Waterfront suite in upscale Barra

This fabulous waterfront studio suite in the up scale canal area of Barra boasts spectacular views of the water, mountains and famous Grand Bay Hotel.
It is one of three suites in Villa Santa Barbara and sleeps 2 people. You can add another suite for more people.
The pool is directly in front of this suite and there is another outdoor kitchen adjoining t with gas bbq,fridge and full size stove with out door bathroom and shower.
There is a palapa with bar for shade and a grand terrace with lots of space for lounging on comfy patio furniture.
Inside the suite there is a comfortable king size bed(not concrete),private bathroom with huge shower and a well equipped small kitchen with full size fridge and two stove top burners.
About 8:am the french baker will come by the dock and you can enjoy fresh baked goods delivered each morning by boat Nov to March
Eat Tacos in the village, surf the warm water, enjoy a picnic on the beach, shop the weekly market or nap in the hammock. We also offer painting classes,email for details.
How about a manicure,pedicure or message? A car is optional, we are close enough to walk to everywhere but far enough away you will not hear the traffic and noise from town. It is about an eight to ten minute walk to town or a 3 minute cab ride or water taxi ride from your own dock. There is a pickle ball court nearby.
It is perfect for family reunions,friends get away and we have 2 addition suites as well, one for 2 to 4 people and a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom Penthouse suite that can sleep up to six.
There are many different kinds of birds surrounding this beautiful Villa,they start singing around 5:00 pm.
Enjoy a traditional Mexican dinner cooked for you by locals along with other guests or take a sunset cruise or snorkeling tour in a private ponga.You are far enough away from the center of things that you will hear nothing except boats. It is all within walking distance of beaches,restaurants and night life,no car necessary. You can get all you need in the way of groceries and there are many great places to eat, everything from the best inexpensive taco stands to high end dining. If you are looking to get way from business of the big city and want it all in a smaller setting, this is the place!Managers are available on site to help need 24 hours 12 months a year and will be there to greet you with beverages and snacks upon arrival your arrival November through April 30th

Quiet place to rest and relax!

Barb and Barry are most solicitous hosts and help visitors make the most of their holiday stay. They are very knowledgeable of the music and restaurant scene in Barra and environs. Accommodations are very clean and comfortable. The addition of water taxis and the French Baker every day make this a standout vacation setting!

The best place to stay in Barra!

Villa Santa Barbara was such a gem to find! Not only are Barb and Barry the friendliest hosts we've ever had but they made our vacation amazing. They have been spending time in Barra for over 12 years and they know the area extremely well. All of their recommendations for restaurants, beaches, stores and things to do were amazing. The Villa itself is also fantastic. We stayed in the Junior Suite and it had everything we needed (full bathroom, kitchen, fridge, water cooler with drinking water, comfortable king size bed). The Villa is located on the canal and it either a quick 10 minute walk into town or a 3 minute water taxi to the action downtown(20 pesos each way). The French Baker that comes by boat each morning was also a fabulous treat. If you are looking to really experience Barra, stay here! You will not find better hosts or a better place to stay. We can't wait to come back!

very relaxing

hi we stayed in the junior suite and it was perfect for a couple. it was nice to be able to come out our sliding doors and in to the pool. pool loungers were very comfortable and when it was too hot the papa was nice and cool. Barb and Barry were excellent hosts and we really enjoyed their company. They were professional but also friendly. They try hard to meet any of your needs and are full of information about Barra. Having access to bicycles was really great as we used them all the time but everything is also within walking distance. There is an outdoor kitchen as well that I used to make breakfast but was well equipped for everything. I loved waiting on the dock in the morning for the french Baker who really does have the most delicious pastries. Our room had everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable. Barb also left us food and drinks in the fridge for when we arrived which was great after a long travel day.

Excellent "home away from home" first class host and hostess and great neighbors. After a missed connection to get to Barra arrived late to find a drinks and a chicken dinner prepared foe me. Barbara and Barry are first class , gracious hosts and made my stay very comfortable. The neighbors Will and Diana were great just a warm friendly atmosphere all around . Thank you

As a woman on my own travelling, Barb and Barry were great hosts and had no qualms with my constant barrage of questions. We had a wonderful stay at Villas Santa Barbara. It’s a beautiful spot with all the comforts and facilities that you would expect to find at a 5 star resort, only this is a private little get away with wonderful hosts. Barb and Barry create an atmosphere that makes it feel like you’re hanging out with old friends. Always willing to provide friendly advice and great suggestions about where to go and what to do. A great team! We would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to all our friends.

