About the host

Hosted by James Madden/Sandra Madden

Host profile image
The Madden family has a long history on this beautiful island archipelago! Two courageous young brothers immigrated from Ireland in the late 1800s and found their place as homesteaders here. They made their way, growing fruit, raising sheep, working the land. Flash forward three generations and here are two brothers again, who are proud to be able to hang on to one of the last segments of the family legacy.

John and his wife Sandra, Jimmy and his wife Annette welcome you to this paradise we hold dear.

Why they chose this property

Sitting at the waters edge, looking across the sound at Mount Baker, surrounded by bird song of the forest, seeing the ferries slide by as they rumble into port, you’d never guess you’re less than 5 minutes drive from the eclectic town site of Friday Harbor. One could literally sit on the deck all day and be fully entertained by the surrounding natural world, or venture out to explore all the island has to offer and come back to find paradise waiting for you. Turn out all the lights at night and look up to be bathed in an impossible sea of stars. In spring and summer watch or listen closely and you may spy a pod of orcas or a pair of grand humpback whales, right here at your doorstep. Spring brings wildflowers to the point; May is painted purple with Camus. Your island paradise is a blank slate for you to find what enchants you and make of it what you will! And we we so enjoy hearing your stories.

What makes this property unique

Our home is secluded, tucked into the coastal forest, perched on the waterfront with a gorgeous deck which stretches the entire length of the house, allowing ample deck space for both bedrooms and the main grand room. Two-story floor to ceiling windows open the grand room to a magnificent view of the ocean, surrounding islands, and Mount Baker. Our landscaping is hardy and natural, a perfect varied and diverse environment for the natural world around us to thrive. Those interested in culinary delights of the island can enjoy an abundance of herbs grown right here on our sundrenched patio. We take great care in maintaining this piece of paradise and are proud to share it with you.
