Birch Bay Beach Cabana - a tiny oasis close to everything at the Bay. Pets OK
Easy, Breezy & Carefree...small spaces make big smiles.
The Cabana is a short walk to the beach and a 10-minute drive to the US/Canada border. The location is convenient for everything this area has to offer. The space is simple, clean, and modern with amenities selected for your convenience. The unit features a 32" TV, electric fireplace, Keurig coffee maker, microwave, and a/c.
Please Note: while the Cabana does not have a washroom ensuite a full bathroom is just steps away in the main house. For some this is no problem as the washroom is close just not in the room. For others who get up to use the restroom at night this can be bothersome. We want you to enjoy your stay so please consider if this arrangement is right for you.
Spectacular views of the Bay, San Juan's & Vancouver Island are waiting for you on the back patio and the world-famous "C" Shoppe is just down the hill. Close to everything Birch Bay offers yet the Cabana is quiet, private, and secluded. A peekaboo view of the bay is available from inside the unit
The well-maintained grounds of the property are open to guests. You may use the back patio where you'll find a grill and fire pit. Sunsets and stargazing on the patio are a highlight.
We offer free bicycle rentals while staying with us. We also offer kayak and SUP rentals which are just $25/each per day including all your paddling gear and free drop off/pick up beachside. There's no better way to experience the bay than on the water and we make it easy. Just show up at the beach and leave the rest to us.
New in 2025! We can arrange for golf cart rentals during your stay. A clean, comfortable and FUN golf cart can be yours for the day or an evening to explore the area (Carts may only be driven in the Birch Bay Golf Cart Zone). These modern golf carts can carry 4, 6 or even 8 passengers. All are street legal and can be driven by anyone with a valid drivers license. It's one of the most fun ways to spend some time here. We bring the golf cart right to your doorstep and from there you are free to go explore, get a bite to eat, enjoy the state park or whatever sounds like fun. When you are done you can drop your cart right in front of the Cabana. Ask your host for more information on availability, cost or to book a Golf Cart during your stay!
Summer is filling up fast! Make your plans to come relax and unwind in beautiful Birch Bay. The sun is out and the Bay is busy with BBQ's, sandcastle building and old fashioned summertime fun. Enjoy the many community festivals, catch crab or dig for clams. Enjoy great food at a local restaurant or golf at one of our nearby award winning golf courses. Enjoy hiking, biking, or beachcombing. Visit a farmstand or try your luck at the Silver Reef Casino. Whatever you like to do there is something for everyone.

The space was clean and cozy. The bathroom situation was weird for sure. Always felt like I was intruding and there was always someone hanging out in the house when we went through the main space. This is a stay for extroverts for sure.
The owner made the check-in process easy. I got to the property late in the evening and the check in was easy. The cabana was clean and comfortable. The bathroom is in the main house right as you enter the house. Overall a great stay.
I really had a nice time at the Cabana! John was attentive to questions and needs, and the Cabana was comfy and cozy! Definitely will be an option for me next time I'm back home
We were very excited to stay here for a second time! Great price and quick walk to the beach. Sadly the sweet dog left us a poop in the shower. I sent the host a message hoping to get it cleaned up so we could use the shower but unfortunately we never got a response. Even after we checked out, we never even got an apology message or anything, which was very disappointing : (
My partner and I enjoyed this clean, well-decorated cabana. The shower was luxurious, the bed was soft, and host communications were thorough. A cozy space to spend a weekend in.

Thanks so much for staying Kayla. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit and hope to see you again!
A beautiful Cabana full of sunlight and fresh air. Air conditioning when needed! The Cabana was Walkable to the candy shop and coffee/ breakfast eatery. Views were breath taking, I spent my evening looking out, at the sunset over the bay! Charming and comfortable. John is a great host.
Nice place, clean, and I would rent again. Would’ve been nice to have a bathroom and running water in the unit instead of having to walking into the house.
Made every effort to make it a comfortable place to stay.

My first vrbo, host was accommodating, had a last minute change and was no problem, very clean, you do have to use the main house for bath facilities but easy acess, 2 minor things, there is only one out let for the refrigerator, microwave and Kuerig had to get down and plug in microwave to use, and small night table on both sides of the bed, other than that great time easy to get to, thanks John

About the host
Hosted by John Haslam
I'm originally from Seattle but I have lived full-time in Birch Bay since 2017. I have owned property here since 2001 and bought this place in 2011. I have been coming to the Bay my whole life. My grandparents owned a home here and this is where I spent my summers as a child. Today, I can't imagine living anywhere else. There's so many outdoor activities to engage in plus it has a small town atmosphere yet still close enough to several large cities so that you can always find something to do.
Why they chose this property
It chose me. I was riding down the road and saw a for sale sign and stopped and the then-current owner walked out and we started talking and the rest, as they say, is history.
I love this neighborhood because it's so peaceful and quiet and yet in a few short minutes you can be at the beach, on the water, across the border or run down to Bellingham. It is convenient to everything the area offers.
What makes this property unique
It's close to everything but still feels quiet and secluded. The evenings here are beautiful. Being so far north we are not in the shadow of the Olympic Mountain range so sunsets last forever, especially during the summertime. And after dark stargazing is spectacular. The property has a front row seat to natures endless parade of changes. From seabirds to orca whales to sea lions and winter storms the property never fails to deliver a first class view of Pacific NW nature in all it's diversity.
