THE BEAVER ISLAND ARCHIPELAGO is composed of ten small islands that peek above the fresh waters of northeast Lake Michigan, far enough from the mainland to be environmentally distinct and relatively well preserved. An abundance of natural life thrives: 19 mammal species and hundreds of fish, bird, insect, and plant species all supported by a remarkable variety of beaches, forests, wetlands, and other habitats. The large inhabited Island contains 6 inland lakes and representations of every ecosystem in Michigan. And on the biggest island, Beaver, stands the great lake's largest settlement - a year-round community for seven generations, distinct for its relaxed pace, quality of life, and resilience. The inhabitants of Beaver Island are warm and welcoming, and include folks of historic Irish and Native American descent as well as many friendly folks of more recent residency on the Island.

Our host was very gracious, and knowledgeable about Beaver Island. Seamus gave us great destinations to visit and explore. He told us where to hike and where interesting locations to see. We would not have found these locations without a guide. Also made us a wonderful breakfast.
Seamus was very helpful, very communicative . We booked for two nights and stayed in the cabin across the way as my partner is more rustic . Shared spaces were accessible whenever we wanted ( kitchen , bathroom ) Not great cell service right there but most island is that way except near port . Lots of butterflies and wildlife around .
We had an absolutely magical stay on beaver island! Perfect for folks who want to unplug and reconnect with nature! While this experience could be considered “roughing it”(minimal cell signal and no flushable plumbing on site) we really enjoyed the comfortable cabin with VERY comfortable bedding! Our host Seamus was a highlight of our trip! He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to all your beaver island questions! We rented a car and enjoyed driving around to stop at beaches, lighthouses, and connecting as a couple! We will be back with friends!!
An awesome experience! Seamus really took the time to make us feel welcome, and his knowledge of the unique history of the island was the highlight of our trip. Seamus took us down backroads, and gave us a view of the island that we would have not have explored without his guidance. A great trip!
Our stay at Tara’s meadow was one of the best experiences my wife and I have had in all of our travels. Not just because of the beautiful property, but more so because of Seamus. He is truly a genuine person who cares for others and beaver island. I would definitely recommend anyone interested in staying to give it a shot.
Had an enjoyable couple days staying at host Seamus’s house in the woods. It was a very quiet peaceful location toward the southern end of the island, surrounded by nature.
Seamus made us a yummy all organic breakfast one morning. He is a wealth of knowledge about the island and all things natural.
We did break the silence of the island bombing around the 2-track roads in a UTV we rented for 4 hours. Was a great weekend.
When booking this cabin I hadn't expected our host to be so dedicated to ensuring the quality of our stay. At every turn, Seamus was excited to get us settled in, giving incredible recommendations for our days out exploring alone to guided tours accompanied by stories of island history. The cabin itself was the perfect size for intimate late night conversations and for spreading out and getting some much needed alone time.
If you're looking to get away from the world for a while and tune into nature, with a side of amazing conversations, you could not find a better place or better host!
Just one instance of how well taken care of my friends and I were, we had some issues with our return trip on the ferry, my car had to go back to the mainland a day early, and he offered to act as our chauffeur for the remainder of our stay!
The beds were comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. Pack a book and enjoy the beautiful surroundings!
The visit to Beaver Island was very enjoyable because of our host Seamus. He was there to help us every step of the way. Very intelligent with a very large knowledge of the history of the island and gave great advise on places to visit on the island. The site itself was found deeply in the forest. It was just what you would expect. A peaceful quiet place to think and relax from the busy world outside. There were some drawbacks as you can expect. Cell phone reception was nonexistent. That is good if you are trying to unplug from the world. We did have a couple issues contacting our travel companions. At least there was a land line. We were surprised that Seamus’s entry to the house was through the bathroom. My wife was concerned about being surprised if someone came in while she was using the shower or toilet. The environment was a bit musty as you can expect in the forest. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
This was our first time to the island and as such, we decided to fly in. What an incredible way to see the natural beauty of Beaver Island!
Once on the island we were met by a soft spoken, intelligent and oh so knowledgeable host, Seamus.
Seamus quickly met our every request, we stocked up on supplies at the local grocery store and we were smoothly transported to our charming island accommodations. This cabin in the woods is a delightfully gorgeous summer cabin and sits comfortably amongst thick Northern Michigan vegetation and allows for a secluded private getaway.
As this is a shared space, Seamus is available in any capacity guests request. Our requests to see great beaches, the mother birch and the entirety of the island by truck were appeased. Would definitely not have seen as much of this island without such a gracious guide.
Should also mention that coffee, tea or hot cocoa, toiletries, linens and bug spray were provided as needed. Perfect stay for people who are new to the island as Seamus has thought of everything.
Thank you Seamus! Absolutely loved our stay.
This property rental is a scam!…and is not the first time you have heard this..shame on you for continuing this listing..we had failed and late communication that didn’t explain accessibility in time to switch our car rental to a truck..which is needed to safely approach this place..then after booking a 2 story cabin that “sleeps 7” we were given one small bedroom with no private bathroom in the cabin as the “host “ stayed upstairs..unacceptable!!…we were there 10 minutes, then bottomed out our rental car trying to leave and rain was on the way, which would have left us stranded there..an absolute rip off and we are demanding a full refund as we have never stayed there..then had to return to town and paid double the price for last minute privacy that we thought we were getting from your listing..we will be pursuing this matter in small claims court if not resolved
My friends and I expected to go and have a nice time! We went into the house and upstairs where we was supposed to sleep, it was just 3 air mattresses on the floor outside his room! He planned on staying in the house with us. 3 single woman! There was a no electronic rule... no signal on our phones for over 3 miles, no internet. He had an alter in the room with horns on it. And when we said we didn't feel comfortable staying alone with a man we don't know I got less than half what I paid back. Then had to pay even more for a hotel!! It is ridiculous! In no way is that ok... and we are not the first women he has done this too! We were the 2nd group of people just this season! I will never go back to Beaver island because of everything! I would have never paid the money for that place if I would have know everything! Don't do it!!! Go somewhere else!!!!
Seamus was a wonderful host and very attentive - he is extremely knowledgeable about Beaver Island history and had many suggestions of things to discover. We learned a lot about the island and explored as much as possible. Seamus made us a great breakfast on one of the mornings! Would highly recommend this host!
