The Cottage at Locavore Farm is simple luxury at its best. The peaceful prairie setting, cozy cottage, and thoughtful farm-to-table experience made our stay feel both special and wonderfully relaxing. Dinner was magical—the stars, the delicious food, the music, and the warm company of the hosts and fellow guests made it an unforgettable evening. We left refreshed and can’t wait to return.
Stayed overnight for a Dinner event on the property. The property is very charming and the property owners are great people. We would absolutely stay again!
Absolutely wonderful experience on a beautiful property with the most hospitable hosts. The cottage is perfect - clean and comfortable, we felt at home right away. We will be back for stays, and events, for many years to come. Thank you so much!
We had the most wonderful time! We arrived during the Thursday dinner and could drop our bags off and walk over for dinner and drinks. We then relaxed outside watching fireflies. My two boys were excited to see the animals and had a wonderful time feeding them and petting them. The house is so charming and exactly the right size. We will definitely be back!
The cottage was absolutely perfect down to every last detail. It's appropriately furnished in what I would call upscale farmhouse style. Everything is done with good taste, creativity and style. It's new and clean, with every amenity you can think of provided to you.
Wonderful stay in the cottage on a beautiful farm with very gracious hosts, Chris and Rachael. We received a warm welcome and tour of the house and farm upon arrival. The house was clean and comfortable, and had everything we needed (sheets, coffee, towels). They brought us rods to fish. The cats and animals were a nightlight with the kid. Lovely to wake up each day and walk around the farm. Highlight was staying for the Thursday dinner. Thank you so much!
Relaxing getaway from fast paced urban life! No TV No WiFi just good people, adorable animals, and prosperous land! Eggs picked fresh from the coop with vegetables from the garden And Thursday Harvest Hangout was dinner with family, friends, locals, visitors and live entertainment! Rachel and her husband Chris were incredibly hospitable and refreshingly down to earth!Highly recommended!
We enjoyed the cottage for two perfect days and nights on Mother's Day weekend with the bonus of a farm-to-table dinner and lovely music in the pasture under a beautiful clear sky.
There is magic happening on this idyllic family farm:
1. Sunset began with a golden glow and lasted a full three hours. I credit the 360-degree horizon and big sky.
2. Were the roosters respectful with crowing times or were we oblivious to their crows because we were having the purest sleep?
3. Breakfast was harvested all within fifty feet of our door; eggs from the chicken coop and spinach, tarragon and green garlic from the garden. All six of us ate at table together with the front door open to the view of sunshine on the golden pasture.
All was made possible by a delightful, welcoming host family and their charming farmyard animals. We wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Locavore Farm to enjoy the company of the human, donkey, cow, pig, chicken, sheep, doggie and kitty residents, and to be inspired by an education on regenerative farming and permaculture food production. Visit, relax, slow down, and feel true peaceful connection.
We had the most amazing stay at this property while getting ready for our wedding, and we truly couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place! The property was so cozy, welcoming, and peaceful, which made getting ready on such an important day feel relaxed and special. One of our favorite parts was getting to meet Nacho the donkey and all of the other farm animals. They added such a fun and unique charm to the property and made our stay even more memorable. The property itself was beautiful, and it was the perfect setting for our wedding morning and getting ready with our family and bridal party. We absolutely loved our time here and would happily stay again. Thank you for making such an important part of our wedding weekend so special!
What an amazing stay! My husband and I visited Locavore Cottage for our anniversary with friends joining us for the Dine on the Land dinner series which was fantastic!Just one hour from Chicago, this is more than a stay, it’s a unique experience to slow down, unwind, and relax into a gentler lifestyle. The property itself is just beautiful and expansive. You can wander the flower gardens, explore the vegetables growing, or stroll through the walking path around the pond. We saw critters big and small - there are goats, donkeys, kittens and chickens on the property. If you have little ones, this is the perfect place to explore! Also, the sunrises and sunsets are unmatched and truly magical. The cottage itself balances modern comforts with quaint charm that eases you into a slower pace. We found everything we needed when cooking, had plenty of room in the fridge, the beds were so comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious enough for all four of us.I highly recommend booking the cottage for a Dine on the Land dinner as we did. There was live music, great wine, and the food was top notch! We made new friends that night, picked up souvenirs in the gift shop, and learned more about the story of Locavore Farm. All of which is made possible by Rachael and Chris. You could not ask for better hosts! We felt welcomed like family as soon as we arrived and got to know each other throughout our stay. We are still talking about our magical weekend and planning another visit next year!
My mom and 2 boys under the age of 5 stayed for 2 nights. The boys had so much fun with the farm animals and exploring the property. Rachael made our stay extra special with a greeting package at the cottage with 2 kids fishing poles. We caught a handful of bluegill in the pond which added to the excitement. We checked in before Thursday night hang / dinner and the food was amazing. The cottage was recently renovated and it’s absolutely perfect. Would totally recommend and we will definitely be back!

Thank you so much for your kind review. I’m so happy you all had such a wonderful time.
Watching you soak in the farm — resting in the simplicity of it all, walking, fishing, petting kittens, and simply sitting awhile — was such a beautiful reminder that living intentionally connected to nature really is one of the secrets to slowing down and reviving the heart.
Your boys won’t forget the time you shared with them here. What a gift you gave them. You are such a wonderful mom.
This farmstay is a delight: the owners are welcoming and very warm, keen to make you comfortable and relaxed in enjoying their property. Wonderful, imaginative, fresh food was served as well as happy times walking the property and visiting with the animals. Owners are working hard - and effectively - on a regenerative program of husbandry and generation of food that us of the film “Best Little Farm”. Truly “Best” farm stay in Illinois! Location is great for Quilt Barn tours and Kankakee Riverfront as well.
