About this property

Trouvaille House Suite #1 “Provence Suite"

Trouvaille House was built in 1830 and was one of the earlier houses built in Harpers Ferry. There are four large, private suites, each with its own private bath outfitted with soaking tubs or modern showers.

Coffee service is provided in each room, as well as mini fridges (coming soon). The new kitchen is a shared, gathering type space with full set of dishes, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, etc. Lots of windows and light and seating options.

Trouvaille House is on the Main Street - Washington Street just steps from lower town and convenient to everything.

This is the largest suite with en-suite spa-like bathroom and a private sunroom! A separate, private back entrance is available.

Private suite with sunroom, shared kitchen/ gathering area, front porch and bistro area, back yard with all amenities.

(No keys to lose or to return! This property provides secure, keyless entry with an August Smart Lock. You can lock and unlock the door with your smartphone, using a unique virtual key, or personal entry code issued to you for the duration of your stay.)

I am on the the property on a daily basis or just up the street at La Soledad. I can be reached anytime by text or phone call :)

Trouvaille House is on Washington Street, full of historic old homes, small parks and lots of history. We are less than a mile from lower town and the NHP. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is just steps away!

There is limited free street parking in front of the house (with a parking pass from me). Also, extra parking a few blocks away at La Soledad, our sister property.

The town has hourly paid street parking, or you can buy a parking pass from Harpers Ferry NHP. We are very close to everything, and walking is recommended. There are some hills, so bring comfortable shoes!

Fabulous stay at Harper's Ferry

The location of this property is fantastic. We parked the car and walked to everything! Seemed like a safe neighborhood. Christie, the host, is very responsive and helped us in a timely manner. The room was clean and perfect for a weekend getaway. We would definitely stay here again.

Weekend Getaway

Great property in a great location. The towns of Harpers Ferry and Bolivar are within easy walking distance, and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy is right up the street. An evening of live music at The Barn is a must. I would definitely stay here again.

Getaway Weekend

The property was fantastic and as advertised. Christie was responsive! The only issue was communicating with Christie through the VRBO app. Once in Harper's Ferry Christie provided her cell phone and was prompt in responding. Thank you for a wonderful weekend stay!

Peace and a bathtub

It’s a great place to get away. Christie leaves you with stellar recommendations for food, hikes, and shopping. I enjoyed reading in the sunroom on the rainy days of my stay and touring the places she recommended. And…… that soaking tub…… I’d go back for the bathtub alone. 10 outta 10 would recommend!

First visit to Harper's Ferry

This is a beautiful and well-appointed home. It's convenient to town and other services such as a bakery and some good restaurants. The owner was easy to reach and came by the house to introduce herself. I highly recommend!

Very clean historical home, and nicely decorated. The only thing that could have been better is receiving a passcode for the home and our room before arriving via email like most rental properties do.

Overall Experience

My husband and I originally booked 2 nights. Temps were some of the coldest of the winter and when we arrived at the house we couldn’t even take our winter coats off because the house felt just as cold inside. We found the remote to start the electric fireplace in our room which kept it comfortable so we didn’t bring it to the owner’s attention as the problem was solved. However, we had the room with the large bathroom which was absolutely freezing! There was a drafty door from the bathroom that led to an enclosed glass patio that didn’t have any heat. We found a remote in the sunroom but didn’t see anything that it belonged to so when we text her she said it was for a heater in the sunroom (we didn’t see one) but she asked us not to turn it on. The bathroom was chilly but we didn’t complain to the owner since the chill stemmed from the unheated sunporch. We left for the evening and when we returned we had difficulty getting into our room using the keypad. After several attempts and contacting the owner she noted that the keypad to our room was “finicky”. The next morning the blow dryer stopped working within a few seconds after it was turned on. We tried all of the outlets in the bathroom and bedroom and only one in the bedroom worked which was behind the bed headboard. The gas fireplace also stopped working along with the tv. We contacted the owner. It took her an hour to respond. She said that has happened in the past and that the electric fireplace heater pulls a lot of power and you can’t use a blow dryer at the same time or an electrical issue occurs. In a phone conversation with the owner, she agreed that due to the issues we could check out after the first night and she would refund us the second night’s stay minus the cleaning fee which we agreed to. We commented that the temps were some of the coldest of the winter and there wasn’t much to do in the area and she pulled that from the conversation and is claiming that is why we checked out early, which is untrue. We gave the owner plenty of time to refund us what she verbally agreed to and we tried contacting her through text messages but no response. We were then notified that she is claiming damages for breaking the handle on her refrigerator which we did not do. What you do not see in any pictures is that small dorm-size refrigerator sits on the floor behind the door and when the door opens it automatically hits into the middle of the handle—right where it’s broken.

Great Stay in Harpers Ferry

My husband and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary with a weekend stay in Harpers Ferry. Our room was large and comfortable, with lots of charm. The host, Christie May, gave us a wonderful tour of the property, its history, and tips for things to do while in town. The location is great, within walking distance to restaurants, pubs, hiking, and other things to do. We will be back!

Beautiful Historical hHome as our first VRBO

Loved our host, Christie's hospitality and knowledge of the area. Everything she recommended was right on key. The house was an amazing historical home and our room was beautiful. Enjoyed taking a bubble bath in the clawfoot tub, after a long hike! Being our first VRBO, will definitely do this again. Would totally recommend this place to anyone!

I live around the corner from the Trouvaille House at La Soledad Lavender Farm. I have been a professional artist for many years, and started hosting my first guesthouse during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was such a positive and rewarding experience, that with a partner, I purchased and remodeled the Trouvaille House in 2021. I love meeting my guests and making sure they have the best experience and memories of their visit to Harpers Ferry!

Why they chose this property

A lovely, pre Civil War home, Trouvaille House is right on the Main Street, Washington Street, in historic Harpers Ferry. One of the Historic Inns in Harpers Ferry. Just 3/4 of a mile from the convergence of the rivers in lower town and the NHP. Just across the street from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Easily walkable to just about anywhere you want to go. Free parking in front of the house.

The Trouvaille House was built in 1830 and we updated it to create four luxury suites! A trouvaille is a treasure or lucky find, and we certainly feel that way about it!

What makes this property unique

Even though the house is very old and historic, it has had a fresh makeover. The Provence Suite feels like you have stepped into a sunny room in the south of France. Beautiful original artwork, stained glass and a fireplace! Two separate entrances into the suite are a bonus. The spa-like bathroom and private sunroom make this suite especially spacious and bright.

Enjoy a long soak in the claw foot tub with our lavender soap and bath salts from our farm, La Soledad, just around the corner! Perfect finish to a great day of hiking and exploring!
