This rambling farmhouse has a balanced mix of meticulous restoration with an eccentric flair. Undermountain Farm is a home carefully designed with warmth and spirit. It also has a unique collection of fascinating antiques and collectibles. Enjoy cooking in the state-of-the-art kitchen, your only dilemma being where to eat. You can choose the solarium, surrounded by exotic plants and the sun streaming through the glass, or the patio, where you might hear the roar of the waterfall which tumbles down the mountain behind the house after a rainfall. Or you could try the formal dining room which still has the original Dutch oven from the 18th century. The veranda is a good choice for afternoon tea and a view of the Highland Cattle in the meadows. Yet another option is the informal breakfast/farm table on the stone floor near the entrance to the house. Lastly, there are the two stool chairs at the eat-in kitchen counter with a view of the luminous kitchen delicately accented with orchids. The hand-crafted cabinetry in the kitchen was all made from one maple tree from the property. We recently had a large dinner party for forty people in the breakfast sitting room after we removed the couch and chairs. Tis was the very max I would like to say. With all the downstairs rooms we were able to have hors d'oeuvres in the dinning room, a bar in the green house, and dancing, complete with a disco ball, in the stable.
Suffice it to say, this farmhouse has many rooms to enjoy. If you like a large space, then the former stables might suit you with its high vaulted ceilings and original beams it boasts a magnificent stone fireplace and huge windows that offer a pastoral view of the surrounding meadows. If you prefer a cosy room, then the den is ideal with its antique wood paneling and big comfy leather chairs. Its soothing, ambient feeling will make you want to curl up with a good book in front of the wood stove and forget about the outside world. The formal living or 'sitting' room has views of the big willow tree and a telescope to view the night sky. The informal living area adjoining the kitchen is an easy and friendly gathering place. Our home has three fireplaces and two wood stoves to keep you warm, and there’s also a fire cauldron and grill on the back stone patio.
If you’re staying with friends, you will have to draw straws for the huge master bedroom where the rising sun illuminates the artfully plastered walls creating a deep, orange, radiant light in the morning. Besides the beautiful tinted plaster, the added bonus in the master bathroom is the shower and its floor of river stones, and the jacuzzi where you can gaze over the meadows to the grazing Highland Cows. Those who drew the shorter straws will be happy in the other three bedrooms which have lovely outlooks over the Berkshire Hills and offer a quiet respite for a restful sleep; including the soothing sounds of a seasonal babbling brook. Two of these rooms are also upstairs and share a full bath. The last is on the main floor and is directly next to the downstairs full bath. All beds are Queen size except the downstairs which is an antique frame and special mattress bigger than a Double, but just shy of a Queen. In addition, both convertible sofas are Queen size. We have three single couches which can be utilized.
Walking, hiking, and cross country skiing abound and can start right from the back door. As Nature Conservancy land abuts the house there are no visible neighbors, and so lots of privacy. Up at the top of the ridge next to Bear Rock Falls is the Appalachian Trail - just behind the house!
A unique House, all hand-plastered, with a long history, old foundations on the property, a midden. A simple, and calming stay, gentle Highland Cows and Belted Galloways included...

Robin was a kind host! The house is a beautiful place to stay; the pantry and bookshelves were stocked, and the house has historic charm. The kids loved feeding the cows and looking at all of the decor.
We had a great stay. There is lots of room to spread out for a larger group. The furnishings and decorations are wonderful and eccentric, and the property has a rich history, very tastefully preserved. The kids loved the room with gymnastic rings and feeding the highland cattle across the road. Overall, fantastic.
Remarkable house! I'm still agape at the beauty of the spalted maple woodwork in the kitchen and front area of the place! Plenty of wood for the stoves kept us really warm. Feeding your Highland cows was a highlight for the little folks!
Our group of 8 had a delightful stay at the Antique Farmhouse! Robin was very friendly and responsive. It’s a large house, with plenty of room to spread out and explore. The kitchen is large, and very well equipped. We enjoyed cooking meals together as a group. The property itself is beautiful, and the cows are fun. All in all, a great trip!
All 10 family members enjoyed the stay. Not only was the house comfortable, peaceful, and creative but the gardens were blooming and there were bird families all around the yard. Lots of family space and spaces for alone time. Wish we could have stayed longer than 2 nights.
Place is great. Has a old farmhouse feel with an update. Lots of spots within the house for people to hang out. We did a family birthday get together and had a great time.
It was a fun place for a lot of people to stay. The only negative was the owner not having the air conditioning units in the windows of the bedrooms especially since it was so hot.