Just returned from our stay at Villa Santa Barbara. We had a great time. We stayed in the junior suite which was well equipped. The location was perfect, only 10 minute walk to the beach. Barbara and Barry were just great and really helpful. Our flight got in late so Barbara left dinner for us in the fridge which we really appreciated. Villa Santa Barbara is serene and close to everything, it was exactly as described on the listing, clean and well maintained. We would definitely go back there again.

We loved it at Villa Santa Barbara in Barra de Navidad!! My husband and I spent 8 nights there and we really enjoyed it!! I would recommend anyone to stay there and when we go back, we will defiantly stay there again!! Barbara is so helpful and fun to be around. All their suites are well maintained, clean and very comfy! She has lot's of knowledge of the area and made our stay so relaxing!! The water taxi right from our dock is so convenient and easy to get around. It's like our home away from home!! Cheers, Jane

Absolutely fantastic!

Barb and Barry were warm and friendly hosts that went the extra mile to make sure we had a great and fun stay. The place was fantastic - the pool (cleaned daily!) and palapa area were great for some private lounging (or eating treats from the French Baker brought to the dock) before getting on a water taxi to take you directly to town and the beach. Walking to town was easy and quick too. The room was very clean, well decorated, and well stocked -the welcome beers and guacamole were a real treat. Barra is a great town to relax in, laid back and still very Mexican with lovely beaches and reasonable prices. Words can't do justice to how much we loved Barra and Barb and Barry's place. Highly recommended!

Colourful, caring and comfy!

This place is delightful as are the hosts/owners Barb and Barry. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. Barb and Barry are kind and thoughtful and made our stay absolutely wonderful. The kitchen in our place was stocked with the culinary tools one might need to make any meal, the rooms were very clean and homey and the grounds were very well kept. We used the bikes to bike around Barra a few times, enjoyed treats from The French Baker who stopped in every morning with yummy baked goods, cooled off in the pool daily, enjoyed watching the boats passing by in the canal, read and relaxed in the outdoor lounge chairs, watched the lovely sunsets, used the outdoor areas...kitchen, bar, palapa...and in general could not think of a better place we could have stayed. Barry and Barb know where to go for the things we needed, offered good advice on delicious restaurants, shops to visit, market day, local entertainment and on top of that, made us laugh. Overall, we highly recommend this place. It is close to town, tastefully decorated in warm colours and funky art pieces created by the owners and just a really neat place to call home while enjoying a stay in a quaint Mexican town.

Best place, people and food!

This vacation was taken to celebrate becoming 65 years old. What a thoroughly enjoyable time! Villa Santa Barbara in Barra de Navidad, Mexico is an oasis...a gem offering a peaceful, safe and cultural exoerience. Water taxis come to your dock to drop you off at any number of fabulous, inexpensive restaurants. The French Baker brings fresh pastries every morning to the dock as well.. Dora, Erindira, Judy and Norma are 4 of the lovely local women who provide cleaning, cooking, beauty and massage services without you having to leave the premises!! Some noteworthy restaurants are Senor Froy's, Bananas, Simone's, Marlena's, Ramone's and many more!! I felt very safe wandering around the streets of Barra de Navidad. The people are friendly and helpful. The feeling of safety snd security extends into the gated property of Villa Santa Barbara where the sunrises snd sunsets are spectacular from the rooftop. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable and the pool is just the right temoerature! The outdoor kitchen is a great idea to keep the heat out of the suites and to promote camaraderie with the other guests should you choose to make a meal together. Lots of fun!! Come by yourself, with a friend or a whole group of family or friends to experience true hospitality from the warm, welcoming and wonderful Canadian hosts Barry and Barb. They go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable and memorable as possible with lots of good suggestions for places to go and things to do...or stay on the premises for a chat with the hosts and great people you meet at Villa Santa Barbara.. Dinner and your favourite cocktail are waiting for you when you first arrive too!! Go and experience this "little piece of heaven" for yourself. It's well worth it!! Thanks Barb and Barry!! Little Piece of Paradise

My wife and I just returned from a two week stay at Villa Santa Barbara and enjoyed every minute. Our gracious hosts were very accommodating and went out of their way to ensure we had a great experience! This is a beautiful spot in a great area of Mexico and I would recommend this place to anyone.

Lovely home away from home!

This is my 2nd time staying with Barb & Barry. They are fantastic hosts. From having someone pick us from the airport to having our favorite cocktail waiting for us. The fridge also had some lovely food in it so we didn't have to worry as soon as we arrived. I would stay there again, it is a nice 10 minute walk to town. The view from the Villa is fantastic. There is a Bar/restaurant and big pool, at a Resort 5 minutes away if you want to grab something to eat and don't want to cook! I went one week with a friend and one week alone. Perfect place to stay alone or with someone! I miss it already! ❤️

Relax and enjoy!

