The caretaker's cottage is occupied by master gardener and long-time resident JRo. He's on-call if needed and ensures you are oriented, happy and well-cared for, all while offering you total privacy.

The home is part of a small cluster of roughly 35 homes along the coast in a small grid of four roads. This small enclave is then surrounded by three large forest reserves, three state parks, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and virgin open spaces so tranquil that one of the largest dwellings in the area is the nearby Buddhist Monastery.
This is a very lush and secluded area. You will here coqui frogs sing through most of the night. There are no street lights, so flashlights and headlamps can be helpful.
We are minutes from the active lava flow at Kalapana and Hot Ponds of Ahalanui Park. Enjoy the nearby Kapoho Tide Pools and admire the beautiful formations at the Lava Tree State Park.
