About this property
Hood Canal waterfront oasis with deep water dock
Wake up to the best of Hood Canal on your own private beach across the water from Alderbrook resort. Enjoy all that the PNW has to offer: clams, mussels, and oysters fresh from the sea; kayak or paddle board with views of the Mountains and Puget Sound; meet the local wildlife of seals, eagles, and otters.
Book the perfect getaway in nature with all the comforts of home. Soak in the natural light, views from every window, and the large wrap-around deck with bulkhead stairs leading directly down to the beach. Grill on the barbeque, cook up a feast in the fully-equipped brand new kitchen, and end your evening with a breath-taking sunset, fireside s’mores, and a nightcap under the stars. A great entertaining house, perfect for groups up to 10 people.
This home has rare privacy on both sides, with 100 feet of waterfront. It also has one of the few deep-water docks on Hood Canal, just refurbished with new composite material. Even at the lowest tide, the inside boat slip stays above 5 feet of water; off the outside of the dock, always +10 feet of water. The dock is perfect for fishing, water activities, and observing sea life.
This area is a 20 minute drive to downtown Belfair for QFC/Safeway and ~40 minutes to Alderbrook Resort or Union for great meals and drinks; by boat ~5 minutes. Excellent hikes and golf are within 15-30 minute drive including Gold Mountain, White Horse, and Chambers Bay (60 minutes).

Had a great long weekend with extended family, lots of swimming, kayaking, fishing and watching the local wildlife.
The place was well equipped, best kitchen setup we've ever gotten at a rental property.

Thanks for the feedback, Robert! We're glad you enjoyed your stay. The stairs to the water should always be approached with caution for elderly and young children, accompanied by other adults. We have never had any issues and have elderly grandparents and young kids (accompanied by adults) that have regularly used those stairs.
Packed up the fam and escaped to the sound for a quick summer stay. The location is wonderful with lots to do (hiking, kayaking, boating, golf, etc etc), or you could just shuck some oysters, open some wine, and take in the view.
Just a heads up, I’m not sure the property would work as well for groups as the floor plan doesn’t offer much privacy. Make sure you understand the layout before booking.
Would love to have had more indoor seating too. The main living area has a tremendous built in bench/couch area but the cushions are pretty stiff and uncomfortable. If we had a bigger groups we would have been hard pressed to all have a comfortable spot.

Thanks for the feedback Nathan! We’ve brought in more designated indoor chairs for those bigger groups, and have the cushion update on the to-do list this winter - while the 70’s charm of the conversation pit is quite wonderful, we agree the cushions could use some modernizing! So glad you and your family enjoyed otherwise.
We throughly enjoyed our stay! The house was perfect for our family of 8. The kitchen was well stocked, great options for water adventures, views for days. We loved the location as it allowed us to day trip to all of our bucket list locations. We easily traveled to Olympic National Park, Tacoma, Seattle, Port Angeles, Sequim (Lavender Haze Lavender farm) and Union/Belfair. While we collected many memories from our day trips, our favorite memories will be our time spent at the house. Peaceful, quiet and noisy laughter from our family. The seals gave us a show every night…on our last day, our daughter was resting on her paddle board and a seal jumped up on it! What a memory!! We also saw eagles and managed to catch and release a few fish. We will miss this house, but take lots of fond memories with us! Until our next visit…..THANK YOU!!!!
We had a great time together as a family here. We definitely made some great memories here and conquered some goals. There was a lot of fishing, and being out on the water. It was fun to see the wildlife that was in the canal. We saw and heard seals, we watched jellyfish and fish, and spotted a few starfish as the tide was low. We visited Olympic while we were there and it is about 2 hours away so if you are wanting to visit Olympic this house is a little far.
The nights were cool but the days were still a little warm. It seemed the A/C couldn’t keep up to keep the place cool. The upstairs was really warm at night. It might be helpful to offer some box fans to cool off the upstairs at night.
This house sleeps 8 comfortably but 12 is a little too much for the space. Most of the rooms are open with very little privacy.
The owner was responsive with questions that we had about the house when we arrived.

Thanks for staying with us, Kristin! We are so glad you and your family had great times at the Canal and got to experience the PNW waters and sea life!
Thanks for the suggestion on fans. We’ve just purchased one for each upstairs room.
We agree 8-10 is a more comfortable number, and offer up to 12 in cases where kids are comfortable sleeping on the blow up mattresses or sleeping bags to accommodate the full family.
Olympic National Park is a trek but amazing. The Southwest facing Staircase Nature Trails entrance is closer (~1 hour and 15) but we see parts of highway 101 were closed during your visit making north best route. We will ensure its super clear in guidebook so people have right expectations.
Thanks again for the feedback and for visiting our Hood Canal spot!

Pros– The location is absolutely incredible — that’s really what you’re paying for.– The dock is fantastic if you have a boat.– We saw seals, otters, even orcas, and had excellent fishing for salmon, flounder, and dogfish.– Plenty of oysters, mussels, and clams right off the beach.– Kitchen is nicely updated and generally well stocked.– Owners were responsive and pleasant to work with.Cons– AC isn’t strong enough to cool the house, making upstairs rooms unusable on warm days. The heat also affects the ice maker and is made worse by the dryer venting inside.– Many windows and sliding doors are sticky or broken; blinds don’t function.– Couch cushions and carpets are stained; towels smelled musty; dish towels were few and very worn.– No hot tub as advertised.– Stairs to the beach are unsafe without shoes (oysters and barnacles).– Dock has no ladder, so swimming from it is difficult.– Umbrella is broken, leaving little shade during the day.– Upstairs shower drain is very slow, and the downstairs shower lights only work intermittently.– Garage door opener doesn’t work, and there are no clear instructions for supplies or general use.– Windows are dirty; outdoor spaces off bedrooms have no furniture, so they go unused.Bottom lineThe setting is five-star, but at 700 per night the home itself doesn’t meet expectations. With more consistent upkeep and attention to amenities, this could be an amazing rental, but as it stands, it feels overpriced for the condition
I grew up going to this area of Hood Canal since I was 7 years old. It's always been a special place for us to host family and friends with the best of the Pacific Northwest waters, beaches, and mountains. Now we can share it with our guests! My wife Amanda and I live in Seattle area and love sharing our place for others to have amazing experiences and create new memories at Hood Canal.
Why they chose this property
Hood Canal is a special place being less than 2 hours from Seattle and 90 minutes from Seatac, you get the best of the Northwest. Alderbrook Resort is directly across the water. This is the part of Hood Canal that Seattle families like the Gates and Nordstrom's have been coming for decades to escape city life and retreat to the best of the Pacific Northwest. This location is semi private with sun light majority of the day, both high and low tides daily for best of water activities and seafood (mussels, clams, oysters and fishing).
Amazing hikes and Golf Courses like Gold Mountain are only 30 minutes away. Olympic National Forrest is 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on the part of the park you travel to for hiking. Though most of memories and our guests choose to spend majority of their times at the place enjoying being together at Hood Canal.
What makes this property unique
The location is directly across the Canal from the Alderbrook Resort. It has one of the few deep water docks on Hood Canal for seafood, fishing, and water activities. Even docking a < 30 foot boat overnight. The property is private with neighboring houses set back from this property that extends out over a bulkhead leaving a feeling of almost being over the water with stairs leading down to the beach. The mid century modern design of the Hood Canal Home offers unique angles and expansive views of the Canal salt waters with lots of light. Note this spot is for families and friends that enjoy being together. This is not for people looking for separate private rooms apart but for family and friends that want to experience the Hood Canal days together.
