CHECK-IN: We send our check in instructions out the morning of your check in typically between 9AM and 10AM here on the VRBO message stream.

CONTACTING US: You have three hosts always watching the VRBO message stream. If there are any questions or concerns please contact us via VRBO first. We live in the same mountain community of your cabin, just down the street. If you need us we can be there quickly.

DRIVING IN: The road is a county maintained gravel road the entire way until the last 1/4 mile, and then the road is a community maintained mixed paved and gravel road up to the house. Our driveway is fully paved. You have the entire house and grounds as yours except the Garage.

GETTING IN: Provided by either a LockBox or by meeting you at the door depending on what we set up with you in advance.

CONFIRMING YOUR RESERVATION : When you book with us we will ask you for an exact person count of guests, number and type of cars coming, agreement with your house rules found in the “House Rules” section of the listing, and an appropriate sign off on pets if any or that you don’t have any if that cabin does not allow pets. We ask that all these items be agreed to in the message stream at booking.

BEFORE YOU BOOK PLEASE READ : The OTHER THINGS TO NOTE section of our cabin description below.

HOST AVAILABILITY : We live in the same mountain community of your cabin, just down the street. If you need us we can be there quickly.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE -
PETS: Are only welcome if we discuss them in advance of booking your trip for our approval. We only allow Dogs. We need to know their BREED, WEIGHT (we allow typically under 50 pounds of total pet weight, but ask us if larger), AGE (No puppies) and the PET COUNT (generally we allow 1, but if they are very small maybe two). We have a PET FEE between $10/night and $35/night depending how big the pet is. We require agreement to use a PET CRATE if you ever leave them in the house. Pets are not allowed on or in beds or on furniture. We don't allow any pets when the cabin is at maximum human person count.

THE CABIN IS IN THE MOUNTAINS: The driving approach to the cabin requires that you are comfortable driving up and down small gravel roads in the woods. Our cabin is on a county maintained gravel road that is fine for all cars Spring, Summer and Fall. During winter please come prepared for driving potentially on snowy roads and be certain you can take care of yourselves and car (snowchains, or AWD, or 4x4 are the best options). In the event of a winter storm during your stay we will instruct you on where your vehicles will be placed for your safety, this may involve a short walk from that location to the cabin door. We’ve had thousands of guests

GUEST COUNT: We only permit the guest staying at the cabin on the cabin grounds or in the cabin. You can not change or add guests without notifying us for approval. We reserve the right to not approve an increasing guest count prior to the trip, and we reserve the right to stop your trip if your guest count increases without asking our permission first. We will ask you to confirm your guest count at the time of booking.

PROVIDED : Linens, Towels, fully stocked Kitchen (see photo), coffee and amenities, a bottle of wine and chocolate samples, propane for grill and all that you see pictured. We do not provide other food of any type.

WIFI - Your internet is Satellite based. That means it has a delay and is NOT ideal for 2 way or streaming communication such ZOOM or Netflix. During a storm the weather can cloud out the connection and your WiFi may degrade. We have had guests work just fine keeping up with email for example, but we point this out as there are no buried cables or fiber on our remote properties and weather can be an issue. So if its a huge requirement to stream video then we may not be the cabin for you.

CABIN LICENSE: We are providing you a License to use our Cabin similar to that of renting a car, as a licensee you are bound to the cabin rules at all times, and you forgo the rights of a "lease" or "tenant". Violations of our cabin rules can result in your immediate removal from our cabin, by renting our cabin you agree to these terms. If you'd like a full copy of the license please let us know in advance and one will be provided to you.

This was our second stay at the Secret Shack and we can’t say enough good things. Chris is an amazing host and everything was better than expected. Many upgrades since our last stay including new furniture, appliances, and a gas fireplace were fantastic. The view is amazing and so cool to wake up to in the master bedroom. Plenty of towels and the bed linens are super comfortable. The hot tub is a nice touch as many smaller properties lack this. We’d give more stars if we could and would love to visit again!

