About this property

Landmark Lake Home Remodeled

Beautiful lake home on the North shore of Little McDonald Lake, which is an excellent fishing lake and a Trophy Walleye Lake. A totally separate, clean, quiet, private, secure, bright, classy, comfortable, 900 sq foot guest house. House was remodeled inside and out in 2016. Amazing views of the lake & sunsets. Lakeside deck with seating/gas grill & bonfire area, big dock w/boat tie up, dock fishing, excellent beach w/dive raft, snorkel gear, canoe & crazy clean water. Loons will put you to sleep and birds will wake you up. Very relaxing!
The space
New, clean, comfortable, private and quiet. The space is totally separate from the main house and accessed through two of its own exterior doors. One faces a patio with fire pit, garage, driveway and front yard; the second faces the lake and you step onto the huge deck, grill area, yard and access to lakefront. There is 3rd lockable door that separates the space from the main house. 4th locked door on opposite end of hallway also separates owner side from space...so double doors separate spaces for added privacy. Large front entryway with huge closet is adjacent to Full Kitchen with beautiful Cedar woodwork throughout. Kitchen is open to living room and has 11 windows with lake and garden views galore! Kitchen is furnished really well... Kurig machine, pizza oven, microwave, toaster, paper and real dishes, spices and a blender in addition to all the normal kitchen stuff. French Doors are the entrance into a cool, dark, large cedar bedroom with big awning windows, air conditioning, ceiling fan and dark shades, it faces the living room and lake. There is a quality new queen size bed in the bedroom, two dressers, large closet filled with clean cotton towels & lots of extra bedding. Separate Electric heat controls for all rooms. Ceiling fans with up lights in bedroom and living room. Separate/private bathroom with large walk in rain shower, bathroom fan on timer and lots of hooks to hang towels. There is a table and 2 chairs near the kitchen with 2 more chairs to add from the bedroom. Two barstools, two leather chairs, a leather couch and coffee table make a cozy living room with an amazing view. The abundance of pillows and bedding will make it comfy for one person on the couch, two more on a queen size bed, one on a twin and two on a queen...air beds with built in fans for easy inflating/deflating. The Bose HomLink has great sound and is bluetooth friendly. The TV is a smart TV. WiFi is fast! The space allows older children but is NOT child proof nor child friendly! All children require consent adult supervision. This is a lake home with a dock and a lake!
Guest access
The lake is one of the areas cleanest and premier lakes, beach, dock, 2 fire pits and entire yard is yours to enjoy. It’s a very large and beautiful property. The lake has excellent pan fishing, Bass and trophy Walleye fishing. There are really comfortable chairs by fire pits and Weber gas grill on the deck. You can enjoy all of the yard, deck, fire pits, dock & lake. There is a place to tie up a boat or pontoon and the public access is walking distance. I have lots of parking space in a big circle driveway. There are several towns near here with lots of shops, grocery stores, liquor, bait, bars and restaurants. Nice walking on quiet paved roads adjacent to property. A new bike path makes long rides convenient.
Other things to note...
Walk down to the dock or the end of the driveway to see a night sky to be remembered! The Big Dipper never looked this close!
I am a big outdoorsman, I can help with hunting, fishing, golfing and more. I like to take guests fishing and am willing to even teach them how to fish, tie knots, what to use for bait, how to clean fish. All equipment supplied if I am your guide.

I'm going to make sure you have a great time, so you don’t hesitate to give me a 5 Star rating and come back soon!
***5 Star approvals from every guest/over 30 guests, in the last several years!!!

I own an English Setter named Alton, he is all puppy and liable to do puppy things like steal a shoe, jump to eat your sandwich or grab a water bottle, just be dog friendly as he lives here with me. He is an adorable, loving, happy, outdoors dog who loves children, swimming and anyone who will play with him. No, you cannot take him home with you as some have tried lol. He has a HALO collar so he needs to stay in the yard and close to the dock when swimming. Please see rules regarding him. Do not let him in your space please. If he is causing any havoc, please let me know.
Identity of guests as well as having read House Manual will be requested by all guests. Whoever books the space is responsible for all guests, so please know the rules and inform your crew, as everyone is required to behave appropriately.
Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am. Any questions, please ask.

Wonderful Lake Getaway

Our family wanted to explore the Detroit Lakes area and this was a great fit. After a day of exploring some great places, this cabin was great to return to and take a refreshing dip in the lake. It was a great place for our family to relax and spend some down time together.

