Birch Bay Beach Cabana - a tiny oasis close to everything at the Bay. Pets OK
A small space in a great place!
The Cabana is a short walk to the beach and a 10-minute drive to the US/Canada border. The location is convenient for everything this area has to offer. The space is simple, clean, and modern with amenities selected for your convenience. The unit features a 32" TV, electric fireplace, Keurig coffee maker, microwave, and a/c.
Please Note: while the Cabana does not have a washroom ensuite a full bathroom is just steps away in the main house. The washroom is reserved for Cabana guests and accessible 24/7. For most guests this is not a problem as the washroom is close, just not in the room. For others (such as those who frequently use the bathroom at night) it can be less than ideal.
Over the years we've learned every guest has unique expectations and our #1 goal is to do our best to exceed your expectations. To do that we need to know what's important to you. It's for this reason we ask that you consider if not having a washroom ensuite is acceptable to you
Spectacular views of the Bay, San Juan's & Vancouver Island are waiting for you on the back patio and the world-famous "C" Shoppe is just down the hill. Close to everything Birch Bay offers yet the Cabana is quiet, private, and secluded. A peekaboo view of the bay is available from inside the unit
The well-maintained grounds of the property are open to guests. You may use the back patio where you'll find a grill and fire pit. Sunsets and stargazing on the patio are often a highlight for guests.
We offer free bicycle rentals while staying with us. We also offer kayak and SUP rentals which are just $25/each per day including all your paddling gear and free drop off/pick up beachside. There's no better way to experience the bay than on the water and we make it easy. Just show up at the beach and leave the rest to us.
NEW! We can arrange for golf cart rentals during your stay. A clean, comfortable and FUN golf cart can be yours for the day or just an evening to explore the area (Carts allowed in the Birch Bay Golf Cart Zone only). These deluxe, modern golf carts can carry 4, 6 or even 8 passengers and can be driven by anyone with a valid drivers license. It's one of the most fun ways to spend time here. We bring the golf cart right to your doorstep and from there you are free to go explore, get a bite to eat, enjoy the state park or whatever sounds good to you. When you are done you can drop your cart right in front of the Cabana. Ask your host for more information on availability, cost or to book a Golf Cart during your stay!
The Summer calendar is filling up fast! Make your plans to come relax and unwind in beautiful Birch Bay. The sun is out and the Bay is busy with BBQ's, sandcastle building and summertime family fun. Long summer days offer a chance to enjoy the many community events here or just kick back and watch the tide go in and out.
Maybe you want to catch crab or dig for clams? You could enjoy great local food, golf at one of the nearby award winning golf courses or take a hike through a coastal forest. Or perhaps visit a farmstand, the farmers market before getting pampered at a world class spa. Whether outdoors or in there is something for everyone here.
**PLEASE NOTE: While we do not charge any housekeeping fees there is a $35/stay fee for guests with pets (no additional charges for ADA-registered service animals per federal law). This covers dogs or cats (1 only - up to 50lbs) for up to a 5 night stay. Longer pet stays are accepted though additional charges apply for stays longer than 5 days. Please contact us for details.
***PLEASE ALSO NOTE: If you are traveling with a pet please check the box to indicate this on your reservation at the time of booking (or by changing your reservation after booking). A message is also very helpful. If we are unaware in advance that you are traveling with a pet it can (and almost always will) cause a delay in your check-in. In rare instances if we are not aware in advance we may be unable to accomodate your pet. Informing us in advance avoids delays or complications during check in.

Hi Sharon - We appreciate you staying with us and for you leaving a review. However we are puzzled by your comment that the washroom was "open to the whole home". The washroom we provide guests is private, There are four walls, a lockable door and not "open" in any way. You clearly found something not to your liking and we regret that was the case. But we would never think of offering guests (or ourselves) anything short of complete privacy in a washroom.
Property was as advertised. The shared bathroom was as advertised, but a little inconvenient. The mattress could be a little better. But overall the property was clean and priced reasonably, and the host was very responsive to address and issues we had.
Such a cozy Cabana. Everything was neat and tidy and super comfortable. John got back to us within minutes of any questions and even recommended a great spot for dinner when I asked. Bathroom was no issue whatsoever. It was available for us anytime day or night. We will definitely be back!!
Our stay was a short one but it was wonderful! The space was so nice, clean and cozy. Plenty of room for what we needed.Communication was top notch!

