceptionally clean, and the kitchen is very well equipped! The location is a short ride into Durango as well as close to several reservoirs. The host is very welcoming and available for any questions or issues.

Wonderful

Location and home are beautiful, steps away from the river, quiet and serene. We wish our stay was longer! My two teenage daughters loved, our hosts even baked us cookies! Plenty to do in Durango too, we rode the Durango train to Silverton and river rafted on the animas river. Drove to telluride to do some off roading and had a race on Saturday in the San Juan mountains. Book here!

Absolutely Beautiful!

Durango River Retreat is amazing. The property, the river, the housing & our host are all beautiful. This is the very best VRBO I have visited out of at least ten different rentals. Cyndi is more than a super host. She wants your stay to be perfect and is very knowledgeable about the area. The bed is so comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked. The washer and dryer are full size, and the apartment is extremely clean with such beautiful views. I will be back. I highly recommend this VRBO. (The welcome cookies are also delicious.)

Mama Bear & Triplets

Hard to top Mama Bear & Triplets on the hillside across the river. Cyndi (owner lives next door) knocked on our door to alert us to the visit. The unit is complete with contemporary finishes, very clean & with huge windows to bring in the view. We enjoyed our stay very much & would return.

Awesome host family and awesome place to stay.

Very quite and peaceful. From the moment we pulled in the drive and went and sat by the stream we couldn't have ask for anything more. While we were enjoying the sound of the water and just the sounds of nature then Ryan (hosts son) came out with hot homemade cookies. This was a personal touch that most hosts don't have. Just wish we could have stayed another week.

Amazing

The property was absolutely beautiful and Cyndi and Steve were so welcoming!! The night we arrived, it was raining and Cyndi came out to greet us and offered to help us bring in our luggage. We turned that down but not the delicious chocolate chips cookies:) The accommodations were very comfortable- kitchen very well stocked, beds comfortable and the view and sound of the river were a true wonder!!! It was an easy drive to town where there were many great restaurants and fun shopping. AND don’t forget to take the train!! Cannot say enough as to how Cyndi and Steve’s friendliness, helpfulness and home were so appreciated.

A Little Slice of Paradise

We LOVED our time in Durango and staying at Cyndi & Steve's River Retreat was the icing on the cake! While we didn't get Ryan's homemade cookies upon our arrival (he was away at camp), Cyndi bought us cookies from Bread (definitely go there when you're here) instead! She is an amazing host and their rental has everything you need and MORE! Not only is the little apartment beautifully appointed and sparkling clean, but the sound of the river coming through the screened doors of the porch is heavenly. We can't imagine staying anywhere else in Durango and will recommend this property to anyone who asks, unless they want to come the same time we do! Next time we're here, we're staying longer! Thanks for a wonderful escape from the Texas heat!!

Incredible Location, hosts were even better!

My husband and I have stayed in several VRBO locations (some as far away as Croatia) and this was one of the VERY BEST!! I know several reviews have mentioned this, but receiving warm chocolate chip cookies from Ryan (the owners son) upon arrival really launched us into an AMAZING few days! Steve & Cyndi are clearly doing something right as parents to have fostered such character in their young son. Meeting Cyndi felt like reuniting with a sister! They are also doing something right with the presentation of their space. From the stunning views off of the back deck of the river and forest (so PEACEFUL while drinking coffee or having cocktails) to the impeccably decorated suite/kitchen/ bathroom. Literally EVERY NEED was met within this well stocked REFUGE. You will not be disappointed booking here and we can’t wait to return! Also, it was CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN

Great scenery and view

The location was nice, and the owners were friendly. We were very comfortable and it made us feel like we were at home. It was a sad moment when we had to leave. Definitely a great place to stay. Especially if you want to disconnect yourself and get back to the way life was before becoming so busy.

Luxury Mountain Paradise for Couples

Beautiful setting, beautifully decorated and designed loft with the peace we were looking for. Cyndi has done an excellent job of providing every detail you will need for a stay here. The kitchen is the best outfitted kitchen we have ever had with a VRBO. Lovely hosts and lovely family. Planning on coming back again.

We are a family of four that love the outdoors, wildlife and pets. I have lived here since 1995 while my wife has been here since 1989. We were both outdoor guides, exploring the area until we graduated from college here in the late 1990's. We fell in love with the area and decided to raise our kids here. We have lived on this property since it was purchased in 2015. When we bought it, it was definitely a fixer-upper. We have spent the last three years transforming it to the house you see today. We live in the main house but decided to let others share this beautiful part of Colorado with us in the Guest house. It is separate and just as quiet.

Why they chose this property

This property is our little slice or heaven. While we LOVE Durango, living downtown did not appeal to us. We wanted seclusion, privacy, a place to stretch out and enjoy the wind through the trees

There aren't many other properties where you can enjoy the river in such tranquility, privacy, and seclusion.
