Il Pittore (Mario Speroni): The "Casa del Pittore" was founded in the 11th century. Century and over the course of time several times restructured. It is one of the houses that could tell of many interesting events from the past. The story of Mario Speroni is also one of them, and she is the one who moves the most sensitive visitor the most. The grandfather of today's owner was born in 1913. He was only nine years old when Mussolini came to power in 1922, and thirty when this dark chapter came to an end. During this period his childhood and adolescence, which differed little from his peers under these extraordinary circumstances, took place. Nothing special, apart from the fact that Mario Speroni "wrote" the story of his young life in the form of frescoes on his house and thus left posterity an illustrated diary of his life during fascism. In the complete building there is an unusual mixture of symbols of antique Italian myths alongside those of the then regime as well as the representation of contemporary events such as the Olympics of 1936 in Berlin on walls and ceilings. When you look carefully at the house, the numerous religious drawings, in the midst of the secular and political elements, are particularly noticeable. One gets the impression that the painter at that time desperately sought his inner balance between the old traditional traditions and the new values imposed by the state. Today, almost 70 years later, one could believe that Mario Speroni was able to predict his future. The self-portrait with the cross and an orthodox cathedral add a whole different meaning to the whole, because the sensitive artist had to participate in the Russian campaign, returned to Italy with the most severe frostbite, and then spent the last 20 years of his life in the military hospital. Mario Speroni never returned to his house, where he left behind the painted illusions, hopes and dreams of a whole generation. Casa del Pittore: The approx. 200 m² 6-room house from the 11th century.
