About this property

Magical Black Hills. Don't Stay in Just Any House. Stay in a True Log Home!

Make my home your home for your get away, and enjoy relaxation and time together. The outdoors off my back deck, the trails nearby, and ribbons of paved black top are your gateway to the Black Hills.

Looking for someplace to call home when getting away from it all? Old No. 7 Place has everything you need for a weekend getaway, family vacation, or adventure-filled holiday. We are just minutes from all of the Northern Hills attractions.

As you wind up my private drive you will cast your eyes on my 5-bedroom 5-bath true log home nestled among the pine and the aspen. All linens and paper goods are supplied - simply pack your toiletries and groceries and let me take care of the rest. the warm, dry basement is even stocked with cut firewood for the 2 wood burning fireplaces.

The MAIN LEVEL features an impressive great room spotlighting an inviting wood burning fireplace and a 30’ wall of windows overlooking the Black Hills National Forest. You will love cooking and laughing with your entire group in our kitchen. There’s room for everyone in our spacious, well-equipped kitchen - you won’t want for anything. The dining room will seat all 14 of you at once so you can enjoy your meals together. A window seat provides extra dining room seating, a place to enjoy a beverage while overlooking the forest , or reading a book. The tile floors are also heated. The master suite is its own getaway with a king sized Sleep Number bed, another wood fireplace, large walk-in double shower and soaking tub with a view. You also have direct access to the hot tub. There’s a laundry / mud room to store all of your "stuff" and keep it out of sight during your stay. A powder room is convenient for all guests. For those who don't do stairs, we have all amenities on one level. Relax in the seclusion of my log home, taking in the serene wilderness as you hear the wind whistle through the trees or laze before the wall of windows taking pleasure in a crackling wood fire.

The UPPER LEVEL has 2 more bedrooms with a shared bath. There is a lot of flexibility in sleeping arrangements in case Mom & Dad need to be near little ones - one room is a queen bed and the other has 2 XL twin beds that can convert to a king bed. The loft boasts so much space with a reading spot, a game table and a TV room with more games, movies and books. There’s an additional powder room for the loft area that works great if the full bath on that floor is occupied. Fun, fun, fun is the name of the game up here.

The pride and joy of the LOWER LEVEL is the log bunk room! With two built-in bunks holding 2 twin beds each and a double bed connected to them it is the most unique room of my home. What a great hideout for the kids (BIG OR SMALL) on your trip, or maybe a retreat for the single people in your group. Another bedroom with a queen sized bed shares a full bath with a double vanity. For movie enthusiasts, there is a big screen TV with home theater in the family room. Not your typical cold basement, the entire lower level has heated floors in the colder months.

The spacious deck, spanning the entire length of my home, is perfect for entertaining day or night. Soak in the hot tub while enjoying a cup of morning coffee while you watch the sun crest the mountaintop horizon or after of day of adventures. And ohhh, the STARS, you've never seen so many stars at night. Host your summer outdoor meals while overlooking the vast scenery in which our home is located. I’m sure you’ll catch a glimpse of some wildlife any time of year.

Perfect cabin for a friends get away

This cabin was the perfect getaway for our group of friends - close to Terry Peak for some of us to go skiing and a short drive from Deadwood where we enjoyed spending a little time also. We enjoyed lots of time at the cabin playing games, enjoying the warmth of the fire place and making meals.

Family Getaway

We were looking for a vaca with our grown children. We consider Deadwood our happy place and make frequent trips to the area but had never considered this option. We loved having a spot we could just relax and enjoy the view. The cabin was beautiful and we have decided that we have created a new family tradition. Thank you for such a wonderful weekend.

Great time - again!

This is the 2nd rime we have stayed here because it works so well for our big family. The kids LOVE the sleeping quarters downstairs!!! The kitchen allows several people to be working at the same time. The open stairway is an awesome setting for family photos. Overall this is an excellent vacation home!! Thanks again, Jennifer!

This was a great pick for our sibling reunion!

