About this property
Blocks from Purdue, Ross-Ade, Mackey, Samara House, Birck Golf Complex
Hello Guest(s)! Welcome to 1515 Northwestern Ave., West Lafayette, Indiana 47906. We are so glad you decided to stay here. We hope you have a great time in West Lafayette, Indiana.
We are happy to share this special getaway with you. You are two blocks from Ross-Ade stadium, four blocks from Mackey Arena, and the rest of Purdue campus is accessible. City bus service is available every half hour along Northwestern Ave. The West Lafayette Parks Recreation and Trail Map shows some fantastic parks, trails, and footpaths available in the neighborhood. My favorite is the Celery Bog Nature Area/Lilly Nature Center. There is an area to sit and watch nature. Animals come to the area and you can observe animals in their natural habitat.
You'll enjoy walking into this private home. Hopefully the home will help you enjoy your stay with all its amenities. Walk into the expansive living room with an adjacent sun room with a foosball table and three full walls of windows that look out to a landscaped patio and surrounding mature trees. The living room features: A pull out queen size sleeper sofa, a 40" flat screen TV with Roku, shelves of games and black out curtains. The living room opens up into a dining room, where you can enjoy dinner cooked at home, or delivered from one of our many nearby restaurants. The dining room features: a dining table with seating for 8 people. The big open fully equipped kitchen features: everything you need to cook meals at home. Rounding out the first floor are stairs and a convenience half bathroom. One set of stairs lead up to the bedrooms and full bathroom. After a busy day, soak in the blue tiled bathtub enclosure and sleep in any one of the four quiet and restful bedrooms. Each bed offers: queen and twin size memory foam mattresses, eco friendly bamboo sheets, and blackout curtains. The other set of stairs down lead to the basement which has an air hockey table.
During your stay you will appreciate that you are less than a mile from each of the following: Purdue campus, Ross-Ade Stadium, Mackey Arena, Birck Golf Complex, Folk Field and Boilermaker Soccer Complex, Schwartz Tennis Center, Alexander Field, Celery Bog Nature Area, Faith West including Cafe Literato and community playground, Happy Hollow Park, and West Lafayette downtown full of restaurants, bars, and attractions.
Please keep in mind that 1515 Northwestern Avenue was built in 1938. While not a historic house, you may not find as many electrical outlets as in a modern home. The HVAC vents are in the floor or adjacent to the floor. You can easily lose coins, keys, etc. to a vent if not careful. The fireplace is currently not available until all renovations are completed. Most of the windows have sash pulleys and weights, some of the ropes are broken and will need to be replaced. We ask that any window is carefully opened or closed.
Also the City of West Lafayette has rental housing occupancy limits of either (1) one family and no more than two unrelated guests or (2) no more than three unrelated guests. The City requires submission of an Occupancy Affidavit stating the names and relationships of each guest. Please complete both the rental agreement and the West Lafayette Occupancy Affidavit when booking your stay.
You should find everything that you need, but if you have a question that isn't covered in here, please do get in touch and let me know how I can help. We hope you enjoy yourself and visit again in the future!
Upon arrival, we would love to know what you initially think of the place. We would like to know if you experience any issues during your stay. We would love the opportunity to address any issues prior to the end of your booking.
Sincerely,
Cedric & Zandra D'Hue

About the host
Hosted by Cedric Axel D'Hue
1515 Northwestern Avenue boasts 4 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, beautiful hardwood floors throughout the house and wonderful location to several amenities. We clearly envisioned 1515 Northwestern Avenue as a short term vacation rental for Purdue football or other sport games, golfers, even Frank Lloyd Wright enthusiasts.
Furthermore, 1515 Northwestern Avenue provided a unique opportunity to purchase a nearly century old home. We seek to update this home into a modern home while keeping or restoring the 1930s character, such as the many interior window shutters. Most of the windows have sash pulleys and weights, some of the ropes are broken and will need to be replaced. We ask that any window is carefully opened or closed until the sash pulleys, weights, and ropes can be restored/repaired.
The home inspection report identified a number of issues to address, including plumbing, windows, siding, etc. The fireplace is currently not available until all of the renovations are completed.
The living room is relatively quiet. The East Bedroom can be noisy due to the busy street outside. If you are an early riser and out of the house most of the day, this is unlikely to be a problem.
Turning this 1938 house into a modern home provides our family a number of opportunities for our children to get involved in the short term rental business and home renovations. So far our children have been involved in opening boxes, putting away house supplies, building furniture, and making up beds. They have also assisted with parking cars during home Purdue football games and selling lemonade, chips, Cub Scout popcorn, etc. During renovations, we hope to teach our children the systems of the house: electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
We welcome you to join us on this journey. We hope you as guests will return over time to see the transformation of this house. Your booking revenue is funding the renovations. Thank you!

Why they chose this property
We read The Family Board Meeting and realized that we only have 18 summers with our kids, currently 11, 11, 9, and 7 years old. One of our 11 year old twins has a God given talent for hospitality. Our 9 year old daughter is a natural entrepreneur. We already have a few long term rentals. We were looking for opportunities to incorporate our rental businesses with teaching our children new talents. Similar to Cleaning House, we sought to cultivate our children's gifts and talents in entrepreneurship.
After staying in a few short term vacation rentals, we were interested in incorporating short term vacation rentals into teaching our children in the way they should go.
The Blue House (1515 Northwestern Avenue) is quite a find. The Blue House was built in 1938 (before the nearby Frank Lloyd Wright Samara House). The Blue House is two blocks from Ross-Ade stadium, four blocks from Mackey Arena, and near the rest of Purdue campus.
We are looking forward to the opportunity to restore this house over time. There is only one full bathroom.
