About this property
Scenic Getaway with Private Indoor Pool/Hot Tub on the GAP trail
Escape to Mount Savage Farm in the Allegheny Mountains of Western Maryland. Relax and appreciate the serenity of an 80 acre farm overlooking the small town of Mount Savage, MD.
The farm is a destination in itself with an indoor heated swimming pool, outdoor hot tub, gas fireplace, outdoor brick patio with grill and fire pit, and plenty of space to wander, find solitude, and watch the wildlife. Behind the house and up past the pond, is direct access to the Greater Alleghany Passage (GAP) hike and bike trail. Situated at mile marker 11 of the 150 mile trail, there is ample opportunity to hike, bike and enjoy the scenic views on one of the premier trails of the east coast. Check out the opportunities at https://gaptrail.org
The spacious historic brick home was built in the 1820s and has a classic feel. There are 5 bedrooms including one family style room with a queen and trundle bed, 3 full baths, a family room and a formal living room with a piano, a well-appointed kitchen, a dining room that seats 12, and an office/sunroom on the second floor with spectacular views. This is a brand new listing and we are currently updating and rearranging, making it more usable and comfortable for our guests. The layout of the house will stay the same so the current pictures give you an excellent overview.
For railroad enthusiasts, the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad shares the GAP trail and passes through the property on its way from Cumberland, MD to Frostburg. Be sure to take a ride on the railroad and look for Mount Savage Farm as you pass by! For more adventure, do some railbiking - pedaling along the steel railroad tracks with your friends and family.
For those who like to venture, there is much to see and do within an hour driving distance of the farm. This mountainous region of western Maryland and Pennsylvania is home to ten state parks with expansive views, hiking trails, white water rafting and lakes for boating and fishing. Wisp and Seven Springs Resorts offer skiing in the winter and outdoor adventures such as zip lining and mountain coasters in the summer. Rocky Gap Casino is a short drive down the highway.
The Flight 93 Memorial is located 37 miles away across the Pennsylvania state line. Also in Pennsylvania, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwaters, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just over an hour’s drive.
For dining and shopping, the quaint town of Frostburg is less than ten minutes away and has several excellent restaurants and breweries. It is home to Frostburg State University, making this an ideal get away for families coming to visit. A little further down the road is historic Cumberland, MD. This is where the GAP Trail begins and the 184 mile C&O Canal towpath trail from Washington D.C. ends.
For everyone's security, we have three cameras. One is located on the side porch overlooking the driveway, one is located looking out the back of the house and one is in the pool area.