What an absolutely wonderful week away!! After a very long day of travel it was such a welcome surprise to have a full dinner in the fridge waiting for us - lasagna, salad, bread, chips, salsa, beer and wine! It was so much appreciated to be able to unpack and unwind and not worry about getting supplies or going out. That's what we call super hosts (Barb and Barry)!! As for the villa it was just perfect - the pool, the palapa, the kitchen, the bed, the loungers were all excellent. Extremely clean and well kept! The location is on a canal and every morning the french baker comes by with the best almond croissants I've ever had. A nice start to the day - coffee and croissant pool side with a good book. The little town of Barra is charming with lots of great places to eat and wander around. We were easily able to walk to the town or if too tired a water taxi was easily available. We also took the local bus to the beach at La Manzanilla - a great beach not too far away! Villa Santa Barbara was the best place to come back to after a day tripping around the area. Next time we come we will for sure book more than 1 week. Thank you again for sharing your villa and your time as you were always available to answer any of our questions. It was such a help in making our trip a great one!

Great location and suite

We stayed in this junior suite for two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed it as well as the pool and loungers overlooking the canal, a very relaxing location. Barb and Barry are wonderful people and very attentive; she even ordered us the most excellent bread and cheese foccacia!! Whenever they were going out, they asked if they could pick anything up for us, very kind! The walk to the restaurants is approximately 15 minutes, right to the heart of Barra. We never felt unsafe and always walked back to VSB at night.

Great place to stay!

Villa Santa Barbara is a great place to stay while visiting Barra de Navidad. It's quiet, comfortable, close to the village, and it's on the canal where one can meet a boat taxi. The kitchen is complete and the beds are very comfortable. Fans throughout keep the villa comfortable. Lots of outside lounging areas. Even has AC [which we didn't use and it was HOT for November]. The pool is so great. Wonderful way to cool off. We were there right after a hurricane and everything was getting back in order. Barra is a wonderful village to visit and just down the road or beach is Melaque which is bigger. The hosts are very nice and helpful.

Relaxing Time in Barra

Hi..my wife and i just spent 5 nights at Villa Santa Barbara and LOVED IT! The hosts were exceptional and the property was immaculate...quick walk to Barra's downtown but a quiet refuge if you just wanted to hang around the Villa and read; sunbathe and take a nap! Highly recommended...Todd & Lea

5 star hacienda

This is a 5 star hacienda-peace, tranquility, and comfort all wrapped in a little piece of paradise. If you want quiet, except the sound of tropical birds and fishing boats putting by, this is for you. A Diamond in the rough not far from the beach or town and then there is Barb and Barry!The most gracious, knowlegdable, accomodating hosts you will ever meet. From having our first meal prepared for us (including asking about food allergies), to the cerveza in the fridge and margaritas on arrival! Best service ever. Attention to detail is superb. This was exactly what we were seeking out and guarantee we will return.

We'll be back in 2016

In 2014, my husband and I stayed a week at Villa Santa Barbara before moving to another place where we had stayed for many years. We liked it so much, we decided to spend our whole vacation (5 weeks) at VSB in 2015. We are so happy we did. On arrival, our kitchen was stocked with a delicious meal, beer, and wine, allowing us to simply relax and enjoy our first night in our beautiful suite. The next morning The French Bakery boat came right up to the dock with a variety of croissants, pastries, and pies. And Barb and Barry are there to answer any questions and make suggestions if asked. They really are the perfect hosts. I was a little afraid that I would miss the ocean view we had in our prior accomodations. We soon discovered the view from VSB is just as beautiful and even more interesting. Watching the comings and goings of the fisherman in the canal, the sailboats in the lagoon, the yachts in the marina, and all the birds and fish entertained us everyday. At the same time, it is MUCH quieter than being on the beach near bars. If relaxing isn't your thing, you can be as busy as you like. If you have been to the Barra/Melaque area you already know that the entertainment options are plentiful. There are lots of tours, sporting options, music venues, and so many eating and drinking establishments that we couldn't try them all in 5 weeks. Every year, I make a point to talk to people who are well traveled and ask them about their favorite places. I have yet to meet someone who didn't think that Barra/Melaque was one of the best. And for us, Villa Santa Barbara is the best place to stay.

