Difficult to find off of the main road, but once we found it it was a great location for us. We walked 8 minutes down the beach every morning and evening to play volleyball at the courts. This was super special for our group. The house is Next door to Pengas beach club, the best restaurant in town!!!! Nearly every morning the howler Monkeys made their way through our back yard around 630 am !!! That was the coolest experience. The only complaints we have are the smells of the kitchen, which is veryyyyy small and was not ideal to be in. The water pressure is very low, and the close proximity to the main road can keep you up at night because of how loud it is when trucks drive by. Overall it’s a fair price and great location in tamarindo.

Piece of heaven on earth

The views and gardens of the property were amazing, the access to the beach and the river were great and we have so much fun in a quiet spaces sharing with nature. If somebody like Thai cooking there is a tree of kefir lime on the property. They took care of us getting kayaks ready, fire pit and wood ready and we enjoy all this property has to offer, we are planning on making this a regular stop on our future visits

Wonderful family gathering

This was the perfect place for 6 days with family of all ages. The house, the grounds, the beach, the town, the estuary were both relaxing and fun.

Awesome spot!

We made plans to come down for a long weekend with friends and Tamarindo did not disappoint. The only set plans we made was the Vrbo reservation and a fishing charter for one day. Toni met us at the house and showed us around. The views are incredible from the backyard. On the first day we took an estuary charter with some of the locals that are around the corner. Everything you need is right there. We chose to walk everywhere but you could very easily rent a golf cart or car. We will definitely be coming back!

La Choza del Estero - a lovely spot to experience Costa Rica

Our group of 11 had a wonderful stay. Mary and her family were excellent hosts responding quickly to every request. The house has beautiful grounds and a quiet beach out front near the estuary that includes a beautiful spot to watch the sunset. You are also just a few minutes walk from all the action on the beach along with local bars and restaurants. We would definitely stay here on our next trip to Costa Rica!

Family reunion

Our family of 11 stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. The house is close to town with easy access to the beach, restaurants and shopping. We rented a car but didn’t need it because everything was so convenient. The manager was exceptionally helpful and quick to answer our questions and help with tours and places to visit. They truly wanted our visit to be enjoyable and it was!

Tamarindo property

The property was wonderful and Mary and her family were very accommodating. The house was perfect for my family. All five of us had our own room and bathroom. The property was a large beautiful property next to the beach. You can walk down the beach to the town and all of the activities in Tamarindo. We were visited by about a dozen howler monkeys one day. Absolutely loved our stay here.

Best vacation ever!

We spent the week between Christmas and New Years at the La Choza del Estero. Miguel and his staff were amazing and not only hosts but also became friends. They kept the place clean, prepared the outdoor living at night with fires in the outdoor circle as well as on the beach. They were also helpful in assisting us with questions and planning. The house was laid out perfectly for our group of kids and adults. Being in such a beautiful place there was so much to do right out the back gate on the estuary/beach! It was perfect! We can't recommend this place enough! We will definitely be back!

Location!

This is an amazing property in the perfect location. The garden that surrounds the house is so beautiful and you are literally right on the beach within walking distance of dozens of restaurants and shops. We saw (and heard) howler monkeys right in the backyard. If you’re staying over a Saturday there is a charming open market in town. We can’t recommend this property enough. I will say we have three older kids - there is no indoor common area - which was fine for us as we spent all of our time outdoors. But each room is an individual room with a separate locked door - which might be a challenge for families with younger children. That being said we would stay at this property anytime we returned to Tamarindo. Toni was amazing to work with and helped us book activities. The horseback riding she booked for us arrived with the horses on the beach outside the gate to the property. Pretty magical experience. We are so thankful! Pura Vida.

Paradise in Costa Rica

Amazing property with amazing hosts. We loved our stay. The house was roomy and clean with amazing grounds to hang out on. The estuary is located right in front of the house and access to the beach was right there. I would go for a run and enjoy coffee watching the boats. We had several fires and enjoyed cooking on the bbq. Miguel was an amazing host and was always there for us to answer any questions. The kids loved seeing the iguanas, monkeys and hermit crabs. We took kayaks several times down the river. Each room had air conditioning and a tv. The wifi was super fast. Watching the sunset on tje beach was amazing. Outside was literally so beautiful with an outdoor firepit with chairs, a great place to have dinner, and hammocks. I can't say enough about this place and the memories we made

