About this property

1 of a kind

From the front patio, composed of historic downtown sidewalk slabs featuring grids of purple pavement prisms dating back to 1920s to the front doors preserved from the Seafarer restaurant or the grates from the old Astor Hotel, you cannot help feel transported back in time in our space.  This getaway nestled in the underground features an eclectic collection of signage and relics quintessential to experiencing the Astoria of the past. The nine foot church door framing the master bedroom, net racks from a local cannery, and signage from locations including the Peter Pan Market and Union Town Steam Baths are a few of the historic details you’ll notice throughout the property. Located on the edge of the Columbia River just inland from the ‘Graveyard of the Pacific’ we even boast a porthole from a ship and infamous origins. While these details will delight your senses, you will also have visual access to the underground tunnels through the windows in each bedroom and we invite each occupant to enjoy an Astoria Underground tour as part of their stay.

Get ready to stay in the Astoria Wunderground.
Hidden beneath the historic streets of Astoria you will experience a one-of-a-kind stay surrounded by the stories and artifacts of this remarkable river town. Created by Jeff Daly, the founder of the Astoria Underground Tours, this immersive space blends comfort, history, and character.

Guests are invited to experience Astoria from a completely different perspective—literally beneath the sidewalks of downtown. The Wunderground comfortably hosts up to four guests and features two bedrooms, one and a half baths, a full kitchen, and a cozy living room with fireplace, smart TV and sound system.
A luxurious steam and rain shower adds a spa-like touch after a day exploring the coast. What truly sets the space apart is the atmosphere. Throughout the rooms you’ll find carefully curated relics from Astoria’s past—historic signage and architectural pieces salvaged from long-loved local buildings. Even the entrance tells a story, with preserved doors from the Seafare Restaurant welcoming you into a space where history lives. Even the patio tells a story, built from historic sidewalk slabs with purple pavement prisms that once lit the underground.

Warm, eclectic, and unforgettable, the Astoria Wunderground is more than a place to stay—it’s an experience perfect for travelers seeking something truly unique or locals looking for a memorable staycation in Astoria’s historic downtown.

What makes this property unique

Let me share a recent guests review.
It is difficult to fully convey the extremely unique quality of Jeff's "Wunderground Experience". We've been avid AirBnb'rs for several years and have many great memories and stories about where we've stayed. But this one was by far THE most unique stays we've ever had! The space Jeff and friends have created is clearly a labor of love. So many repurposed items directly tied to Astoria's history are thoughtfully placed EVERYWHERE! Not to mention its location UNDERGROUND beneath a parking lot with windows peering into the incredibly interesting tunnels underneath much of the city! When we first arrived and punched the numbers on the door lock, it took us at least 30-45mins to fully absorb the atmosphere. Nostalgia everywhere! The entry doors we're obtained from a town pub of long ago! A barber's chair in one of the bedrooms clearly has seated many THOUSANDS of people and it clearly shows it! But then, that's the charm of it all...serious local history is depicted throughout! And if all this were not enough, Jeff and 2 hilarious cohorts provided an escorted tour through a section of Astoria's underground tunnels. They were SO funny as they educated us about a town initially established in the late 1800's. We were not only entertained but were fascinated by their historical (and often hysterical) stories! The nightly rate w/fees is not for the faint of the heart or the budget minded. The experience for US however...priceless!