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in
Disliked: Communication, location
The room where we stayed was very small. We had access to main building with the bathroom, living room and backyard. But we didnt have access to the kitchen which was inconvenient. Backyard had a gorgeous view of the ocean. Host was nice but communication was hard through messaging because they weren't responsive at all. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but i wish I had booked a hotel with the same price and a better location.

Hi Sara-I appreciate you leaving your thoughts. I'm sorry for any confusion but we don't offer access to the kitchen. I apologize as well if communication didn't meet your needs. I only received one message during your stay and I responded shortly after I received it. I completely understand your comment about choosing a hotel. It's really about choices; what we offer is a budget friendly option - we are often the lowest cost per night in the area. Hotel rooms in our market are 2x-3x our rate. We're committed to keeping rates low and still offering good value. We don't try to compete with a full-service hotel - we're an alternative. Thanks again for your comment and for staying with us.
This was a nice one-night stop over on a trip that got us in late and had us leaving super early. We were a bit surprised to find the bathroom separate from the cottage where we were staying and thought that might have been better explained in the listing. It ended up being just fine after we got over being uncomfortable entering the main house to use the bathroom. The room gets super toasty with the wall heater and we enjoyed coffee in the morning that was left for us. It was easy to get up and out the next day and back on the road to our next destination. We slept well in the comfy bed!

Disliked: Check-in, communication, location
We arranged an early check on. This is the reason I booked the property, as we had a wedding to attend and needed to dress and change prior. We arrived at the scheduled time. We messages and tried to contact the host many times and in different ways. Zero communication. Zero check in until the automated message far later. Parking was blocked. Altogether not what I booked the place for and will be seeking a partial refund. We had to bargain with a local restaurant to change in. Awful experience.
Cute little cabana. The grounds were very clean and beautiful. There is a water fountain out front that is visited by all kinds of birds. It was enjoyable watching them through the double glass doors of the cabana. The listing is accurate in what is included. Everything was neat and clean and a quick walk to the bay. It's the perfect size for 1 to 2 people. I really appreciated that they accommodated me and my two small dogs. The area is pretty eclectic. A mixture of fancy beach homes and generational properties. I felt safe walking my dogs and it was refreshing having so many people smile and say or wave hello.I'll visit the area again and will not hesitate to stay at the cabana.

Thank you for your review. We enjoyed hosting you.
The room and bed was clean. But the owners dog pooped in the shower one night and peed on the bathroom rug the next. It would also be nice if it mentioned the bathroom and shower was inside of the main house, not in the cabin.
The space was clean and cozy. The bathroom situation was weird for sure. Always felt like I was intruding and there was always someone hanging out in the house when we went through the main space. This is a stay for extroverts for sure.
I'm originally from Seattle but have been coming to Birch Bay since I was a kid. I spent my summers here with my Grandparents playing on the beach. I bought my own place in Birch Bay in 2001 because I wanted to give my kids the same experience. I bought this place in 2011 and after major renovations in 2017 made Birch Bay my full-time residence ever since. Today, I can't imagine living anywhere else. There are so many outdoor activities to enjoy plus it has that small town atmosphere I love yet it's still close to several large cities so that you can always find something to do.
I enjoy it when guests ask about places to go and things to do. It's fun to share a some of the things that make living here unique with visitors. The most rewarding part of hosting is when I can suggest to my guests a place to eat or something to do that they truly enjoy and would not have otherwise known about.
Why they chose this property
It chose me. I was riding down the road and saw a for sale sign and stopped and the then-current owner walked out and we started talking and the rest, as they say, is history.
I love this neighborhood because it's so peaceful and quiet and yet in a few short minutes you can be at the beach, on the water, across the border or run down to Bellingham. It is convenient to everything the area offers.
What makes this property unique
It's close to everything but still feels quiet and secluded. The evenings here are beautiful. Being so far north we are not in the shadow of the Olympic Mountain range so sunsets last forever, especially during the summertime. And after dark stargazing is spectacular. The property has a front row seat to natures endless parade of changes. From seabirds to orca whales to sea lions and winter storms the property never fails to deliver a first class view of Pacific NW nature in all it's diversity.
