Quaint Family "Up North" Cottage on Tawas Lake - catch fish, relax, sunsets!
Our cottage is a quaint 'up North' family cottage, on Tawas Lake. We’re licensed through East Tawas’s short term rental ordinance. There are two bedrooms, and a sofa bed to sleep six. One bedroom has a sturdy set of bunk beds (adults can use them, but please limit the weight on the upper bunk!), and the other bedroom has a very comfortable queen sized bed. The couch in the living room has a queen sized pull-out sofa bed.
The kitchen is modern, has a nice stove and 'fridge, and is furnished with oak cabinets. Pots, pans, dishes, silverware, and more are there for you to use. There is a Keurig coffee maker, toaster, and a microwave oven. There is a nice oak dining room set. This is a pleasant setting for a family dinner.
There are windows around the exterior walls in the living room looking out over the lake. There is a deck overlooking the lake with a wrought iron table set and sun loungers. You can dine looking at the lake, or relax on the loungers and get a tan! There is a small deck on the street side, so if the wind is blowing in across the lake, you can enjoy your coffee there. There is a Cedar swing in the yard, and a pair of chairs perfect for watching the sun go down. Sunsets over the lake can be quite spectacular!
There is a dock and row boat available for your use. Life jackets, oars, and if you need it, instruction on how to use it all are available. The idea is to bring your fishing rods and have an enjoyable time on the lake. You'll catch fish right off the dock. There is a patio and picnic table with a charcoal grill beside the lake. This is a perfect spot for a family picnic under the shade of an Oak tree. In the evening you can make s'mores!
The town of East Tawas is a mile away on the shore of Lake Huron. The beaches there are wonderful sandy, and clean. There is a State of Michigan shelter harbor there. You can walk the dock, looking at the big boats, eating an ice cream cone on a sunny summer day! There is a lighthouse on Tawas Point, a couple of miles from the cottage. You can visit the State park on the point, and enjoy the sandy beaches there, too.
The Huron National Forrest is a few miles West. You can tour Lumberman's Monument, the AuSable River, and all the natural features of the area. In the summer you can you can use your side-by-side on the trails, and in the winter, there are miles of snowmobile trails throughout the forest. There are lots of things to do within a few miles of the cottage.
We encourage family enjoyment. House rules: no drug use, no smoking anything in the cottage. A family enjoyed the cottage before your visit, and another will arrive after you. We ask that you keep the cottage nice and safe for everyone to enjoy! The Golden Rule applies!

Close to downtown and perfect for biking or enjoying a swim in Lake Huron, this spot offers the charm of a true up-north town. The home is exceptionally clean and makes an ideal getaway retreat. This lake is wonderful for fishing, paddle boarding, or taking the boat out for a relaxing row. Just note that this particular lake is not suitable for swimming.

I asked if there was some problem with the cottage as there was a three star review. Kira said she meant to leave five stars but hit three by accident. She asked if she could leave another review but it’s not possible to leave more than one review. Three stars it is!
My family stayed at this property for a week, and nearly everything we needed was provided. The view of the lake at sunset was amazing. Because of the location, it was very quiet and there was virtually no traffic. We found the cottage to be a very peaceful place to stay.
Everything was perfect. The lake sunsets were beautiful, it is close to town & a lovely, quiet neighborhood we walked & e-biked. Very clean with all the amenities. Nice swing & deck to sit on & look at the lake. Comfortable bed. A big plus that we could take our little dog. 10 stars!!!

This was our second trip back to the cottage on Tawas Lake and it did not disappoint! The cottage was very clean and well stocked. The property owner was great to work with and very responsive. My family and I have stayed at several other cottages on Tawas lake and this is definitely our favorite. Can’t wait to return next summer!
What a great house with the perfect location! The house was very clean with everything you need. Amazing views of Tawas Lake with outstanding sunsets. Fun fishing spot, too! And just a couple minute drive into downtown Tawas for restaurants and shopping. Thank you, Lee, for your attentiveness and hospitality that helped make it a memorable family trip!