Beautiful resort-like property close to everything

We were struck by the beauty of the outdoor spaces at La Choza del Estero. All of the seating areas were very welcoming - all 10 members of my family loved congregating under the pagoda or on the adirondack chairs that surround the fire pit. We were able to watch the howler monkeys and the iguanas climb the trees in the garden - it was so relaxing and entertaining! The bedrooms were very comfortable. We all slept very well and enjoyed the coolness that the AC provided when a short reprieve from the midday heat was in order. The housekeeper was available nearly every day with clean towels, trash removal and laundry services if desired. We took advantage of that service on two different days. The hosts were also exceedingly responsive to our suggestions. We suggested the addition of some kitchen items and, to our surprise, the host acquired many of those items the next day. It is easy to walk to everything that Tamarindo has to offer from this house. We had initially considered renting a golf cart but it really wasn't necessary and I'm glad we didn't. There are plenty of small shops and cafes to see and stop in if you're on foot. Conversely, walking on the beach is always an amazing option.... Thank you Mary and Miguel!

Wonderful Rustic Tama Villa

Loved it! If you are looking for something the opposite of a resort, this is it. The backyard garden is amazing. Views up the river and of the rivermouth and ocean. Lots of trees and a well maintained garden. We had monkeys in the yard most days, as well as iguana, parakeets, green parrots and other birds. Sitting in the yard in the morning was my favorite part of the stay. It is an easy walk along the beach to all the great restaurants. Host was responsive. Housekeeping twice during week. What you need to know before you rent this place:- There is only AC in the bedrooms, not in the common areas/kitchen.- The kitchen is small, ceiling is low, had to duck under beams in the kitchen. No AC in kitchen, foods on counter spoil fast. If you are a group that likes to cook meals where you stay, this may not be the place.-The house sits just off the main road coming into Tama and the truck noise in the morning is very loud. Some rooms were worse than others.- One room had a family of small land crabs living in a bathroom. They don't bother you, but can surprise you when you enter.- Wildlife in the backyard means wildlife excrement. Monkeys in trees above you may deficate or urinate. We had monkey crap on our car several days and almost got bombed a couple of times sitting around the firepit.- The family that owns the house lives on the adjacent property and they use the driveway/gate. They were nice, no issues.I will return. The Costa Rica experience I wanted!

Paradise!

What a beautiful property, wonderful family, and attentive hosts! This was our first time using VRBO and it did not disappoint. This was a new listing when we first booked the property. The hosts always were in communication with us and made us feel very secure with our decision to book. I cannot say enough about our stay at La Choza Del Estero which we stayed from July 25th to August 1st. Our seven days could not have been more perfect. We had the pleasure of meeting Mary, Miguel, Travis, and Victoria. They were very attentive, addressed our questions, and made us feel at home and part of the family. We have been to Costa Rica many times before but has been about 40 years since our last visit. We mentioned the delicious banana wrapped tamales that we remembered as kids….they brought some to us. It was exactly how we remembered them and it brought back those cherished memories. How awesome is that? They property is gorgeous and the rooms are beautiful. They were decorated perfectly and were very inviting with added touches in each! Each room had an air conditioner unit which were so thankful because it was not always available in other properties. The grounds were beautiful and we loved all the areas we could hangout with our family and take in the scenery. Outdoors is where we love to be. The estuary was right there and a short walk to a really close restaurant that was located just steps from the property. I suggest to take a boat tour of the estuary, it was fantastic and we loved every minute. Shops, restaurants, and grocery stores are really close to the property and most are in walking distance that we took advantage of. The sunsets were unbelievable and breathtaking. Miguel was so nice and set up the fire pit for us in different locations each night. The outdoor lighten was so nice and inviting. Shout out to there wonderful staff that made sure the grounds were impeccable, the house was clean, and our grounds were secure. We would not hesitated to stay at their property again. It was such a pleasant, relaxing, and fulfilling experience. They truly gave us the VIP treatment and what a wonderful experience we will never forget. You need to consider booking this property for your next visit to Tamarindo! Thank you La Choza Del Estero and staff for everything you did, making our experience so memorable and something we will never forget.

A beachfront adventure

I stayed at La Choza with ten other friends for a short four nights, and we wish it were longer! Leading the charge for activities for ten adults can be daunting, but Rachel took care of literally everything. She made every aspect of planning seamless (and affordable). We seemed to get lucky with the weather and were able to enjoy the fire pit set up and lit by Miguel, who is so kind. The rooms were clean and comfy. We even came home to some towel animals left on our beds one day which was a nice touch. I will say, the Ocean Room had quite a bit of an ant issue, but I was given plenty of Raid and I think they filled in some gaps in the baseboards and it worked like a charm. Rainy season brings out the bugs, for sure. All in all, I cannot recommend this home enough. The price for the location alone is wondeful. Pair that with wonderful hosts and a beautiful home and it’s a no-brainer! If I can return to Tamarindo, I will certainly be staying here.
