About this property

Lone Wolf Lodge - in Wallowa-Whitman Nat`l Forest

Welcome to Lone Wolf Lodge, a quiet mountain retreat tucked inside the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest on the way up Dooley Mountain. Built in 2011 and renovated in 2019, this peaceful getaway offers a remote forest setting with easy access to outdoor adventure.

Set on 10 acres of mountainside and stream-bottom land, the lodge is ideal for guests who want to relax, explore, and enjoy nature. Bring your ATV, hike nearby logging roads and trails, or drive higher up the mountain to take in the views.
The home includes two main level bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with a queen bed. On the second level there is a spacious loft with a queen bed, queen sofa sleeper, and full-size futon. The large bathroom, on the main level, includes a walk-in shower as well as a washer and dryer.

The full kitchen is equipped with a dining table, stove, dishwasher, microwave, side-by-side refrigerator, coffee maker, Keurig, and French press. The kitchen opens into the living room, which offers comfortable seating and a large-screen Roku TV with free channels, plus some streaming options or you are welcomed to log into your own subscriptions. A second TV is located upstairs in the loft, and games for extra entertainment. For families traveling with little ones, a pack-n-play, highchair, and baby gate are available.

Outside, guests can enjoy the fenced yard, a rustic bench under the pines, a picnic table, and a gas grill. Enjoy your mornings sitting outdoors listening to the gurgle of the seasonal stream run and watch the sun come over the mountains. A stream runs just outside the fence behind the house, so children must be supervised when outdoors. Wildlife sightings in the area may include mule deer, wild turkeys, antelope, and elk have been seen on the hillside behind the house, with occasional sightings of other wildlife like lion, bear and wolf, farther up the mountain.

Guests have private access to the home and fenced yard, with keypad access to the driveway and smart-lock access to the house for convenient self-check-in. There is ample parking, including carport space for two vehicles.

Lone Wolf Lodge is located in the National Forest, about 14 miles from Baker City for easy access to local shops, restaurants, historic sites, and the Geiser Grand Hotel, while still giving guests the peace and privacy of a remote mountain setting. Lone Wolf Lodge is 23 miles from the Sumpter Valley Railroad area via the Elkhorn Scenic Byway, and 36 miles from Anthony Lakes.

Wi-Fi is available, along with a cellular signal booster to improve connectivity in this rural location.

Please note that this is a rustic, remote property on a gravel road in a mountainous area. During winter months (Dec - March), 4-wheel drive is recommended.

About the host

Host profile image

My husband and I are retired from our local county government about 50 miles outside of Washington DC. We live on and operate a small farm in VA where we raise poultry, beef cattle, fainting goats, bees, and a couple of dairy cows.

We travel when we can and are checking US National Parks off our bucket list.

We are lucky to have a local co-host, Veronica, should you need anything during your stay at Lone Wolf Lodge.

Why they chose this property

We chose this area because it offers a rare combination of quiet, privacy, and direct access to the natural beauty of eastern Oregon. Located inside the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest on the way up Dooley Mountain, Lone Wolf Lodge gives guests a chance to experience a peaceful mountain setting while still being within reach of Baker City, Anthony Lakes, Sumpter, and other area attractions.

The setting is rustic, remote, and peaceful, with mountains, timber, wildlife, and fresh forest air all around. We love the sense of escape here, the quiet gravel road, the nearby stream, the views, and the easy access to hiking, ATV riding, and scenic drives. It is the kind of place where guests can slow down, enjoy nature, and unwind away from the noise of everyday life.

What makes this property unique

Lone Wolf Lodge stands out because it offers a true forest getaway with both comfort and adventure. Tucked along a quiet road at the edge of Forest Service roads, the property gives guests direct access to outdoor recreation while also providing a comfortable place to relax and recharge. With its mountain setting, fenced yard, stream nearby, and easy access to Dooley Mountain, it offers an experience that feels private, memorable, and distinctly eastern Oregon.

Note: We are on a community-maintained road about 1 mile off the main road. Because of this and the mountainous location, 4-wd drive vehicles are suggested Dec thru March. At times, we get accumulating snow when Baker only gets a dusting.
