Retreat: If you want to get away from Denver for a long weekend, or stay for a month as you write a novel, Big Rock Mountain House welcomes you to a brand new, modern, gorgeous mountain home that is casual, comfortable and custom designed to be a contemporary cabin experience. You will be surrounded by nature, tall pines, firs, wild large and small animals. Go to the bottom of the property, look up, and see that you are literally on a BIG ROCK. Sit in the 8 person spa under the stars. Take a bath in the 6 foot 7 jet spa for two located in the master bath, look out the window and have a glass of wine. Sit on the balcony and look at the 180 degree mountain views. Rock on the back patio in huge log rockers or relax on a lounger.

Hikers and Anglers Welcome: The house overlooks The Lost Creek Wilderness. Hike the property--on one side, climb down the rock outcrop. On the other side, climb through a dense alpine forest to the plateau below overlooking the river valley. There are many other places to hike. Hike to South Twin Cone Peaks, Platte Peak, Payne Benchmark. Take a drive and go to Kenosha Pass, Windy Peak, The Castle, The Taryall Mountains, Puma Peak, or Mount Evans Wilderness to name a few. Anglers can fish in the river below but access is from Bailey and must be on public land. Or you can go to Pine, Shawnee, Boxwood Gulch, Blue River, Long Meadow, Chatfield Reservoir or many other fishing holes near and far. For details, check with The Knotty Pine in Bailey.

Great spot
My wife and I worked remotely from this home for the week. Great spot. There is a limit on internet usage that we were not planning on (used my ATT plan and my wife used the house wifi). Overall the house was amazing and VERY well stocked. The kitchen had everything (and was in great condition). Lotsa puzzles in the pantry also if you are a puzzle person. Comfy beds also (which is something you do notice as you get older like us). The housekeeper/cleaner was top notch also and it was obvious she took great pride in her work. Definitely recommend to anyone staying in the area / wanting somewhere cool outside of Denver.

Another great stay
Second time we stayed here and everything was clean and well maintained. Great view. Internet was a little slow through satellite, but to be expected on location. Could still stream through Roku. Direct TV onsite.

An Exceptional Property
We have stayed at many VRBO's and can honestly say this property is exceptional. As advertised, very clean, very well appointed, comfortable and a world class view. A great home for relaxation and access to the beautiful mountains of Colorado.

Breathtaking Views
This house is amazing, very well stocked with everything you need for cooking and relaxing. Very clean and in top condition. The road to get to the house is a little intimidating at first, but we adjusted throughout the week. It would be best if you have a rental car to get an SUV. The views of the mountains are amazing, I could just sit and look out the window or from the patio for hours. The hot tub was just what we needed after traveling and hiking. Will definitely stay at this place again when back in Colorado! We did three shows at Red Rocks, and it was about a 45 minute drive. Denver is about an hour away.

About the host

I have always loved Colorado. We use to drive for 16 hours when I was in college just to spend a long weekend in the mountains. When my kids were growing up, we would all go and everyone loved the change of scenery from the hills of Central Texas to the majestic Rockies. When I told my family 'I don't know why I bought land and built a house in Colorado', my daughter reminded me 'Dad, you love Colorado, we always went there as kids'. It made perfect sense to her. I do love Colorado and so will you.

Why they chose this property

Incredible. Overlooking the Lost Creek Wilderness with 180 degree unobstructed views of National Forest. Yet, only 1 hour from the big city and 1 hour and 20 minutes from downhill skiing. You can't find beauty like this just anywhere.

What makes this property unique

7.4 acres of mountain property in a natural wilderness area with all the amenities of a modern home. Clean air, quiet, nature all around.
