About Paul Swanson
We have always had a love of water, islands and diving. We also appreciate quiet nature, wild life and spectacular views. Cayman Brac is off the beaten path, peaceful, and safe, yet has all the services that are nice to have close by such as medical care, grocery stores, library. Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are listed in the top five of all world wide diving locations. We live full time on Washington Island in Wisconsin, with an assortment of children, dogs, and rabbits.
Paul Swanson purchased this Villa in 2008
Why Paul Swanson chose Cayman Brac
We chose Cayman Brac to build our house because of the great beauty of the Brac and the warm, wonderful people (Brackers) that live here. Our House is located in the Cayman Country as the Southside is known. There is no crime on Cayman Brac which was a major reason for picking this wonderful location to build our home.
What makes this Villa unique
We are located right on the ocean in a very private and rural setting with a new in ground pool just off our front porch that fronts the ocean. Beach combing and diving is wonderful right off our shore. There is usually a constant trade wind breeze at all times.

If you want an Island home with modern conveniences - Stay here!
Our weekend was enjoyable with all conveniences available inside and outside the home. The owners have many Island straw work items throughout the home, you will definitely be in Island mode! Internet service is reliable for those needing to work or catch up with family back home. Views from the porch are breathtaking, great fishing from the shore. The view from the kitchen window looks out to the bluff, you might even see rock climbers. We enjoyed watching their rock climbing adventures one afternoon. Would certainly stay here again!
Really enjoyed our stay @ Southern Reach. Property was clean and as described. I do think you should mention in your listing that there is no safe access to the ocean. Only other thing is how far it is to island amenities. Gorgeous views
Hi Richard, Thanks for your review. I am sorry and should of mentioned but there is a small cut in the Iron shore on the right side of our lot that is sand and you can enter the ocean their when it is calm. Thanks again for your review. Regards, Paul
A quiet beach getaway
We spent 3 nights at Southern Reach. Paul was great about giving us information needed for our stay and also things to do on the island. It’s a beautiful spot, the ocean view is breathtaking. The waves were too big for us to go into the ocean from the house, I’m not sure if it’s the time of year or if it’s always wavy but they were beautiful to watch.
The pool is great to cool off and there is ample shade if you don’t love the sun. You can find lots of treasures walking along the beach and you can walk a fair distance.
We really enjoyed our time in Brac, it feels almost untouched. You can hop in the water just about anywhere with a mask and snorkle and see some of the most beautiful fish and coral. We will definitely be back!
Casual relax on the Brac
This is a casual ocean front place to relax. Great for families and people that love being outdoors.
We enjoyed scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking, exploring caves, hanging out on the back patio watching the sunrises and relaxing in the evening with a drink.
It was just me and my wife so we just relaxed. Our biggest complaint was that there was not a good wine bottle opener for us. Can't tell you much about interior as we spent as much time outside, on back patio and by the pool as possible.
Quiet, remote and clean getaway
We stayed here "off season", so can't speak for busier times ... but this little hideaway was exactly what we were looking for (and more): quiet, secluded/remote, clean and the kind of place that quickly, easily helps a traveler transition into blissed-out vacation mode.
We rented a car (essential), provisioned up (the Market Place is $$$ -- hit up Billy's or Kirk market on the north side) and settled in easily. The house has all of the "stuff" we needed (kitchen/cookware, towels, comfy, clean beds and linens, good WiFi). The small pool was icing on the cake -- perfect for a refreshing dip after a long day of diving and saltwater swimmin'.
You MUST bring sturdy swim booties/shoes if you plan any shore swimming/diving/snorkeling on Cayman Brac. The shoreline in front of the house (and around the island, in general) is very rocky and the approach into the water is very rough-edged and sharp. We were not able to access the water directly in front of the house b/c the seas were a little too rough and we were worried waves might slam us into the rocks. We headed to the north side for all diving/shore dives and snorkeling for this reason.
Love, love, loved our stay here. Would recommend to anyone who appreciates adventure, privacy and remote locations (and doesn't mind the "effort" it takes to get there). THANK YOU for this little piece of heaven on Brac. :)
Thanks for your note and glad you had a great time. When people ask me about Cayman Brac I always say a hidden paradise if you are looking for remote old time Caribbean with all the modern conveniences. Cheers Paul
World Famous Diving and Rock Climbing, Excellent Birding and Hiking. Charter fishing is available from many local fishermen. Relax, enjoy the peace and quiet, curl up in a hammock overlooking the ocean and enjoy a good book.