Oh I am so sorry . I did not know that you wanted ac . We do offer it as optional extra .
I would have installed them if you had asked, as we only put them in as requested due to the extra cost of running them .
Thank you for your review.
All the best Robin.
Great renewed farmhouse in a bucolic setting among farms and cows. Very peaceful, and close enough to some of the small Berkshire downtowns. Robin (the owner) couldn't have made us feel more at home.
Our second time for a family event here and it was just as magnificent as ever. The house is extremely well appointed, has a wonderful distribution of rooms, and can accommodate large groups. (We were 12 plus a dog). We’ll be back!

We look forward to seeing you again next year.Take care and stay safe All the best Robin.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely rent this home again. The house is spacious and well-suited for family time, hosting, or just relaxing. It’s furnished with a lot of historical details and ephemera which was charming and helps make the home a really interesting place to stay. One of our favorite parts was simply watching the cows graze at the nearby farm — very peaceful. The host was responsive and went out of his way to make sure everything was ready at arrival.
We had 15 people stay for three nights for a family reunion - 9 adults and 6 kids. The house worked well, as all had reasonably private spaces. The countryside is beautiful.
Visits to a lake for swimming and several local waterfalls worked well for all.
We have 20 years experience renting homes for family gatherings and this is the most interesting and amazing property. Gardens galore, plenty of space to congregate or go off by yourself, fully appointed kitchen, and comfortable space. We were a party of ten and everyone loved the experience.
Place was very interesting and eclectic! Beautiful home with many rooms and many things to look at and admire! Lots of books, Knick knacks etc.
It worked out well for the 8 of us in town for a family wedding in Sheffield. The owner, Robin was a really interesting guy and fun to talk to.
There were 6 adults and 2 infants in our party, we were in town for our 25 year high school reunion. The house was incredible and the host went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of. This place is a hidden gem and deserves all of the praise.

We look forward to seeing you again.
All the best Robin.
I'd describe the house as elegantly eclectic. The owner is clearly a collector of interesting items which they arrange in a way that enhance (rather than potentially clutter) the interior. The kitchen and living spaces are open and easy to mingle around. The four bedrooms and three bathrooms easily and comfortably accommodated two couples and two singles. Our stay could not have been better!
Beautifully renovated old farmhouse in Sheffield, MA. Very well cared for, very clean and very comfortable. We were a party of 8 adults, one child, plus two dogs. Great kitchen for cooking. Plenty of space and rooms to get away from the crowd to find some peace and quiet. It is a large property but does not feel that way. Just lovely. We arrived on a very cold day, and Robin, the owner, had fired up the wood stove to welcome us. Robin is very responsive but laid back at the same time. In other words, the perfect host. Cannot wait to go back!

The house is lovely. Cool and relaxing. We had an issue with the fireplace an hadTo evaluate. The owner was on vacation and had an assistant show us in. Did not discuss how specific the fireplaces were. We had a backdraft and had to evacuate. The owner was not concerned
A large, rambling farmhouse with many things in it. The kitchen was well-appointed. There were not so many comfortable places to sit either indoors or outdoors. The owner was very responsive. The beds could use updating. Very bucolic!
My extended family very much enjoyed our month at the farmhouse. The environs are beautiful, the farmhouse itself is well appointed and comfortable - and it and can comfortably sleep a very large number of guests. Robin was an attentive and engaging host who gave us quite a bit of local insider information which made our stay more enjoyable (for example we had a 2 1/2 year old and robin arranged for us to get a pass to local lake beach - which was a life saver on the days it was hot). In summary we throughly enjoyed our stay at the farmhouse and very much enjoyed the hospitality of the berkshires.
