Silver Mountain Cabins #3 (King Bed, sleeps 5)

A Cozy Forest Retreat for Families, Friends & Outdoor Enthusiasts

Create lasting memories at this peaceful and family-friendly getaway in the heart of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Nestled within the Ottawa National Forest and near the scenic Keweenaw Peninsula, Silver Mountain Cabins offer a perfect escape for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. Just 28 miles from Michigan Tech and 10 miles from Lake Superior, you’ll be close to hiking, fishing, snowmobiling, rockhounding, and some of the region’s premier hunting grounds. We're located just down the road from Silver Mountain and the breathtaking Sturgeon River Falls.

Each stay includes a thoughtfully curated welcome book with recommendations for local hiking trails, outdoor adventures, and must-see attractions to help you make the most of your visit.

Your Private Cabin Experience

This cozy, standalone cabin is fully yours to enjoy. The main level features one bathroom and a bedroom with two twin beds, while the loft offers a spacious king bed and an additional twin — comfortably sleeping up to five guests.

We’ve recently upgraded all mattresses and bedding to ensure a restful and refreshing night’s sleep. The dining area seats four to six, and the living space comfortably accommodates three. Step outside the back door to your own private fire pit, perfect for cozy evenings under the stars.

Space to Roam & Room to Relax

Set on 22 acres of serene woodlands, the cabin is part of a larger property that includes two other guest cabins and one private cabin. Guests are invited to explore the entire property, which backs up to the Ottawa National Forest and includes:

  • A shared grill and picnic area

  • A peaceful orchard and garden

  • Private trails through the forest and around the grounds

There’s plenty of room to stretch out, unwind, and take in the natural beauty all around you.

Remote Work Ready — With Nature at Your Door

While cell service in the area may be limited, each cabin is equipped with dedicated fiber-optic internet, its own private router, and secure WiFi — perfect for remote work, video calls, or streaming your favorite shows on the two Roku TVs provided. You’ll also find a variety of books and games for relaxing downtime.

Embrace the Outdoors — Bugs and All

Nature lovers will appreciate the tranquil surroundings and spectacular night skies—some of the clearest star views in the region. Do keep in mind that we are truly immersed in nature, so occasional encounters with mosquitoes, flies, and even ladybugs are part of the experience. We regularly treat the cabins and offer additional bug spray or mid-stay service if needed to ensure your comfort.

We also have free-range chickens on the property, and when available, we love providing guests with fresh eggs. Want to say hello to the chickens? Just ask — we’re happy to introduce you!

House Rules

No smoking or vaping within the cabin or within 20 feet of any cabin.

Up to two dogs are allowed, with advance notice and with the payment of a $75/visit pet fee.  Dogs must be cleaned up after and guests are responsible for any damage that their dogs may cause.  Service animals are welcome, but may not be left unattended at any time.

All guests must be registered and disclosed at booking. If you need to add additional guests before your arrival, please contact us so that we can adjust your reservation.

Any eligible refunds are processed per the cancellation policy, less any fees paid to the platform or incurred in processing the payment and refund. We can only refund the portion of fees we receive after these costs are calculated.

We are located directly on Silver Mountain Road (Forest Service Road 2270), providing immediate access to UTV/ATV trails and nearby connections to Snowmobile Trail #12 and #109. Ride straight from the driveway into miles of designated trail systems—ideal for outdoor enthusiasts year-round.

Our family is originally from Minnesota. We fell in love with the U.P. and moved up here permanently in 2021. You can oftentimes find one of us walking around or doing a job on the property. You are welcome to engage with us as little or as much as you like. If you need anything while on property you are welcome to knock on our door or message us through the VRBO app.

Why they chose this property

Silver Mountain Cabins is a working homestead located in the Ottawa National Forest. Our property is a unique retreat away from the traditional city distractions. We offer wifi and smart tv in each cabin, with plenty of outdoor space to engage with nature. There are two rental cabins as well as our home on the property, and there is a shared fire pit, grill and picnic area for guests to utilize. Each cabin has a private fire pit and seating area in addition to the shared spaces. You are welcome to explore the expansive gardens, visit the chickens, or take a hike through our 22 acres of woods to forage for mushrooms or other native vegetation.

What makes this property unique

While we are a bit off the beaten path, there are many activities to participate in year-round. Winter offers some of the best snowmobiling in the country and there is direct access from our road to the UP trail system. There are also great opportunities for snowshoeing and off-trail cross country skiing. Spring is prime time for maple syruping, fishing and rock hounding. As Lake Superiors shorelines melt they leave a new crop of interesting and unique rocks for the rock lovers out there. Summer is full of opportunities for everyone, with berry picking starting early June and going through August. There are excellent hiking, kayaking and canoeing spots for day trips as well as fishing, and opportunities for more adventurous water sports on Lake Superior, a short drive away. A local favorite rock climbing spot at Silver Mountain is right down the road, with beautiful views of the entire area. Fall leads into our amazing fall color runs as well as the kickoff to our Northern Lights season, which is more prevalent in our fall through early spring months. Any time of the year, we have some of the most amazing sky views in the world (we may be biased).