Excellent views and comfort

The view of the lake from the back yard is beautiful! Relaxing on the dock with a fire at sunset is truly incredible. A peaceful and serene place to sit and have a cocktail, waving at passing boats and listening to the sound of birds chirping sets a mood that is hard to beat. I would definitely recommend a weekend stay at this location.

When we arrived Tom was shirtless, had a brown stain on back of his shorts, slurred speech, and had an undisclosed dog at his residence. He listed a different dog by the name of Loomis on the site, this dog that was there was named Alton, and when we arrived the dog attacked and lunged at my daughter. The dog’s hair became imbedded in her glasses and she had an instant bump on her forehead with pain on her nose and head. I picked her up and told the owner this is not ok. My husband had to grab the dogs collar as Tom did nothing but respond with “my dog lives here so”,he had a passive aggressive demeanor, took the dog in for a few minutes and then released the dog outside again. the dog was pacing outside the two entrances we were inside of. It jumped on my husband, me, and other two children in this short time. We left for fear of safety due to his actions after the incident and how he refused to contain his aggressive dog. This is unacceptable behavior from dog and man, owner did not properly disclose this information accurately on site(as well as other things I noted after we left). The dog pacing around our windows was a sign this dog was aggressive, or doing a dominant response to my daughter. We own a dog, she is human friendly. This man sent a message to me saying we are not pet friendly and that is why we left. He did not care one bit about my daughter’s injury. Beware of this host and dog, go elsewhere. He is covering this up and lieing to VRBO. Reach outtomeformore.

Girls Weekend Success

This is a great place to stay for girls weekend! There were four of us, we had plenty of room and we were all comfortable. We got to check in early, free of charge which was awesome! The rental was very clean. There was no trace of pet hair or dander like a previous review suggested. The shoreline was nice and flat which made access to the lake very easy. There was no sand for kids to play, however, the lake appeared to have a nice sand bottom. The doc was large, geat for sunbathing, there were even some nice lounge chairs out for us to use. This was a great location with great shopping and restaurants 10 mi away. My only recommendation would be to add blinds, shades or curtains to the wall of windows in the living room. The view of the lake is beautiful however, it got pretty hot during the day and I felt like it lacked privacy at night. The hot tub wasn't working which was a bummer. The grill wasn't working, but It sounded like it was just recently damaged and the owner was looking into getting it fixed/ replaced. I would definitely stay here again!

Relaxing & cozy

We stayed there for a week in August and it was great. Everything was as described and the host (Thomas) was very gracious, helpful and friendly! We will definitely return if our situation allows us to! It was perfect for our family of four. Perham is only a few miles away as is Dent and Vergas so there are many restaurants and grocery stores within driving distance. Little MacDonald is a great little lake. We aren’t fishermen but we heard a lot about the good walleye fishing there. Overall it was a great experience.

My name is Tom and my honey's name is Isabel. We will make sure your stay at the lake makes you want to come back! I encourage you to look at my reviews both here and on AirBnB!!!
I do this to have fun and enjoy allowing others to enjoy our little slice of heaven.
Fun Haters and Drama Makers, please stay away! lol. Please respect us and our home so we can continue doing this and allow others to enjoy it too. :-)

Why they chose this property

There are many places to experience and things to do on the property. Large, Beautiful and Private are common comments made about my home and the property. It's a fraction of the price to experience one of the nicest Lake Homes in the area. It was built by "Tuffy Nelson" who was founder of Perham, Mn's, Tuffy's Dog Food. With Gold Plated/Ivory faucets, Tigerwood floors, deck and dock and incredible woodwork throughout, you will see it is a "One of a Kind Executive Property".

Alton, an English Setter, Tri Colored Belton, Ryman Old Hemlock...is a friendly, puppy minded, boujee hunting dog and has been a popular puppy as he was 1 in July 2025. Please be pet friendly if I am here as he will be with me if I am. My honey, Isabel and I have a 2nd home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL and like to travel, fish and relax at the lake.

Small towns all around with Bars, Restaurants and Shopping. Public Access is walking distance away. The Lake is known for Excellent fishing and swimming as it is one of the cleanest in the State of Minnesota!

What makes this property unique

This is paradise to most people, and I hope you get to experience it!

If I am available to take you fishing, I will guide up to three people… I have an impressive resume of trophy Walleyes!