Gorgeous View

The stay was relaxing and tucked away up on the top of the mountain. Everything we needed to cook and we enjoyed the warm welcome with a bottle of wine & chocolate. The deck was my favorite part, plenty of room and comfortable patio furniture, our puppy loved the plush woods and the small trail to a picnic area. You definitely need a vehicle to climb ruff terrain, steep hills, and sharp turns. Highly recommend for a weekend getaway, thank you Matt and Chris!

The road to the cabin is so steep when it rains you cannot access the cabin. When I tried to walk up the road I could barely do it without slipping. Do yourself a favor find another cabin. I am an engineer who designs pavement sections for roads. That road is too steep for asphalt should have stayed a gravel road.

Great Getaway

This cozy cabin nestled in the woods provided a perfect escape from city life. The rustic charm, with its fireplace, created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The kitchen was well-equipped. The highlight was definitely the deck, where we spent evenings stargazing and enjoying the peaceful sounds of nature

A fun get away to Blowing Rock

We had such an enjoyable stay! The cabin feels like a private mountain retreat just minutes away from Blowing Rock. We loved spending time on the deck, taking in the beautiful views and relaxing in the hot tub, which also offers fantastic scenery. Cozying up in the den by the gas logs was another highlight of our visit. Everything matched the listing perfectly, and we found all the amenities we needed. Be sure to read the "Welcome Book" since it contains a wealth of helpful information. We're already planning our return visit!

The Secret Shack

The 4 of us girls (2 paramedics, an RN, and an accountant) escaped for a weekend getaway at The Secret Shack. We laughed so much and really got to unwind. The place was spotless, fantastic views, the directions to the place were spot on, and the property owners were wonderful! We plan to stay again at The Secret Shack soon!

The Secret Shack - Blowing Rock

We had a wonderful time in this charming cabin. It was very well appointed and had everything we needed. It is right off 321 just south of Blowing Rock. The view was spectacular - we faced west and could see several peaks, including Grandfather Mountain. Same view from the Living Room, Master Bedroom and Hot Tub. The drive from the main road up to the cabin includes gravel roads so I was glad we brought the SUV. Will gladly stay there again.

Can’t wait to go back!

The Secret Shack was the perfect spot to disconnect for our anniversary trip. We spent the day hiking at Linville Falls so coming back to the beautiful mountain view and coziness of the fireplace was just what we needed. Waking up to the sunrise view of the mountains from the master bedroom bed is amazing! It was clean, plenty of towels, comfortable bedding and the instructions for everything were very easy to follow. We will be back!

4th of July Vacation Looking over the Blue Ridge Mountains

The cabin was lovely, especially the bay window in the master bedroom which looks out over the blue ridge mountains. Even in summer when the trees are full of foliage, the view is fantastic. We had everything we needed for our stay. The only cons were that the internet really des not work at all (don't expect to be able to check the web or stream movies at all) and the drive from the main highway is a little intimidating on first arrival.

Perfect Getaway

I needed to get away from the hassle of everyday life and this house was perfect. The location was excellent. Just five minutes from Blowing Rock. I traveled into town several times as there is much to do there. It was also close to lots of hiking trails which I did as well. It was very clean and exactly as described. The view was phenomenal. The road getting to the house was steep but no problem during the summer. Might be a little tricky if there is some snow and ice on the ground. Also, it rained everyday and that caused the TV and internet to go down. Make sure to bring a couple good books. Overall, I was very satisfied and highly recommend.

Beautiful Property

We had an amazing time at the Secret Shack. We ŵere able to make it in before a snow storm, and enjoyed being “stuck” in the house. The road up the mountain was amazing, but not for the faint of heart. We had great communication with the property owners and they were very helpful, keeping us up to date with the driving conditions on the mountain and surrounding roads. There were only a few things we didn’t love. The drive way for the house next door runs about 10 feet from the kitchen window and there are very few curtains, we felt as though someone could be watching us, but I’m sure no one was. I also wished the hot tub was closer to the door of the cabin. It wasn’t fun walking up the stairs dripping wet when it was in the single digits, but I persevered. It was amazing, beautiful, and worth every penny. And Incase anyone was wondering, it takes a wet beard about 30 seconds to form ice when you’re in a hot tub and it’s 14 degrees out side. I would stay here again without question.