Everything we needed and more ! Casa Santa Barbara

My husband and I had a great stay at Casa Santa Barbara November 21 - November 27th, 2014. We arrived by water taxi to their house located on the canal in Barra de Navidad. We reserved the junior suite which is exactly as advertised. It has a very comfy king size bed that looks out over the pool and canal. The private bath has a shower and fluffy towels as well as a sink and toilet. There is also a kitchen area that has sink, pots and pans , dishes , some condiments and a microwave and fridge. Barry and Barb are excellent hosts and think of everything to make your stay more pleasant. We arrived later in the day and Barb had some fresh fruit , cold beer and 1/2 a cooked chicken waiting for us in our suite . Very thoughtful and we really appreciated their efforts. The pool is clean and refreshing and so nice to come back to after a hot day exploring Barra. Their outdoor barbeque kitchen area is great and there is also another bathroom and shower available for the use of their guests. When we stayed there were other guests staying in the suite next to us. We ended up having a great time with them and exchanged info and plan on keeping in touch. One evening we had a great barbeque with the Mahi Mahi I brought back from the fish market. The walk into town is pretty short. Barb and Barry recommend you take a cab back after dark . We traveled to Melaque to the flea market. It was interesting but I think you can probably find everything in the shops at pretty much the same price unless you know what things should cost. We rented a car 1 day just down the road from Casa Santa Barbara from Crazy Cactus. That was fun and the roads are very good. We would recommend Casa Santa Barbara and Barra de Navida as a nice relaxing place to visit and vacation. Be aware though that the canal can get very busy at 4am when the fishermen leave to go fishing. If I had the ceiling fan on in our room I really didn't hear them. Barb and Barry are great people and they have a lovely place they share with their visitors.

Wonderful hideaway

Very personable hosts with plentiful tips on restaurants, dependable taxi's, shopping and local events. Lots of TV channels in English, strong internet, full kitchen facilities and lots of small touches (ice maker, bicycles, comfy beds, BBQ grills, juicer, bakery & water deliveries) and well decorated to make things pleasant. Ideal for a group of friends for a getaway an ideal base to explore the region from.

Our Best Mexican Vacation Yet!

Mexico is a wonderful country to visit with its rich and colourful history and friendly people. And, Villa Santa Barbara in the quaint village of Barra de Navida is a wonderful, relaxing and peaceful place to set down roots for a month. The Villa was everything it was advertised to be and more. The owners, Barb and Barry, went out of their way to make us feel at home. Besides being extremely friendly and personable, they are excellent hosts. Although they were staying in the Villa at the same time as us, we never felt uncomfortable, in fact, it was like they were other quests from home. We found the accommodations had everything we needed. The maid cleaned our suite twice weekly which was included in the cost. The Villa was extremely clean and well kept. It's obvious that Barb and Barry care about the property and its ongoing maintenance. Sitting around the pool in front of our Junior Suite and watching the boats and fisherman coming and going on the canal was entertaining. The pool is the cleanest I have ever seen in Mexico. What a treat to jump in the pool and cool off after a walk "home" from the village centre. One feature of this Villa is its location. Its very quiet. We had no dogs barking all night, no traffic noise, no noisy roosters and neighbours who don't play loud music and party all night. Barra has a multitude of restaurants, stores and shops. We especially enjoyed the restaurant called Besame Mucho. We had several excellent meals there. And close to Barra are the villages of Melaque, Villa Obregon, San Patricio and Cihuatlan where you can explore other shops, restaurants and stores. Everything is available nearby. We also traveled four hours by bus to visit the beautiful, colonial city of Colima. You have to see it and visit the museum, colonial palace, shops and restaurants there - you won't regret it. Overall, we had a wonderful time and will not hesitate to recommend Barra and Villa Santa Barbara to our friends.

Awesome stay

I so enjoyed my stay at Villa Barbara's. The accomadations were 5 star all the way. Being situated on the canal gave a constant cooling breeze and the pool was fabulous. Everything was top notch, especially the care taker's, Connie and Gary, who were awesome. I have finally found my home away from home and will return next year. The suite had every convienience. I could not improve on this property in any way.

The dream of having a place in Mexico started to come true in 2007 when the decision was made build a wonderful vacation rental on the water to share. After vacationing here, we seen a serious lack of vacation accommodations that were well stocked with all the comforts of home so we decided if we are going to do this it has to be perfect. Having a career in the service industry helped us to think of every detail so everyone could enjoy and have a perfect vacation on this large waterfront property accessible by car, bikes, walking or boat.

Why they chose this property

There is only two other unique properties like this on the pacific coast,the two others are private homes and they are both in Barra.This lot became available one day and I bought it the next.There is water on two of three sides,there are no cars yet you can travel by car,boat or walk to everything within eight minutes.There is peace and quiet and beauty surrounding the entire property.

What makes this property unique

This property has it's own private dock with it's own privite ponga(boat)that most others do not have.There is many different species of birds that fly over head down the canals at dusk,it is beautiful!