Thanks for your kind review! Come and stay with us again!
We had a great time with our family. The home was cozy and well kept. We all caught fish including our 4yrs old. Beach and town are right down the road. The boat was a nice perk! We will be back :)
We had a great stay at the Cobb’s cottage. The place was very clean. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything needed to prepare meals. Lee was great at communicating and was helpful with some additional fishing spots in the area to try. My son was also able to catch some fish right off the dock. We also saw lots of deer, rabbits, and squirrels during our stay! Would reccomend!
The cottage was very clean and comfortable. The water was a bit low, but my husband still managed to catch a good amount of fish. Loved watching the geese on the water every morning. Very friendly neighborhood and super close to downtown. Lee was a great host!
Cobb Cottage was the perfect vacation for us. It offered the privacy, the sights and sounds of nature and every amenity needed to live like you would at your own home. The owner was attentive to every need and could be contacted easily, if needed. Town was a short distance away and one could probably walk there easily (if healthy) or would make a great bike ride. I would highly recommend this place to anyone needing the “perfect getaway”.

My family and I throughly enjoyed our stay at the "Up North" cottage on Tawas Lake. The cottage was very clean, comfortable, and well-stocked with linens, bath towels, kitchen utensils, etc., and we immediately felt right at home when we walked in the door. Our favorite part about the cottage was sitting on the deck enjoying the amazing view of the lake. We definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a quiet place to unwind and enjoy all that East Tawas has to offer.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cobb Cottage. We stay in the area every summer and this year will be memorable for the cottage and location. We enjoyed the view and cycling with our e-bikes through out the area. The ride on the Alabaster Trail and the ride to the State Park Lighthouse were great. The cottage was very comfortable and well equiped. Thanks for the memories. Mike and Terry Pruss
It was a wonderful house. Clean and bright. Airy. Quiet. The lake is absolutely beautiful. We will definitely be back next fall. The one issue we noticed is that it says the house sleeps 6, but then when you get there the house rules say no one over 120lbs can sleep on the top bunk. What adult is under 120lbs? The house only sleeps 5 adults sized people, not 6. It wasn't relevant to us because we didn't have 6 people, but it would have been a problem if we had planned for a full house.
My husband, son, and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The house is right on Lake Tawas and there was a small row boat for use. The water level was a bit low, but it was a perfect place for our 18 month old to play in the water. The house is near downtown East Tawas where there are several shops and a few restaurants. There are also several nearby parks with access to the beach and Lake Huron. The house was clean and had a nice area to relax in the back yard with seating, a swing, and a small fire pit.
The Cobb Cottage was a great choice for our mini vacation. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular. The cottage was very clean and well stocked. The neighborhood was quiet - it was a great place to simply unwind and relax. If you are looking for a place to stay in Tawas, the Cobb Cottage is the place to be. You can't go wrong...and you will be very happy with the choice.
Lee and Karen....we will be back. Hopefully it will be available in October. Thanks!!!

Generally, we don’t bother anyone staying at our cottages - we stay clear unless someone needs something. I had sent an email to the guest in advance, giving door codes, asking that they park beside the cottage, etc. Our guest drove between the large stones marking the edge of our front yard and the street, and parked in the front yard. I walked over and introduced myself (we live across the street) and asked that he please move his car to the side of the house. Wasn’t being unfriendly, I’m sorry that he took it that way!
Because it was the week before Labor Day, we had the lake practically to ourselves. The cabin was definitely use some updates, but had all the essentials needed. Although I never had direct contact with Lee myself, my husband found him to be a very gracious and conscientious host. He responded immediately to all of our needs. The only suggestions I can make that I’m sure would be greatly appreciated by future guests would be to have a small engine for the rowboat and a proper fire pit. The Cobbs should also ask their cleaning staff to take a look behind the television… ewww!
We had an excellent experience staying in Lee’s cottage - clear communication, lovely views and an extremely clean, comfortable, and well-equipped space. I would absolutely recommend this property for a peaceful getaway with quick access to East Tawas.

About the host

We live across the street so anything you need from us is just a short walk away.
Why they chose this property
My extended family has had cottages in this neighborhood since the 1930s so this is home for us. We looked all over the USA thinking about where to retire and decided to live here. East Tawas is a wonderful place!
What makes this property unique
The sunsets! You’d have to go to Key West to see anything better!
