About this property

Traditional stone house with a breathtaking view of the lake

Our beautiful old stone house with a breathtaking view of the lake is embedded in a historic village, 4 churches and a small playground. It is a traditional old Lombard stone house, which we have lovingly renovated little by little, largely with typical and ecological materials.
You enter the house through a classic old chestnut door. On the ground floor there are two basement rooms, one of which you can use to park prams, mountain bikes etc.
An old stone staircase with hand-hewn granite steps leads you to the 1st and 2nd Floor.
On the 1st floor there is a large, fully equipped kitchen with a closed, open fireplace and a small seating area. To the left of the staircase is the living room, as well as a fireplace with a glass door. In the living room there is a sofa bed (for 2. People), a large dining table and a magnificent ceiling painting. Between the 1st and 2nd Floor there is a very nice little shower room with toilet. Between ground floor and 1st On the first floor there is another small room with a toilet, sink and washing machine.
The 2. Floor has two delightful bedrooms, each with a double bed and 2 extra beds if required. From the hallway between the two rooms you get to the balcony with an intoxicating view over the entire lake and the surrounding mountains. A small seat and hammock invite you to linger.

All rooms offer a fantastic view over the long side of the lake. For the colder season, the house has a newly installed gas central heating in addition to the fireplace. The house also offers a baby bed, baby chair, grill, garden furniture, board games.

The house also has a garden in terraces below the house and a small pretty kitchen terrace with seating for summer meals.

Because of the traditional village structure, it is not possible to drive directly to the house by car. However, free parking spaces are available approx. 150m away.

In addition to a place of relaxation, the house is also an ideal starting point for active holidays, beach holidays or sightseeing. From the village of Campagnano you can go on wonderful hikes or explore the region by mountain bike or racing bike. The village had a nice little shop, which unfortunately is currently closed. Last year there was a meeting place for coffee, drinks and snacks on the square below the house.
By car you are in 10 minutes. down by the lake in Maccagno.

Maccagno is a typical Italian city steeped in history. Ideal for swimming with a child-friendly beach. A sailing and surfing school is also nearby. If you want, you can walk to the lake in 40 minutes. Maccagno offers nice restaurants and a larger supermarket. If you want to stroll a bit by car or ferry in 10min. drive to Luino or Cannobbio. There you will find Italian chique and a large weekly market on Saturdays.

Beware!
The house looks like it's at water level, but it's actually up a long road with lots of harrowing switchbacks. We were told it takes 10 minutes to get to the house, but it was more like 20. The walk to the house is also very difficult from the parking area with steep stone walkways that are uneven. We are from the US, but confusingly, we were offered directions in German. All the instructions in the house were in German too, so we had to figure things out in the house on our own. Not one item was in English. The bathrooms are on separate floors from the bedrooms, so foreboding in the middle of the night, but none too pleasant even in daylight hours. We ended up leaving early and because we felt captive in an area that was so inaccessible. The owner offered no compensation or help in making our stay better, even though we offered to split the difference. He basically said too bad! We had to pay an additional amount His communication was poor; he didn't even realize we had booked on VRBO and said we had booked on a German site! I have rented through vrbo and many other platforms for years, and I have never had an experience like this before. Hosts always have always gone out of their way to make our stay enjoyable wherever we travel. This experience just made us feel unwelcome and miserable. Unless you need a place to stay to write your next novel, I would not recommend staying here if you are on vacation.

Wunderbar
Wir hatten einen tollen Urlaub! Das Haus ist sehr liebevoll hergerichtet und sauber. Wir hatten uns sofort wohl gefühlt. Die Anfahrt ist spannend. Aber man wächst mit seinen Aufgaben. Absolute Empfehlung!!!
