We loved the island, the ferry ride over, the wildlife, the local folks. I will highly recommend to anyone who wants to relax and not shop on their vacation.
The property is beautiful very private. It is a hike down to the beach and sturdy water shoes are recommended to enjoy a swim. House was very clean w updated baths. Plenty of space for our party of 5. Comfortable furniture and beds. Loved all the fans to keep the rooms cool. Cute studio apartment. Washer & Dyer came in handy. Char came to check on us and was very friendly and welcoming.

Outdated and little maintenance done to the property
The house is very outdated and needs lots of maintenance. The trees are tall enough you can barely see any of the lake from the house. You have to walk down 2 flights of stairs to get to the water. The beds are not comfortable and damn near on the floor. You also have to pay to haul your own trash out! If you like being secluded and no one around, this is the place for you. The whole island has a 70’s pot smoker vibe and is stuck in that time period. We won’t be back for sure. This house was way overpriced for what it actually is. Stay at a cheaper place in town so you can walk to the 5 or so stores and restaurants along Main Street.
The property was easy to find...great directions from the host. We weren't sure from the photos what to expect from the property. It was not what I had envisioned, but I felt at home in the 50s to 70s eclectic furnishings and decor since that was the Era I grew up in.
There are a few reasons I gave this property a rating of 4 that I think other guests would like to know before staying there. The first reason was the spider webs with spiders nearly everywhere on the outside of the property and even some on the inside. The second reason was the infestation of ants which we primarily noticed in the kitchen which prompted us to store all of our food in the refrigerator where they couldn't get into it. The third reason was the sliding glass doors with glass doors that were very difficult to open and screen doors that fell off the tracks when being operated. The final reason was that we were not told at any time before actually checking into our property that we were required to collect our trash when we left and take it to a trash facility which had minimal days and hours of operation. Instead, this information is shared in the guest instruction book at the property. I believe this is something people should be told ahead of time.
It's a lovely location and is easily accessible to everything on the island. We enjoyed spending time at the beach in the evenings, though with no lighting it is necessary to take flashlights to get back to the house up 4 flights of stairs. I loved the beautiful wooded lot and the sweet little flower garden at the front of the house. We enjoyed our stay and will have lovely memories to look back on.
We had a great time at this secluded beach front property. There were a lot of steps to get to the beach and it was well worth it. One toilet didn't work and that was a bother. Coffee lover's dream, with equipment to make the perfect cup of coffee.
We absolutely loved our stay! The house easily accommodated 4 couples and was bright as airy. Kitchen was well stocked and beds comfy! The deck and lakeshore were absolutely the highlight- sunsets were gorgeous. We will definitely return!!

About the host
Hosted by Stephanie
We have been traveling up to Washington Island for over 15 years and are in love with the peace and beauty this part of Wisconsin has to offer. We love all the seasons on the Island and there is magic & adventure in each one, but Summer and Fall are our favorites!
What makes this property unique
Washington Island is uniquely set on Lake Michigan at the passage into Green Bay, North of Door County. Our waterfront cottage is set on the Western coast of the Island and boasts some of the most beautiful sunsets on the Island. We have 200' of private water front for guests to enjoy. Fall fires and drinks by the water or Summer time water play are all just a short walk down to the rocky beach from our back elevated deck.
