About this property

Secluded Creekside Cabin in Morganton near Linville Gorge - hot tub

Enjoy peaceful creekside solitude at Roho's Cabin - named for the funniest man to ever live in Burke County, NC - Roho, M.D., stand up comedian (and my dad).

Tucked down the side of the mountain on 3.43 acres with private access to Upper Creek, relax and unwind in our family cabin then hit one of the many nearby hiking trails. Only 7 miles to the Brown Mountain OHV trails (34 miles of off roading trails) and Brown Mountain Beach Resort, 9 miles to Upper Creek Falls, 12 miles to Wilson’s Creek, 13.5 miles to Hawksbill Mountain, 17 miles to Linville Falls, 18 miles to Table Rock, 24 miles to Grandfather Mountain.

There’s plenty to do in Morganton (20 minutes to downtown) and Lenoir (25 minutes away). Or take a day trip to Banner Elk, Blowing Rock, Boone, Black Mountain, or Asheville - all less than an hour drive.

Neighbors across the creek are cows and donkeys; Daniel Boone Campground neighbors to the North. Steele Creek Park is across 181.

Our Goodland wood burning (soaking) hot tub nestled high under the rocks with a fantastic view of the creek and valley is truly an epic experience, but it is one you must WORK for. The soaking (no jets) hot tub is sanitized and left empty after each stay. You will need to rinse it, fill it with fresh water (pumped from the creek), and then heat the water with a wood fire (unless you prefer a cold plunge!). The process takes from 2.5-5 hours, but the reward is well worth it. It is a unique experience that requires slowing down to enjoy the ritual of building the fire, heating the water and enjoying a chemical free, environmentally friendly soak. Goodland calls it the pursuit of pause - and we highly recommend it.

Up to two dogs allowed with $100 pet fee, subject to approval at time of booking. Please provide the breed and size of your dog(s) when requesting to book and you will be asked to agree to some basic rules to keep your furry friends and Roho's Cabin safe and cozy.

Driveway is narrow and steep - front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive recommended. Drive slowly (and bravely) and you’ll be fine.
Or you can park at the upper parking area and take the stairs down the mountain. Be sure to visit the rock formation using the other set of stairs. All built by Roho when the cabin was his home.

Enjoy the provided linens, towels, and earth friendly products (such as Grove) - naturally derived hair products and soaps, recycled trash bags, etc. Cleaning products used are also earth friendly.

This is a great place to disconnect! Satellite internet with wifi is available but it is NOT great; definitely slower than what you are probably used to. (As soon as better internet service becomes available, we will have it.) Streaming is possible (but hit or miss) with the smart TV and the provided Fire Stick, but live action gaming and VPN are not recommended. High speed (25 Mbps) internet access is limited (more can be purchased); lower speed is unlimited. DVDs, books, games, and puzzles are available for some internet free entertainment. Cell service is spotty; a phone is available (uses satellite internet).

Living space is 526 square feet (one level). Freshly painted inside and out; hardwoods in living room; new laminate flooring in other rooms. Several steps up to deck for entry. Washer and dryer are in walkout basement.

Small bedroom has a queen size bed with a new Licid 12” hybrid mattress - all new furniture and bedding. 32” TV, DVD player, alarm clock, and charging ports in bedroom.

Living room offers a full-size daybed with twin trundle, new loveseat and rocking recliner, 50” TV with DVD player and wood stove. Small dining area is open to living room and just outside the kitchen.

Full kitchen has an apartment size electric range (4 burners and small oven) and a new retro style 12 cubic ft fridge with freezer. Countertop ice maker, microwave, Cuisinart toaster oven /air fryer provided. No dishwasher- sorry. Cookware, plates, utensils, etc. all provided. Basic pantry items provided. Drip coffee maker makes a pot or a cup at a time using ground coffee or K cups. K cups, sugar, and half & half provided.

Ceiling fans in living room, bedroom and kitchen. Brand new powerful mini split for electric heat and air conditioning throughout.

Outside enjoy views and sounds of the creek from two levels of decks. Propane grill and outdoor seating provided. Rock patio with seating located closer to the creek. Rock fire pit available- please check local burn warnings before using it and pour water on it after use. If you see firewood stacked nearby, feel free to use it. Outdoor items provided include Cornhole, floats, camp chairs, sand toys and water squirters, and giant Jenga.

Or jump on in the water - we have private creek access with a rock path down to the creek. For your safety, shoes should be worn at all times outdoors, including in the creek.

BUGS - there will be bugs! This is the woods with a creek - bugs love it here! (Can you blame them?) Hopefully none make it inside, but please expect them outside and bring your favorite bug repellent!

Security cameras are located on each side of the property to monitor the driveway and primary entrances.

Nice mid-week get away!
My lovely wife and I took the week off to stay at Roho's. This is the place to get away from the work stress and enjoy the country fresh air. The Cabin was clean and well outfitted with modern amenities.Very cozy! I love the Rooster motif! Our Host April responded right away when i had questions. We really enjoyed watching the farm animals across the field. The Donkeys are a real hoot. The Cabin is dog friendly and our Chihuahuas had the time of their lives. We are senior citizens. The Wife is retired and I have a couple years to go. The steps to the creek are well placed to make it easy for seniors to hit the creek with just a little effort. The creek has lots of life in it. Unfortunately I didn't catch the big trout i saw running the rocks. Better luck next time:-) Thank you April! Hope to visit again. M.A.

Excellent getaway location
My wife and I stayed at Roho's Cabin for our honeymoon. We found that the location was exactly as described, and better than expected! I did manage to get us lost on the way in because GPS was not accurate and I didn't pay attention. Rechecking the instructions from the host quickly got us back on track though. Once we reached the cabin we found a cozy little place that we both felt right at home in. The river and surrounding woods isolate the area nicely and provide absolutely beautiful morning views. The host communicated with us perfectly and we had no issues at any point in our stay. The only criticism I would offer is to make the driveway a little bit more visible from 181. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend Roho's Cabin to anyone who wants to step back from the rest of the world for a few days! We will certainly be adding it to our list of places to visit again!

Great Experience
The Cabin was so cozy and welcoming. The Creek view and access was wonderful and the extra details from the host like snacks, coffee and water were a bonus. Endless nearby hiking and things to do and see. Will definitely stay here again.

Roho's Cabin is our family cabin that belonged to my dad, Roho, master carpenter and stand-up comedian. He bought a rundown hunting cabin and made it into a wonderful space. We are happy to share his hard work with others who enjoy some creekside mountain solitude.