Eight adults from various parts of the country had a wonderful four-day stay here. We especially wanted a good kitchen and a dining table big enough for family dinners — and that’s what we got! When the nights turned cool, we also had the pleasure of wood fires in the fireplace while we visited in the inviting and comfortable living room. The house is well-located for exploring and touring the Hills during the day, but we were also happy to tuck in “at home” each evening. Jennifer was great to work with and provided helpful information. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

Awesome

Beautiful view. Nice layout. Plenty of room for 14 family members. Fast response from owners on 2 issues. Wish there would have been yard to play outdoor games. Grass was too long. Overall, loved sitting outside on the balcony watching the deer and birds in the morning and in the evening. Thank you for having us.

Oct fun in Deadwood

We had a great time for 3 night stay. 3 families and each had their own floor living space and plenty of group areas for large get to-gethers. House very clean and just as pictured. We saw deer twice or more a day and stars out enough to gaze and also see Saturn with my grandson's telescope!. Had a few questions while on site and texted Jennifer who answered promptly and was very helpful. Would recommend highly. Kitchen huge and plenty of equipment. I am used to well water for drinking but wasn't sure about my grand-kids. However the water tasted better than you can buy in bottles so no problem there! Heated floors fun as none of us had ever had them. Indoor fireplace was used every night. Will stay again sometime hopefully.

We were in town with a couple other families for the Mickelson Trail Marathon and had a great time staying at Jason's cabin. This is the 5th year we have been in town for this weekend and this is the best place we have stayed. The cabin was more than big enough for the 12 people we brought along, there was a big kitchen we could cook anything in, and we did, a BBQ for a cookout and a hot tub we could relax in while we all recovered from the race. There was a big dining room table that we could all sit at for dinner and game playing, which he also supplied alot of if you don't bring yourself. There is plenty of parking and a large garage. Honestly, Jason seems to have all the big things and most of the little things covered to make any trip to the Black Hills a good time. Good location south of Lead, within an hour of just about anything you want to do in the area. We saw Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and climbed Black Elk Peak(again). We will be back.

Luxurious yet comfortable and welcoming.

We held our family reunion at the old number seven Lodge. It was perfect for gathering a group of people together. The great room with plenty of eating area - then upstairs with two bedrooms there was a game room that we took full advantage of and toys for the kids. In the basement a comfortable TV room with more bedrooms with bunks the kids loved and finally the master bedroom upstairs was very luxurious. We enjoyed the hot tub on the deck and hiked around of the woods. It’s very private. We will definitely visit this gorgeous home again. Jason was so easy to work with and helpful.

Our favorite place to go!

This is the second time we have visited Old No. 7 and we are already planning a third! This cabin as more than enough space for our two families getting together and is in such a quiet and pristine area. It has all the space and the amenities we need for a fantastic getaway. We have stayed in numerous VRBO's and other rentals over the years and this is hands down still our favorite! Jason is easy to work with and we look forward to a return visit.

I've lived in South Dakota all of my life and grew to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Black Hills. The kids don't remember us NOT coming here. Since 1990, I've been attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and vacationing in the area other times of the year.

As time went on and families grew we started renting a big house and bringing 2 or 3 other families, with all their kids, along with us. The grown-ups got bedrooms with beds, the kids got what was left over. Those were some of the BEST vacations we've taken.

My home was 3 years in the planning stages, and it took over a year to build. In the design process, I kept trying to make the house smaller, but I kept coming back to what fun it is to have a gathering place, all under one roof.

Today: the kids want to bring friends along with us for the weekends. We also have lots of families that we've shared the Black Hills with, and why shouldn't they come and stay with us in our home? All three children now travel with friends to show off Old No. 7 Place and their love of the Black Hills. This home was a vision. I hope you enjoy sharing it with me.

Why they chose this property

There's no humidity, there aren't many bugs, there's not much wind, things are a little more laid back, and there's such a wide variety of things to do. In the spring months, we have literally skied one day at Terry Peak and golfed the next in Rapid City, less than an hour away. And Fall in Spearfish Canyon, it just takes your breath away. Motorcycling is what brought me here. It's the best 2-wheeled riding in the state. But what kept us coming back, is that no matter which home I rented, I was AWAY FROM IT ALL. There's no place that relaxes me more than being in the Hills, and no other place I miss more when I leave.

What makes this property unique

Convenience of being near a town while staying in a secluded forest with views.
Easy Access on Paved Roads off Major Highway
HUGE Stocked Kitchen
All Guests Can Eat Meals Together
Multiple Living Areas
Log Bunk Room
